Hi guys, i am casual D5200 shooter, thinking to upgrade to FF system.
Now considering to switch to sony mirrorless system or Nikon FF.
i want to know is D810 worth the upgrade? the price is quite steep tho..
My mainly shooting landscape, portrait, travel vlog (used to work with 1080 60p), and thinking to step in wedding
photo in near future.

1st question, are you making any money with photography? Or is it just a hobby?

2nd question, are you willing to spend the extra amount (Average RM 2 - 4k) on the glass you will need to purchase?

Sony M/less and Nikon FX has 1 same point - they are expensive wink.gif

My honest opinion is that IF you are not financially capable of spending on the gear, just remain on the current one and improve the quality of the photos thumbup.gif

Bro, thanks for comment, i take photo and video for hobby for sure.
I understand the cost for switching over. Thats why i am asking,
In your opinion, the performance for Nikon FF like D750, D810, if compare to Sony FF, any advantages
that worth the steep price?

I can't comment much on FX as I have no experience on it myself, but I do know that Nikon FX cameras are bigger than D5200 tongue.gif

For an average joe like me, I wouldn't bother about it at all as I don't print money at home laugh.gif I will continue to shoot on DX and get more photo jobs until I can afford to upgrade to FX comfortably thumbup.gif

Performance wise, DX and FX are different but according to whatyou shoot as well...since you're shooting mainly landscape and portrait, you don't need a FX DSLR to produce nice quality pictures thumbup.gif

i not sure what to input since i never use camera for work anyway. but then since you mentioned TRAVEL VLOG... getting from D5200 to FX is kinda heavy too

i not sure you will want to do it lol.... i personally use D800 and i can say it is heavy after 2 hours carry onward.
(okay i am weak and never go any sport and gym lol whistling.gif , 60 kg and 175cm high)

i saw your previous comment in Sony subforum...

oh yeah another thing need to consider is Optical Viewfinder (VF) and Digital VF for long hour battery consuming
(for trips issue, only able charge battery after back to hotel in night)

actually you still can use DX lens on FX body but cropped portion of course, i rarely (actually never see) people in here use DX lens on FX body... most of the poeple here i see is use FX lens on DX body then slowly convert to FX body. (which means invest in lens then body later)

by the way do you even heard Nikon DF? brows.gif

i've check D5200, it is 24MP camera and i think quite decent what...why you want to change?? sweat.gif

oh yeah i think get D750 maybe better choice. you can compare the spec for that. annndddd megapixels issue... you upload digital photos in facebook i think use D70s also same la. D70s 6mp only biggrin.gif

also maybe you can scout some 2nd hand FF body camera too if price is killing you

Hi there!

Since you are taking this as an hobbyist, I will recommend you to stay with DX first. Personally, I don't really think you need that jump yet. As you mentioned VLOG, D5200 is more capable and has a bigger advantage here with the flip screen as you can see yourself as you do the VLOG. No one can do VLOG well without looking at the screen and D5200 can perform well here. Besides, assuming you do landscape and portraits often here, you must already have some DX lenses lying around. smile.gif

So, here is my amateur advice, stay with DX first, get a speedlight (a must for wedding). Train yourself with DX + speedlight well. Then when you are financially capable (capable of buying FF with your photography earnings), then you jump FF for better dynamic range and FF crop sensor. Everything is expensive in FF. DX is cheap and lighter too. I understand this well because I own both D5300 and D750. biggrin.gif
