Thanks for posting this Assasin's. I like the third-party integration in the messaging hub (perhaps no need to open whatsapp and skype and FB messenger), the quick reply and almost everything. Hope all of these features can run on low end WP as well.

Let see if MS can come out with the implementation. Otherwise they would not list it as a "third party integration". Third party here means other besides MS. Right now even Android and iOS do not have this feature. If WP has it then it will become a unique selling feature. Google Hangout only integrates sms with google's own gtalk.

Sorry about that, that was my mistake. Currently it's limited to just Skype. Microsoft says it’s only going to support carrier messaging services, SMS, and Skype with this tight integration, so don’t expect to see WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger appear in the Windows 10 for phones messaging app. (Source)

I was about to get excited about the feature! Thanks for clarifying. But otherwise all other features are also good. Voice dictation, can it support other languages besides English?

I suspect it's using Cortana voice recognition, so it'll probably support whatever language Cortana supports.

I can see the design is inconsistent across the OS.
The title bar (the top portion of an app) design is vary even by Microsoft app. Just compare Phone and Outlook from the image above and you'll know what I mean.

However the other addition is of course nice. thumbup.gif

Statements from Gabe Aul :

"We discovered this morning that there was an error in the database for provisioning record data, which is required for new phones to join the Fast Ring through the Windows Insider app. The team has been working to correct it but the load on the provisioning data servers has made all operations extremely slow. To fix the issue, we are taking the service offline and updating the provisioning record data for all 5100 phone POPs. It will take approximately 2 hours for us to make the update, and validate that everything is working. This is a different service from Windows Update, so Insiders who are currently on 9941 should be able to update their phones if they are already in the Fast ring. If they are in the Slow ring they will encounter the same issue with provisioning data. We apologize for the delay on this and are working to ensure it never happens again.'

For people who cant wait to install Win10 TP please read this first

- There might be situations in which auto-upload of your Camera Roll to OneDrive may not be working. Please be sure to back up your photos especially if you need to use the Windows Phone Recovery Tool to go back to Windows Phone 8.1.

- The Office Hub has been removed from this build. You won't be able to open Word, Excel, PowerPoint or OneNote files in this build. Preview versions of the Universal Office apps will be available in the coming weeks.

- We are redoing how text messages are handled and processed by Cortana so in this build text messages cannot be read out over Bluetooth.

- After upgrade, some apps that have been installed onto a SD memory card will fail to launch. To fix this, uninstall and reinstall the apps.

- About 1% of the time, incoming phone calls may not play a ringing sound.

- Call + SMS filtering will not work after upgrade.

- For people upgrading their phone from Build 9941, there is a bug in which your phone's MMS settings will be lost after upgrade. The new Messaging app doesn't yet have the ability to re-enter these settings. You will need to use the Windows Phone Recovery Tool to go back to Windows Phone 8.1 and then upgrade to this build to get MMS working again.

- Also for people upgrading their phone from Build 9941, the tiles on your Start screen for the Camera and Photos apps may be missing or corrupt. You will have to unpin any corrupt tiles and re-pin the apps to your Start screen.

- On some phones, due to a scaling bug the dismiss button won't be visible when an alarm is triggered. To stop your phone from "alarming "just touch the arrow and swipe up on the notification and off the screen to end the alarm.

- On phones with 512MB of memory, apps can randomly crash due to an issue with memory management.

- Flight mode cannot be enabled.

- Data connections can't be disabled.

- You may need to re-pin the Phone app after upgrade.

- The Insider Hub is now included on Phone but may fail to launch on some phones.

installed to my 920, and i realized a few bugs:

- if the phone goes into standby, i cant turn it back on...pressing the power button do nothing...need to press vol down + power to restart...after doing so, it still wont turn on when it goes into standby...not sure if hard reset will solve this issue...

- cant link contacts to FB...reinstalling FB app didnt solve the issue...maybe i need to uninstall --> restart --> install...

- there are two "people" app, one is just People another is "People Legacy"...live tile is working on "People Legacy", but not the new "people" app...

