Hi sifus. I’m a bit noob regarding these internet/network stuff. I’ve read the threads here regarding public/private IP. Why change from private to public in the first place? What are its advantages? Sorry if it’s a noob question.
*
For normal surfing/streaming/downloading, it doesn't make any difference whether public or private IP. But if you need to host a home server to access from outside, then public IP is needed.

QUOTE(koji188 @ Jul 26 2022, 10:22 PM)
I’m asking also because I’m getting my Maxis 500mbps installed in 2 days time and my house is quite reliant on Apple HomeKit. I have more than 20+ smart home lights/switches etc. So im wondering if private/public IP has any effect on it. Currently my house is running on Digi 150 infinite with a TPlink mesh system.
*
Since yu can run all those on Digi infinite, there is no problem running on Maxis. Digi infinite also on private IP.

Guess what, this is the link Maxis support given to me to perform the test. LOL.
I did all sort of tests lar before. Be in speedtest from Umobile, Maxis themselves one or unifi one. All given the same result (of course +-a bit).
Their technician was even came to my house to update the router firmware but ended up the same.
*
Did the TM technician also come to check on infra? Since still cant solve, you have to report to MCMC to get them to work.

It's a known tactic to get you back to Unifi. TM be like "our Unifi is faster compare to the other ISP". Unless the HSBB is manage by separate entity, this problem will persist.

QUOTE(PRSXFENG @ Sep 7 2022, 11:32 AM)
As mentioned above,
this is TM's sly tactics
It's a known secret that
For their own customers, they set the cap to exactly or over the subscribed plan
For other ISPs riding on their infra, they set the cap ever so slightly lower to make you think Unifi is better as they can offer the true 300Mbps
and make you hate Maxis or the other isps riding on their infra for being slower.

I'm using Maxis fibre on Maxis own infra, I get 38Mbps from 30Mbps plan.
A relative of mine is using Maxis fibre on TM infra, 28Mbps max, never higher.

Not sure how this info will help but I suppose you can try using this to hold TM (and Maxis) accountable.
*
They won't do anything. It's "over" the 90% subscribe speed, and Maxis has no control to the infra.

Anyone tried to resubscribe Maxis fiber?
My current Maxis Fibre contract is ending soon and Maxis offered me a new WiFi 6 router/modem but in return have to tie to contract for another 2 years.
Recently saw there are some promotion for maxis fibre new subscription. So I thought of end the existing contract and get a new subscription.
My agent told me he able to do it but have to change port.
Just wonder is there any cons from doing this?
*
If your area uses TM infra, you better not do this. TM has a cooling period when you terminate the line, and chances are that someone will take over the port.
Not to mention the hassle for Maxis to get TM technician to come during reinstallation.

My agent already checked for me. Still got port so I assume not using my existing port. If I maintain my existing port until new port is connected, I should be safe right? Not sure am I allow to do that or not.
Any method to check whether my currently port uses TM infra or not? Previously I'm using unifi, transfer to maxis when TM increase my monthly premium due to the Bonanza offer has expired (I didn't get perpetual offer).
*
Transfer from Unifi then confirm it's TM infra. Anything major involving the BTU, cabling and DP, Maxis need to get TM technician to come over. This part the agent really cannot help, it is between the 2 companies.

Hi all, had anyone encounter if I apply Maxis and later on I decided not to proceed (accept counter offer by Unifi) there will be a cancellation fee RM200? They provided me the TR (Transfer Request) code.
*
If already set appointment for installation, then will kena cancellation fee if you do not proceed. If still in the early stage, and you get counter offer from Unifi, then TM will reject the port out request and no cancellation fee will be impose. Unless things change recently.

Hi guys, for the mobile plan bundled with maxis family plan has unlimited quota/speed or is there some FUP in the T&C?
Also, if I moved to Maxis Fiber but still got remaining 1 year contract for Unifi, does Maxis help to waive the penalty?
*
Maxis cannot help to waive the penalty. Unifi penalty is no joke, for you have to pay all the remaining months.

Hi just switched to maxis fiber from unifi recently found out that sometimes fb pic/video load very slow/take time which doesnt happen on unifi and also the torrent speeds during day time is very bad
I have asked also sign up for the samsung 65" rm50 tv but yet to receive can i cancel the plan now? any cooling off period or i need to pay penalty?
*
Using your own router or Maxis router? The Maxis fibre is contracted for 2 years same like Unifi. As for the TV you have to check whether can cancel or not.

using maxis router and my own mesh no cooling off period? gg then?
*
Where got cooling period. Even Unifi also the same. Once sign up, the fibre contract for 24 months. What mesh are you using, if the mesh can configure as router, try to swap it as main router and see if still encounter the same problem.
Also, can always lodge report if speed is not up to par.

QUOTE(n8210 @ Oct 29 2022, 09:18 PM)
I was using Maxis in 2020, but terminated it and switched to Unifi in Oct 2020. However, even after receiving my first Unifi bill, Maxis was still sending me another last bill.

I told Maxis local shopping mall branch, when I request to jump ship, I had to contact Maxis and settle everything before getting their consent for the switch. So I did exactly that, and therefore they release my account and that is how I managed to sign up with Unifi. So why after the cancellation I get another bill?

