Call Celcom CS and ask them to reset the network port on THEIR side. And you will get 4G.

Need some clarification;

You guys, when you say 4G/LTE, do you actually get '4G' or 'LTE' showing on the top status bar and Settings > Cellular? I have no idea how Malaysian telcos classify things. In Singapore (where I live/work) 4G and LTE are the same. Some telcos display '4G' and some display 'LTE', but both are the same performance.

How does it work here? Is it something like the U.S where you get both 4G and LTE on the same network (U.S 4G is actually 3.5G performance, while their LTE is true 4G ... at least for AT&T) or is it just different wording depending on the telco/carrier, like in S'pore?

Just curious because I have a Celcom Xpax prepaid for when I come back to J.B to visit my mum on weekends, and it shows '4G' in the statusbar. Needed to call to activate that, btw. Tried a couple of times and the operator buat-bodoh saying already activate but my area no coverage, so the third time I went to the main Celcom store in J.B town center and called the operator from my phone, telling them I was in the middle of a 4G area and was still getting 3G only. It worked. They opened some "report" (probably bullsh*t) and I got 4G within a couple of hours.

^ Is that true? I thought it depended on the carrier firmware - the updates that you get once in a while when you go to Settings > General > About.

My iPhone 6 is an Australian set. Says 4G both on my Singapore carrier and Celcom. My gf is on the same carrier as me and her iPhone 5s (Singapore set) also says 4G. Another collegue's iPhone 6 (also Singapore set) says LTE, but he's using a different telco from my gf and me.

Yezz, it depends on carrier itself. DiGi and Maxis shows LTE, Celcom shows 4G.

Like mentioned, its just a "Display Name". Both 4G and LTE are the of the same network and spectrum. It is up to your carrier what it wants to display on your phone. You can even customize it to display your own name but then your phones need to be jailbreaked.

There would be an announcement in the next 6 months or so as traditionally iPhones are announced in September. If I were you at this stage I would wait, even of you don't buy the new ones., the older ones get a slight price reduction

I am with DiGi and the display on my iPhone comes up as "LTE", when available. I've never seen "4G" on a DiGi network, although 3G is quite common! laugh.gif

It's already mid-March and if you can wait, September's when the new iPhones are launched. With their Malaysian debut usually happening a month or two after that! rclxms.gif

Depends. If you think it will be a huge upgrade to change phones now, better pull the trigger... With GST Coming soon and the RM.

Waiting for the September iPhones is a better choice if your current phone is fine. However, keep in mind that the Malaysian launch is much later, plus the initial low stocks... Might be a while before you can get the color and capacity you want.