The OS definitely not really ready for daily driver device but it does show the new OS...
i'm liking the new Outlook and calendar, but not the hamburger menu thingy...same goes for the round contact icons...
one thing for sure, i hate the new toggle button UI...it look out of place...

overall, i feel MS is moving away from the "modern" UI they created, somehow it feel more "android-ish"...
but the OS is still in development, and nothing is finalized...but i'm keeping my finger crossed that it will come good...

my advise

to those using WP as their primary device, DO NOT update your device to the latest W10 TP build..

its not a beta software ffs....still a 'preview' as MS calls it

different OS should have different look and feel, especially as they converge in terms of function

Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 10136 (Fast ring) now available for phones

Note :
Only offered to phone running Windows Phone 8.1, Build 10080 will have to revert to 8.1 using WPRT

What's new :
- Tons of fit and finish changes
- Improvements to Cortana
- Photos and Camera improvements
- One-handed use

Fixed issues :
- We have fixed the MMS bug in Build 10080, and you should receive MMS messages normally.
- We have fixed the issue where touch will stop responding on the Lock screen preventing you from swiping up to unlock your phone.
- We have fixed some visual glitches in Action Center when expanding/collapsing.
- We have fixed the issue where the text in the People app was too small.
- When you toggle the Wi-Fi quick action in Action Center, it now disables/enables Wi-Fi instead of taking you to the Wi-Fi Settings page. This was one of the top 5 pieces of feedback we heard from Windows Insiders.
- Your Start screen background should be scaled correctly now.
- You can add a detailed status to display on your Lock screen from apps like Outlook Calendar without having the Settings app crash.
- We also fixed the issue where a mouse cursor would appear when pressing the back button on your phone.

Known issues :

I had no Settings among other things missing or not working. Already reverted to WP8.1.1. Maybe will try again at the weekend.

Update: Apparently my mistake was to rush to work immediately after downloading the main update. Absence of WiFi choked follow-up downloads.

It still linked in this Build of 10149 but I heard soon it will no longer support. If you cannot see them linked, uninstall the Facebook app then restart the phone (funny thing is that I need to restart as I noticed the cache is still holding the uninstalled app) and reinstall using the new Blue Store. The FB Beta cannot linked with contacts in WP10 Build 10149 so far when I test.

I personally am not using this new build as I'm sporting a Lumia 720, 512MB RAM WP Phone. Too slow for me. But based on other people that has a higher end device, seems like it's fine smile.gif

Yes, this is the best Build so far and I retain it as my daily driver.
The prev all build tends to annoy me to the max that I rollback. All the prev build doesn't play nice with L930. -.-"

Build 10149 is stable enough...

Between 930 and 1520, which is more advisable for me to get now in order to utilize Windows 10?

Currently have a budget ~RM1k, still have a strong feeling to get another windows phone after my 1020 died.

I would advise for a new set of Windows Phone coming out soon, as Joe has mentioned, Continuum will need new hardware (Unless you don't care about that)

Microsoft push out a small update on the Here Drive and Maps which breaks it... sad.gif initially it was running fine...

However, do try out the new Maps (native with the Windows 10 Mobile) which supports navigation and even data from RapidKL database if you opt of public bus route... however not sure if Voice Navigation is active as yet to try...

Yeah, just wait for Windows 10 Mobile generation of phones... should be good but if price is the concern, then go for current generation phones but will be significantly cheaper when Windows 10 Mobile becomes GA.

You can download the map as offline and it should load faster not depending on the Mobile Data. Btw, which phone model you are using with Windows 10 Mobile?

I did take mine with a spin on the Maps application and it's quite interactive and responsive biggrin.gif

OneNote is not in preview in Windows 10 for Phone unlike the other Office apps.

This link should lead you straight to the OneNote page on the store (Choose to open in Store (Beta) when prompted) :

OK, upgraded to the BUILD# 10166 seamlessly from previous BUILD and it's a good stable BUILD... recommended if you still unsure if this is ready for daily driver... however as usual this is still not RTM version, so there could be glitches here and there but I see none so far in this latest one..

P/S: After the upgrade, allow some time for the Apps to be updated by itself via the Store.. you may encounter a pop up saying that this App cannot be open and required to be updated via the Store.. don't panic, leave the phone alone for it to do its job... it need some time... 30 minutes would be sufficient for my L930 this morning...

RM628 Lumia 640
RM699 Lumia 735
RM699 Lumia 925
RM755 Lumia 640 XL

since all the devices above are confirmed to receive windows 10 update later, which 1 is the best to get?

640 XL - I love the screen size but I think it's just too big to put into my pocket

735 and 925 - provide better displays. Are they really look stunning compared to IPS?