After few working days, the branch whatsapp me saying all they can do is reduce the total by RM60. But why should I pay the balance, whatever the amount be, since it is practically impossible to subscribe to both maxis and unifi at the same time (in my case).

Tried contact Maxis HQ via customer service but cannot get hold of anyone. Anyone can provide some advice? I have unifi bill to show Maxis, both charging me for the same period!
*
IIRC, the day you request to jump ship, you will pay the latest available bill for Maxis to release your line. In a few days or max 2 weeks time, Unifi will come and do the installation. So while waiting for Unifi to be ready, your Maxis fibre line is still active. The line will only terminate officially few days after Unifi is running. Therefore technically you can run both Maxis and Unifi for the first few days or even up to a week.
From the day you made request to Maxis and pay the bill, your internet still run until it is terminated weeks later. Hence you have the final bill to pay. As for my experience switch out from Unifi, TM charges one month advance. Any remaining balance will be refunded through cheque.

It's the same for telco postpaid line, if you switch out there will always be a final bill.
Hope my explanation helps.

QUOTE(PRSXFENG @ Dec 15 2022, 05:06 PM)
So Maxis just offered us a plan to get us back into contract
and its tempting
was on Hotlink Postpaid Fibre 99
RM99 per month for
20gb sim (10gb + 10gb YT)
30Mbps Fibre

now offered 2 plans to recontract for 12 months
"from" RM49 a month for
Hotlink Postpaid 40 (20GB)
30Mbps Fibre

OR
2x Hotlink Postpaid 40 (20GB)
100Mbps Fibre
for RM89 monthly
+ 2 Kaon mesh wifi units

I will have to ask if the price is perma or will it shoot up after 12 months
or some weird "rebate" thing

Maxis knows exactly what they're doing
as TIME Fibre is coming to my area soon and the contract just expired last month

Would this be a good plan or if there's something I should know about?

EDIT: I should add that my area is Maxis Own Infra, not using TM's line
*
Regardless, go for Time if you prioritise home fibre internet.

wow.. this offer looks really good. any good perk if swtiching from unifi from maxis?
they call me last month as my unifi contract ending soon,  and i got no time to talk to them, seems like missing some good deal
*
The said offer is only for area running Maxis own infra. No way they can offer such plan under TM's infra, hence you will get a different offer if coming from Unifi.

the xt8 is connected to the provided router.
*
Best is to connect Xt8 to ONT and configure the proper PPOE credential. Make sure to select Maxis profile and see which lan port is reserve for VOIP bridging. Then you can try to connect the Maxis router to the lan port for voip.
However through this method, some people reported that their voip is not working, so if you don't mine, not having access to VOIP, this is the best option.

Not sure about connecting a switch to it. You need the switch for wired connection I suppose?

SWU is for stay with unifi, only available for existing Unifi subs that is out of contract. I think Unifi do have winback promo for people switching from other provider.

I have completed my Unifi contract in Dec-2022.

I would like to switch to Maxis Fibre and currently I have 5 Maxis line.
I'm looking at Maxis Family Plan with Fibre (RM399 package).
Did anyone receive any better offer from switching from UNIFI to MAXIS Family Fibre Plan.

Thanks in advance for your reply.
*
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the offer is mostly for fibre only plan. 300mbps 6 months free if switch from Unifi.

Hi I just installed Maxis Fibre 100mbps.

Just want to check on the following item:

1. I'm getting 94mbps / 45mbps when I connect thru Lan cable for 100mbps. Is this acceptable speed for 100mbps? My expectation is getting 100mbps for what I paid for.

2. My Maxis Fibre doesn't come up backup Maxis 4G simcard ... I ask the installer he told me need to go Maxis to get the backup sim. Is he telling me the correct info?

Thanks in advance for the reply.
*
4g backup only available if you combine fibre with postpaid line.

Jump if public IP is a must for your usage. But I won't be surprise if one day TM stop offerring public IP to 300mbps plan and above.

I’m on 300mbps
I’m guessing they’re not offering public ip for free anymore like tm does

It's just a matter of time. TM already stop offerring public IP for 100mbps and below.

So how to opt out for current user with public IP to avoid RM10 charges?
*
Call Maxis hotline to opt out.

QUOTE(PRSXFENG @ Feb 8 2023, 11:39 PM)
Well there are still some differences like combo with mobile plan
Or peering/load/stability

To go with 1 over the other

And I thought TM has plans to eventually convert everyone to private IP?
*
I thought so. When more and more people are on 300mbps eventually they will also have public IP limitation.

QUOTE(petpenyubobo @ Feb 9 2023, 12:25 AM)
Been using them for more than 5 years without any contract renewal.
Another question, anyone noticed that now Maxis Fibre has silently throttle "upload speeds" to European/US servers?

Everytime I do a speedtest with a VPN to Europe/US, my 30Mbps will max out 90% somewhere like 28Mbps but upload speed only 2Mbps. Anyone can confirm?

This is not good.

Weird thing is if using SG VPN, the upload speed returns to symmetrical 30M just as what you subscribed.
*
Could it be their peering?

Just feels bad paying extra RM120 a year for something that's been free since the first year I used Maxis, I went from the promotion 100mbps to 300mbps and converted to family plan so Im paying quite a bit. Am kinda annoyed they couldn't exclude this from loyal customers.

Only TM will have 101 pricing for loyal customers.
