majority ssd will be fit on any lappy. performance more or less the same. if u wanna buy samsung just go for PRO instead EVO.

i'm using 32GB Samsung EVO on S3. cool2.gif my ssd is bundle with GPU together so no much choice.

Hi everyone here, i need some suggestions, noobie here...
Im using lenovo y510p, im looking forward to add 1 ssd into my laptop.
It now has 1tb hdd on the board and a m.2(ngff) slot,
1) If i buy a normal 2.5" ssd to replace the hdd inside, n shift the hdd to my ultrabay (with the purchase of hdd caddy), will the warranty get voided? do i have  to reformat my windows if i were to use the ssd as my windows boot up drive?
2) if i buy a m.2(ngff) ssd n slot it in, could it be the windows boot up drive or only act as a storage drive?

Budget is kinda limited, i saw m.2(ngff) ssd is so expensive, it is like 3x the price of normal 2.5' ssd sad.gif

*extra question, when i just starting up my windows 8.1 laptop (or sometimes randomly), the disk usage get 100% for like 5-10minutes, why is it like this? is it that i torrent too much n hurt the hdd? sad.gif
*
1) for warranty claims, just put stock parts back in their original places. honestly when i modify my laptops, i keep stock parts untouched. i then buy new parts (ssd, hdd, ram, wifi card, etc.) and replace them.

2) usually it can be a boot drive, but you should wait for a more definitive answer from other y510p owners.

if you still used the stock os with stock bloatwares, that might be the case. normally bloatwares will add services in the background and they might add more reads/writes to hdd. also know that even a plain, non-optimized os can cause 100% usage of hdd. you should do some system optimizations, and throw away bloatwares that you don't use. the better way is to do a fresh os install and build your system up from scratch.

yes, it's better to avoid potential issues like mixing up boot orders of your computer.

first back up your stuff first before you do anything else.

then use disk management to do it. alternatively at administrative command prompt run diskpart, select disk that you wanna make changes (sel disk x, where x is a number), and issue the command clean.

there are plenty of tutorials if you googled about it smile.gif

it's very rare (like none) to see a user with that ssd. it's better you checked online user comments from other sources about it before purchase, particularly local warranty.

Never use torrent on SSD. Read/Write not worth to spend on that usage. Use HDD for torrenting.

If low on budget, follow my style. Buy 2.5" SSD and put inside and swap the 1TB to caddy. As for warranty you have to refer back to Lenovo. Not sure they honor the warranty or not if you DIY.

PS. I'm a Lenovo Z400T user, there are void warranty sticker on it if you DIY. So you have to ask Lenovo service center.

Smartphone won't go faster or smooth by adding better SDCard.

ROM and the eMMc are main culprit.

lol! we can see how patient we were in those days, compared to now, after having ssds biggrin.gif

kingston, despite their previous fiasco of 'bait and switch', has released in the market their pci-e 2.0 x4 m.2 ssd, hyperx predator, featuring marvell's controller and toshiba toggle nand (i don't think they will switch this combo. this is a premium stuff after all)

if you cannot find xp941, this one is a good option. it's said the overheating issues of its controller is not a serious concern even without heat sink. it's much better than xp941.

normally it's better to use the software published by manufacturers. to get a general idea of health status, you can try crystal disk info, or hdd guardian. both are based on smart information.