640 - safe option?

before this i have same dilemma as well

640 definitely is not a good option,i will rather buy 735 better
735 come with wireless charging, which is almost as good as 640xl with LTE but abit low in battery life compare 640xl
925 come with good camera but i scare of overheating problem base on the online review and lack of microsd expansion stop me from getting 925.

at last i choose 640xl,LTE is not necessary for me,dual sim/larger screen will fit better to my usage

Speaking as a previous owner of L925, I would advise you to skip the L925. In the future, you're going to find it's 16GB storage with no removable storage very limiting. And the S4 Plus CPU is getting really really old.

Before I owned the L925, I've had a L620 which had an IPS display, this is what noticed when transitioning :
IPS :
+ More accurate color production

OLED :
+ Inky black
- Color is little bit over saturated
- White colour looks yellowish

If you spend a lot of time watching movies and pictures, go for IPS. If you adore dark theme to death, go OLED.

Out of all the option, I would recommend the Lumia 640.

I agree that the 925 should be avoided. And between the 640 and 735, I personally prefer the 735 for the OLED display and more classy design. Both these model include Lumia colour profile which allows to tweak the display tone between cool and warm anyway. Recently, there was even a rumour that future iPhone may use OLED display as it's proven popular on the Apple Watch. One more thing about the 735, it has a secret notification LED that is potentially activated in Win 10. The 640 has Glance, the 735 has NFC and wireless charging. Both devices are good.

Upgraded to the new build 10166 today from WP 8.1.2.

Messaging was totally not working, till I found out it was completely blocked in my Privacy settings (so private even I can't read it doh.gif ).

Touch screen is unresponsive sometimes, phone keeps telling me to restart, and screen content is heavily corrupted when switching between certain web pages (but this is instantaneous only). App store is a bit slow, opens with a BSOD, but gets there soon after.

All else seems pretty good. Didn't need a hard reset, but may try this later anyway.

Definitely, the best build so far.

After the upgrade, let the phone settle down a while before using it.. During the days of WP 8.x there are post upgrade progress bar to migrate and install the app which is still missing in these Windows 10 Mobile BUILDs which I believe the reason for the non-responsive here and there...

Technically L1520 is a better deal since it has Glance, SD card support, better battery. And on the software side, L1520 have advantages like 5 quick actions (instead of 4) and in Windows 10, it'll have 4x4 multitasking view and adjustable keyboard.

The L1520 clearly has more features than the L930. It just comes down to whether you're OK with having a giant 6 inch phone.

Also, L1520's internal storage is 32GB, but supports external SD card up to 64GB.

I'm ok with a big phone, just want to retire my current Fonepad which I'm temp using due to my faulty L1020. So, yeah.. thanks for the tips. No news on 1520's successor e.g. 1530?

There's been some changes on the Lumia model naming convention. Microsoft have dropped the 1XXX naming convention for phablets (which was weird because L1020 wasn't a phablet) in favors XL suffix instead.

So instead of a Lumia 1530, it will now be called Lumia 940 XL. We've seen this with the Lumia 640 XL which is a successor to the Lumia 1320.

The Lumia 940 XL (codenamed Cityman) is rumored to have these specs :
- 5.7 inch 2560x1440 Quad HD display
- Snapdragon 810
- 3GB RAM
- 3300mAh battery (removable)
- 32 GB internal storage
- Micro SD card slot
- USB Type-C connector
- 20 MP Main camera + 5 MP Front camera
- Triple LED flash
- Iris scanner (So you can unlock the phone just by looking at it)
- Poly-carbonate body
- Supports the Continuum feature (see the front page of this thread for details)

If the rumors are true, then this is a monster of a phone and it'll probably cost a fortune. Expected release date is November (announcement will probably on September at IFA 2015)

updates:
1) The battery life seems to be worse after upgrading to windows 10, cant even last for a day liked previously.
2)One Note seems to be missing and can't be opened.
3)Overall, it is still very smooth and faster compared to windows 8.1

after the update to Windows 10 Mobile you need to do a hard reset so things will work better.

But a hard reset will erase everything right? I still can't open my one note files. There is something important inside. Any solutions?

It is best to do a hard reset each time there is a new Windows 10 update, this is why it is not advise to be used on a daily driver phone. do you sync your file to onedrive? if you do your notes is there, else I don't think u have much choice.

If missing, download from the Store.

