Thanks for the super valuable info bro! I am actually testing all modes and settings right now, but a bit like on reverse. That's just how I learn new things at my age now. smile.gif

hi i got a nikon p600. when i set the shutter speed to be short like 1/400 or 1/800 or shorter, the image become black. Is this normal or my camera got problem. i use the shutter priority menu
*
It is normal if you're in a dark environment because no light managed to get into the sensor on fast shutter speed but it wouldn't be normal if you are shooting outdoor during broad daylight.

yes, using auto the image fine ...

im thinking maybe the sensor got prob with short shutter speed. want to try to shoot flying bird
*
If it is fine with auto then it's definitely your setting, of your shooting birds outdoor during day time, 800/1 seconds also should be ok with iso 100 smile.gif

hi guys, fiance and I will be heading to Europe for 3 weeks and we're bringing our Nikon J1 (with 10-30 & 30-110mm lenses + 1 tripod).

1. Currently using a 8gb class4 sd card, any advice if we should be using a larger storage sd card and extra batteries?

2. I'd bring both lenses, but worried those pickpocket might curi from my bag when busy jalan or worse get surrounded by those groups 'beggar kids' ><" Any advice on how to protect from theft/pickpocket?

Thanks in advance guys, cheers

QUOTE(gerald7 @ Apr 20 2015, 08:36 AM)
3 weeks is a looong time, but if your shooting jpg. should not be a problem for 8GB. but I would advice getting a extra memory cards. because they are dirt cheap. throw in one or two 16GBs and you should be good to go. Normally I would always buy 1 extra battery handy. But if your confident w/ the J1, why not.

I would say awareness would be your best tool against pick pockets. Id be more worried about wallets and passports tho...
*
Totally agree with you bro smile.gif awareness is the most important aspect thumbup.gif

But I would recommend bringing and extra battery, because the J1's battery isn't really super heavy duty so bringing along an extra battery is definitely not a bad idea smile.gif

want an opinion
is the D3200 good with the 18-55mm VR lens or the 18-105mm?
and VR2 is faster auto focus..right?
*
IMHO, kit lens are normally not super fast on AF but usable if you just picked up photography, as for the focal length, having 18-105 is always better than having 18-55 due to the extra reach you can get on the 105mm smile.gif

As for VR vs VR2, the only difference is just the VR2 is collapseable making it more compact than VR, the optics has no difference according to spec sheet icon_rolleyes.gif

Mirrorless's main benefits is their weight, but bear in mind that mirrorless's lenses are also quite limited (for Nikon) and they are more expensive as well sweat.gif

Hope that helps mate wink.gif

QUOTE(PF T.J. @ May 26 2015, 11:53 AM)
I have the 105mm F2.8 VR2, its awesome for macro, but not really so for portraits although the focal length is good hmm.gif
This is because the 105mm is not that sharp at F2.8 for commercial work, at least for me la laugh.gif Its not very fast either, thus more suitable for posed shots only..

I do not have a 85mm F1.8, but I use a Fujifilm 56mm F1.2 (almost same focal length) as my secondary camera during weddings. This one is awesome for portraits and posed shots; not so for candids. Most 85mm lens are quite sharp wide open  thumbup.gif

Unless if you are planning to shoot macro (e.g. photo of wedding rings etc.) too, the 85mm F1.8 would be the better pick. Especially so if you are on DX
*
Awesome feedback bro biggrin.gif thank you for sharing, the main thing that is stopping me from the 105mm is the fact that it is a macro lens and also the price as well sad.gif Let's see if there is any other sifu that can chip in their opinion biggrin.gif

Another point to consider is the focus speed; For portrait, you can set the focus limit switch to limit the focus distance, but it's still slow for action. Usable but really depends on how you utilize it accordingly.

One more point to take note is the maximum aperture will change as you focus closer (into macro range). E.g. You set to f/2.8, and you go nearer to your subject and you may notice the maximum aperture changed to f/3 or smaller. It can be a problem if you're shooting in manual mode as the ISO or shutter speed still maintains and your exposure will be different.
*
Thank you for the feedback too mate biggrin.gif but the above comments is for the 105mm Micro right?

i have 85mm 1.8g w/ d5100
i wouldnt recommend it for indoor as it would be bit tight
as for event it was a bit slow focusing(in dark)
it is sharp lens even wide open
i buy it mainly for portrait thumbup.gif
feel free to check my flickr sweat.gif

i have 85 1.8G, i use it for weddings and portraits. Sharp, but a little slow on AF, but sufficiently fast enuf for most excpet sports? and i like that lens alot cz of it's nice bokeh as well. u could consider sigma 85 1.4, which has even better bokehhhh , but have nt tried.
*
That's some good feedback there my friend, will definitely keep that in mind thumbup.gif as for the focusing speed, the slow would not be as slow as kit lens would it?

QUOTE(Andy214 @ May 26 2015, 11:31 PM)
You're welcome mate and yes, it's for the 105mm Micro

yup.. quite similar price.. its from my friend.. hehe..

i just have a concern on FX lenses which will be more exp than DX.. other than this, what do you guys think? should i go with 750 or 7100?
*
FX lenses will defintiely be more expensive than DX, like the pricing between 17-55mm (RM 4.5k+-) and 24-70mm (RM 6.2k+-) it also depends on what you are looking into gaining in phototgraphy, if you can make a living out of it then definitely the D750 but if you're just a freelance/hobbyist then D7100 biggrin.gif

p/s: Unless you're quite financially stable aka RICH then you go for D750 la thumbup.gif

hahaha.. im so not into professional photography yet.. more likely for hobby.. can 7100 support towards wedding photoshoot? haha.. maybe once i found the gold there then only switch to FX..
*
Then I would recommend D7100 solely due to the price factor as DX is more affordable and it produces really good photos if used properly smile.gif

what I mean is at the lens got "Auto focus" on or manual. Do we should put as on or as manual everytime need adjust on the lens?
*
QUOTE(Agito666 @ Jun 3 2015, 12:02 PM)
i use auto all the time, some people like manual. kit lens normally is auto focus, you can adjust it manually even it is auto on....
*
I do believe the D3200 kit lens will be 18-55mm VR1 which doesn't have manual overried, so turning the focus ring when auto focus is on might break your auto focus motor shakehead.gif

Hi all, I already locked my target to get a Nikon D5500 with 18140 lens. May I ask most where does most expert here shop for Nikon camera which offer best service and price?
*
Your question is kinda vague sweat.gif because there's not best in these kinda things smile.gif if service good then price will be like retail price, if you want cheap price then will be less impressive service biggrin.gif

If you got the cash, D7200 but if you want a more economical option then D7100 but ultimately it goes down to your usage smile.gif
