Can feel improvement in speed on old laptop? Run hot?

I'm new to SSD and first time buying one, should I go for Liteon 900s 256gb or Samsung 850 evo 250gb, 850 has many good reviews all over the net like Amazon, while 900s seems very popular here plus it's cheaper 

update: samsung magician 4.6 is out, but you cannot get it now for some reasons :/

Magician version 4.6 features a number of improvements over version 4.5:

edit: it's up applied the firmware update (only for sata version, not msata version), then the advanced performance feature will appear. when you run the advanced performance feature, it's best to leave the machine alone. everything will become slow during the optimization process.

it will take some time to complete.

to unaffected models, samsung magician 4.6 is just software version update, nothing important. to 840 evo, there is a new firmware update for sata version (not msata version), and the advanced performance tab.

wow that's really weird. i have no experience with ssdlife pro, i'm not sure what's wrong.

ssd has no movable parts. it should be good.
no idea about 860 pro/evo. (no announcement from samsung yet) i just know there will be 4-tb 850 series some time this year.

not an expert but i will list out key differences between the two (that i know of):
1. crucial m550
- an old drive; (it's listed as legacy at crucial website); old doesn't mean bad, as m550 256gb has 0% return rate based on hardware.fr's survey (850evo 250gb has 0.18%. still low, but not as low as 0); slower (slightly)
- mlc nand flash;
- performance and enterprise-class drive;
- hardware encryption;
- power loss protection;
- 72tb tbw;
- 3-year warranty.

2. samsung 850 evo
- new drive; faster;
- tlc 3d-nand;
- free rapid mode using ram-based caching; this is ultra fast as long as the data access doesn't exceed allocated ram capacity;
- hardware encryption;
- 75tb tbw;
- 5-year warranty.

in short, both are good. i will pick m550 because of its features (this is personal preference and i know my work loads; nothing to do with anything). however for you, i think it's better for you to pick samsung 850 evo because of longer warranty.

In that case, i might as well go for samsung Evo 256GB. Thank you

I already have the MX200 model so I won't be getting it. Tempted by the 64 GB MicroSD for only ~RM 80 though.