If it's in the app list, try opening from there (normally we will need to re-pin the app tiles after updating to Win 10).

I have OneNote on my Win 10 device and it seems to be working, though I don't actively use the app much.

try searching the store using the keyword 'onenote' instead of 'one note'.
works for me after i cant find the onenote using the keyword 'one note'.

i also encouter this problem when trying to add additional hotmail acc.
i think it's got to do with some '2 step verification' with the hotmail/outlook acc.

my workaround was adding the secondary acc using : add account -> other account, key in your email and password.
you might need replace the usual password with the apps password (enable it through your outlook acc) provided.
yea... its quite complicated.

btw, its me only or can you guys add secondary outlook/hotmail acc (the normal way)?? rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

ya, the two things that came off as a surprise (but good one) -- battery and microSD. battery... i dun really bother much these days since we got power banks. but, it's still good coz based on what i read, Windows 10 will be the 'last' Windows. after that, it will be just patches and updates. so, possibly, as long as hardware can take it, it will be a "lasting" phone... battery usually dies after 3 years... so, a replaceable battery is a good thing.

Don't worry about updates. Microsoft have a good track record in updating their phone.
Heck even Lumia 920 which introduced in 2012 still can update to W10 mobile.
Basically all older Lumia phone entitled to update to the upcoming W10 mobile.

Features depend on hardware.
Some features like Hello Cortana, Continuum and upcoming Windows Hello (of course iris scanner required) wont be available on unsupported hardware.
Well, at least you get refreshed UI + performance upgrade. So every time major update rolled out, you fell like you own a brand new phone again.

So does Cityman doesn't mention got LTE or not.
Tell me today's flagship that doesn't have LTE.
Even Lumia 920 from 3 years ago got LTE.
Doesn't mentioned in the leaked spec doesn't mean it lacks from it.
So does all other connection that didn't mentioned like bluetooth, NFC etc doesn't means it lacks from it.
Plus all high end Snapdragon chip supports LTE.

Announcing Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview Build 10512 (Fast ring)

Note :
- Some phones might spend a long time in the post update migration experience – just let the phone sit and it should complete this migration
- Insider Hub is not yet included in the new build

IMPORTANT
If you want to hard reset after installing this build, make sure your MS account has another email account on the security info (use this link to see yours : https://account.live.com/proofs/Manage). This is because two-factor authentication for your MSA with a phone number doesn’t work in this build. If you don't, you will be stuck on the first setup process.

OK, after 24 hours on the BUILD 10512, no major issue found other than those known ones which is not a showstopper. Similar to the previous BUILD this is equal or more stable and ready for Daily Driver in my opinion.

Upgrade from BUILD 10166 was smooth and cut into half approx. 30 minutes now. Initially when I upgraded from Windows Phone 8.1 to BUILD 10166 took me 1 hour plus. This time from BUILD 10166 to 10512 is smooth and fast with no heart attack. Key word, patience...

Unfortunately, yes you still need to click on Accept for each of the file transferred from Android. I just tried moments ago by BT 4 files from my Moto G (Android L) to L930 (Win10Mobile)... Perhaps some sort of security feature they tend to retain it...

I have chosen the slower build. Couldn't find anywhere to change unlike the pc version as far as I know.

In anycase, can someone point me the link for the best way I can do rollback to windows 8.1 ? Mine is lumia 532.

Back up your data and settings before using the recovery tool as the process nukes everything except your sd card.

Unfortunately, yes you still need to click on Accept for each of the file transferred from Android. I just tried moments ago by BT 4 files from my Moto G (Android L) to L930 (Win10Mobile)... Perhaps some sort of security feature they tend to retain it...

Now that you mentioned it... I just test it, and yes; the bug exists  notworthy.gif

EDIT: Also, another bug I found is the camera, when you try to do manual controls... it just feels weird (Visually)

won't call that a bug, yeah it feel weird but the controls respond to my thumb swipe smoothly, it's more of a design choice.

Phone cannot detect to both my Win10 pc and Win8.1 laptop. I can charge fine but the phone does not appear in 'My Computer'.

I did manage to force upgrade to the 10522 (?) version by changing the slow ring to fast ring but was wondering if I should do clear installation instead.

This is just my secondary phone and I don't really need to back up any data though. I can redownload my songs from the cloud (have problem sually wehn downloading songs from cloud (OneDrive) as with every 10 that I choose to download, maybe only 5 will get though. The rest are just the title with no data in them.

Just to clarify: The 10512 Build is only accessible for the Fast Ring members smile.gif

I would recommend you try a reset first as it solves MANY problems smile.gif

So I tried to install the Waze version for Android into my L930 following the method below and the installation was easy and flawless as what they have shown. However, I was hit by the error message "Failed to configure service" haha.. initially I managed to select which country and it was spinning on the progress icon... I tot this time can already... but then perhaps after Google taking over they put in some Google service which is mandatory so it cannot work haha..

But then not a big deal, the Maps app on native Windows 10 Mobile is good enough though biggrin.gif

Yup, BUILD 10512, just very buggy for me even after a clean install. Mostly because of my phone's hardware problem (Power button and Camera button) So it's making my W10 Mobile Experience going cray cray.

Still looking forward for an upgrade tongue.gif

I was testing out the 10512 on my Lumia 535. Using it as a daily phone, so far so good. Although there are some bugs but its expected.

AFAIK, the newer build 10537 is coming soon, its said to have fixes for most of 10512 problems, and mobile hotspot can function again. No new features though.

The update did take a long time. Initially update to build 101514 & 101536.1000.
This alone take 2-3 hours. After complete only I notice need to update one more time to 101536.1004.
This is shorter, less than 1 hour.

Btw did any of you notice lag between screen wakes up and the time the passcode pin menu pop ups?
If the passcode are not required, don;t have this issue (I set mine to lock every 30 min)

Another one is the lock screen quick status seems to reset every time. Only phone and sms remains while the others (user set whatsapps etc) gone.
I'm currently using 640 XL.

yup same problem, SIM Pin doesn't show up when the phone is rebooted too, had to remove that for now.

This build is still not very smooth or perfect but can be used as daily driver.

Same problem here, though not a big issue for me since this is not affecting performance and usage.

Also I have 4 things queued in Store download and updates with error 0x803F8001, these 4 things are display, audio, rate us, touch. Is it ok to just ignore this? Can't update them since 2 days ago.

I see a lot of ppl suffering from excruciatingly slow update from 10512 to this new build, I suggest roll back to 8.1 (if possible) and update directly, since it only took me only about 1 hour to complete it from 8.1 to 10536.1004

Just checked my Battery Saver and saw Photos and Store both using over 10% battery running in background, wow! I'm gonna try disable them running in background to see if it improves battery life.

Hmmm, so far so good on my 1520 @ build 10536. Left it overnight for the update.
Was slow at first, but after the first day of usage it's pretty fluid/smooth.

Likes:
Edge, new Outlook, action center, look and feel (ok lah)

Dislikes: breaks a few apps, apps randomly won't start, whatsapp can't open camera in chat, no battery app like Win 8.1

Gonna test the new Astoria build next.

I rolled back to 8.1 recently. Found the latest update 101536 to be more buggy than before. Main problem is battery drain. Seems this is different on each model. Using 640XL.

Hopefully the final version will iron out these issuea. As of now, I'm happy with the smoothness 8.1 offers.

Do i get more apps if i were to update from windows 8.1 to windows 10 especially for smartphone? I think windows is a nice platform to use but unfortunately they can never match up with android and IOS on apps. I saw an article by installing windows 10, we can run most of the android apps. Am i correct?

The feature of running Android apps in Windows 10 Mobile is codenamed Project Astoria and officially, it was meant to make it easy for Android app developer to port their Android app to the Windows 10 Mobile platform.

Basically, using this tools, all that Android app developer have to do in order to have their app on the WP App Store is submit their app's APK to the store and store will automatically make it compatible with the W10M with little to no effort from the developer required.

This feature was meant for developer use only, it was never intended to be use by the normal user. However, some users was able exploit the feature and figure out how to manually sideload Android app on Windows 10 Mobile. Unfortunately, not all Android app will work as illustrated on this spreadsheet here or here.

I am waiting for Lumia 750 dual sim. Hopefully a mid-range device will be announced in the coming months. However, I also read that the models announced this week could be the last Lumias. Only a few seconds of the event were given over to the budget Lumia 550. As far as hardware is concerned, it seems clear Microsoft is focussed on premium devices. A Surface Mobile is surely on the way, though beyond the flagships and premium devices we need other OEMs to fill the gaps opening up in Microsoft's product range. I'd be happy to see Windows 10 Mobile devices soon from Samsung and XiaoMi. It is yet another waiting game, since Windows 10 Mobile is still on the way.

Build 10549 is released for Fast Ring

Windows Insider head Gabriel Aul posted the list of the fixed problems in build 10549:

-The Windows Camera app no longer crashes when certain applications launch it to capture a picture.
-We fixed an issue where the touch keyboard would get dismissed every time you sent a message, which made sending 2+ texts in quick succession difficult.
-We fixed an issue where swiping away a notification was causing the notification icon to appear top of your screen.
-Screenshots were not being properly saved resulting in many top social messenger apps such as WeChat, WhatsApp, LINE, WeiBo, and QQ unable to find saved screenshots. This has been fixed.
-We fixed an issue where you couldn't cannot launch apps saved on SD cards after reinserting your SD card.
-Pinch to zoom should work properly in the Maps app now.
-We fixed an issue where trying to set a custom ring or text tone for a contact shows a black screen for 10 seconds, then does nothing.
-We have added back vibrate-only alarms.
-We have fixed call-blocking.

This new build can only be updated from 8.1, so if you are already on Windows 10 Mobile you will need to roll back first

There could be a new build which can updated from 10536 very soon according to Gabriel Aul

We need to roll back to 8.1 to get build 10572. This will not be necessary for build 10575 which may come out next week.

Tested Windows Mobile 10 on my Lumia 640XL
Disappointed as it fail to even detect my Samsung 128 GB Card. Took out the card and reinsert/restart phone still same issue
I than plug in a 64 GB Sandisk and card is now detected but apps just failed to install onto the ext sdcard
Now reverted fully back to 8.1
Hope the official version will not have such issues
The WM10 however does indeed looks more polished and classier

just realised the current mobile build 10581 is slightly ahead of the latest desktop insider build 10576

updated from 10549 this afternoon, was fairly quick and painless.. so far no major issues encountered

download is about 800 mb

I had decided to upgrade again my 640XL to Windows 10. The previous time , it failed to detect my 128GB ext Sdcard
This time it was successfully done and apps restored back but than I noticed about 1GB of app was installed onto internal memory while another 1GB was at ext sdcard. Took some time ( darn slow) moving most of the apps back to ext Sdcard

my OS build is 10.0.10572.0

This 640XL is my 2nd windows phone after Nokia 1520. Frankly Windows app quality had a long, long, long way to go vs Android and even worse if compared with IOS. I don't see any significant changes and improvements vs my ex Nokia 1520 about 2 years ago !

Just to share my opinion, I'm using smart phone about 7-8 years ago since it know as PDA. During that time they use window mobile. Since that I never use other phone OS. I guess trying to be loyal smile.gif smile.gif But I'm getting frustrated now since the development is so slow. They limit the developer from going to deep in their OS. How to compete?
Last time I used 1 Window Mobile Program which is free ( Mobile Pocket Islam ) it help us Muslim as a Praying time reminder and some other Islamic calendar and function. It is so good such as giving us daily 5 time praying alarm.
The cool things is you can set up the program until the level each time when it is the praying time your phone will be automatically in silence mode for certain period of time. ( afraid you will forget to silence your phone and disturb other during performing prayers)
But now because of the limitation the same concept software is available but, so limited until the praying time alarm will keep ringing until you stop it manually.
If they don't do something and do it fast I believe they will lost more and more supporter.

Just my opinion. TQ.

i doubt that MS dont really care about their lumia line...
even 950 and 950xl dont have an exact launch date in the US...
while PO are only available in very limited countries...
good news is that 950 is going through sirim certification, so it could reach malaysia soon...

as you can see, the windows 10 mobile isnt really ready for prime time...so i guess that's one of the many reasons why MS dont want to commit a date to it...
can MS do better, sure it can...
but i wont go as far as saying MS couldnt care less about lumia...

Seems like Nov 12 is the target release date for Win10Mobile. But which phones will get the update is still unclear and how long since then it'll take for it to get pushed to us in Malaysia, we don't know. But looks like a lot of activity from MS this month. How exciting!

On another note, I'm sure they're bringing in 950XL sooner or later. There's still quite a bit of time for it to go through the SIRIM processes. Either way, even if we just have the 950 in stores first, it'll be fun to go play around with that first to get a general feel of things smile.gif

I really do hope the MS Band 2 comes over here, but not getting my hopes up.

As for the L950, I think it's very good if they can release it here in December in time for Christmas. Considering how US is gearing for an end-November release and UK in early-December, I think we're lucky if it gets to Malaysia by Christmas.

Would be better if MS Malaysia actually makes some sort of announcement in advance to let us know when though.

No

Microsoft did tried it with something called Project Astoria that allow WP to install and run certain Android app. Basically what it does was have an Android OS subsystem running underneath the Windows Mobile OS.

Unfortunately, that project was canceled because they couldn't make the Windows Mobile OS smooth whilst running the Android OS subsystem so they had to cut it out.

A few things to try, if not already:

check for app updates
restart
soft reset
last resort, hard reset

btw, which phone model? I had this issue a few builds back I thought it was solved now.

I have try all of that, the only way to solve I think would be revert back to 8.1 then insider to 10..

Glance is present and functioning on my 640 LTE which I upgraded from 10581 to 10586.

Anyway, it's normally beneficial to upgrade from a clean 8.1 and don't restore your stuff except Insider app until you reach the final build.

Glance is present and functioning on my 640 LTE which I upgraded from 10581 to 10586.

Anyway, it's normally beneficial to upgrade from a clean 8.1 and don't restore your stuff except Insider app until you reach the final build.

New update from store fix the glance background not showing in my extra menu, I think w10m will soon out of beta version.

yeah, I also didn't feel the need to hard reset recently... except now I have issues syncing outlook.com mail and I am being told hard reset will cure it. there's still a few things quite messed up in W10M right now including Outlook Mail and Motion Data.

The app auto backup to sd card once a day but the files are encrypted so can only be used for restoration. Important chat, I will email to myself since then you get it in plain text format.

soft reset = hold down power button 10-15 sec until it reboots
hard reset = Setting>system>about>reset your phone, you lose everything in the phone back to factory default.

The "soft reset" sounds more like a reboot to me. Any difference between the two? Thank you in advance.

It is exactly the same.

In WP, you don't get any prompt to turn off or restart if you hold the power button like you would on Android. So, to do a restart or "soft reset" on WP, you had to do that aforementioned trick.

Thanks for the info.

Btw, on windows phone (in my case Lumia 430), how do I turn off the screen by just touching screen? Currently im using an apps to do just that.

One more thing. I can see that this phone has a double tap feature to turn on the screen. Ia there any way for me to turn on the screen using volume button like in most Android phone?

That's your only option.

And by apps, I take that you meant; you pin a live tile supplied by that app to your start screen and pressing it would lock/sleep the phone? If yes, then yeah that your only option.

Yes, thats exactly what I did. Would you recommend the best apps to turn off the screen? Currently I'm using apps called Nice Lock.

Btw, does using double tap take its toll on battery life? I understand that the phone digitizer need to stay awake for double tap to works.

Maybe you can have a look in your phone memory using the File Explorer for a WhatsApp folder called WinPhoneBackup (not the folder under Pictures), or connect to computer to look and set Explorer to show Hidden Files & Folders. If you can find the backups, you could possibly copy out and add back after resetting.

Not by a large margin. I barely noticed any significant battery drain when it's turned on so don't worry too much.

I noticed the phone is charging slower, lumia 1520
FYI, I'm using 2A charger and charge faster than original nokia charger when I had wp8.1
Anyone experience similar issue? Will hard reset help?

Go to setting > sound. Change to directions only ( with themes). Then go to general setting > navigation guidance and select anything what you want. Back to main maps screen, downloading will start.

it will take awhile for the battery to calibrate, maybe 2-3 charge cycle. Try turning off the phone and on back again after full charge, with the latest build the battery should be better or same with WP8.1 (cant really remember but i pretty sure its better)

just upgraded from wp8.1 to win10 TP yesterday
want to share my experience, especially for other lumia users out there with overheat issue

My lumia 1520 had always stuck at the installation process (cog moving screen) and then it shows low battery icon even though I had fully charged and plugged into charger. I even changed a new battery but still no luck. I had been looking for solution since the Windows Insider program for phone started.

The problem is actually caused by the phone overheated during installation.
I saw some posts in other forums suggesting to put the phone in refrigerator during installation.
It's kinda weird but I tried and it really work.
If anyone experience similar issue like mine, hope this will help
just don't put it in freezer

I meant why you want to do that?

Anyway, I don't think it's possible. You have to open upfront, then switch tabs.

Android browser has that (open new tab in the background) by default where you can open a tab and look at it later, and I used to it already. And of course it has option to open in the foreground. Wonder why Microsoft don't give the option.

Lucky I decided to go for Lumia 430 to give Windows phone a try. Otherwise I would surely regret more.

Maybe UC Browser or other third party browser has what you're looking for. I normally share links to Pocket for later reading. In W10M's Edge, there's Reading List too.

Just read the official release of W10M may be arriving 14 December for 630, 640, 735 and 830.

I'm wondering after that whether the Windows Device Recovery Tool will still allow us to revert to WP8.1 if desired?

Er, Microsoft Edge in Windows 10 already does that. Open link in new tab opens it in the background.
For IE @ W8.1, no way to do that. Use UC browser.

Maybe UC Browser or other third party browser has what you're looking for. I normally share links to Pocket for later reading. In W10M's Edge, there's Reading List too.
*
Yes. So far for Windows Phone 8.1 only UC Browser and Opera Mini (well-known brand) offer that functionality.

Since Edge does offer the same, I can't wait to get my hands on it.

Er, Microsoft Edge in Windows 10 already does that. Open link in new tab opens it in the background.
For IE @ W8.1, no way to do that. Use UC browser.
*
I guess it is just too bad for those who can't upgrade to Windows Phone 10 due to various reasons (e.g specs).

Just read the official release of W10M may be arriving 14 December for 630, 640, 735 and 830.

I'm wondering after that whether the Windows Device Recovery Tool will still allow us to revert to WP8.1 if desired?
*
How about the el cheapo Lumia 430?

I'm in a process of contemplating whether to get a bigger screen windows phone but before that, I need to be sure that I will not regret for investing into it. That's the reason for me to get Lumia 430 first before actually making a move into windows phone world.

I had installed several builds of Windows 10 on my 640xl ( on latest 10586 now). Midway I had tested n successfully downgraded back to 8.1 through their restore tool
Probably the 640xl specs is too weak for Windows 10 . There is obvious lag n slight stuttering in use
Again windows app still remain very poor quality vs Android n IOS. Those who had never use android n ios could happily accept what windows is offering ??

sold my iphone and never regret
I invested and rely heavily on Microsoft devices and services
it really depends on what kind of user you are

my lumia 1520 on 10586.29 actually works pretty well
it seems to have no more resuming screen
and the battery life had improved significantly over wp8.1
the only complaint I have now is the charging is very slow even with more powerful charger, 4 hours for a full charge from 15%
I presume it's due to lack of proper firmware

+1.

Using 925, with W10M Insider latest build :
+ no more remusing screen, and loading screen time has been reduced to almost non-existence
+ lesser RAM usage
~ battery : usage is far way better, and weirdly charging time has significantly decreased? used to take almost 1hour to fully charge, but now it takes less than that. refer pic below (still buggy i surposed)..

Just checking if anyone have an issue with charging the phone after upgrading to windows 10 ? My 532 been having this problem (most of the time it says 'connecting but not charging'). Not sure if it's my phone problem or something to do with the OS.

I couldn't even charge using usb cable and pc/laptop since it does not detect.

p/s: I wasn't using the original charger though since my original charger was 'killed' by my 2 year old daughter.

the phone will show charging if I leave it there charging
if I use it for a while during charging it will shows the same thing like yours
and the charging time is extremely long, 4 hours for full charge on my 1520, changing to a more powerful charger with 2A output doesn't make any difference. I'm pretty sure 1520 can charge faster with 2A output charger when I was on wp8.1.
maybe win10m is still buggy or maybe our phone lack proper firmware
extra info shows im on lumia cyan, but I actually update to win10m from lumia denim

When I use cheap charger it came a warning that 'the phone will charge faster if you use charger that comes with the phone' or something like that. The thing is that I can't charge the phone anymore and it's totally out. Not sure if KLCC store sell any original charger (last time I went they don't have one).

To send for warranty, do I need to revert back to windows 8.1 ?

p/s: it's true indeed that windows 10 battery life is better than windows 8.1 for my normal usage though.

^ Weird thing is, when I charge my L925 with the latest W10M Insider build with the original charger, it charges SLOWLY like 20%+ per hour or so, sometimes even less than that.

But when I use a 3rd party charger, not the bulky type, just the usb-triangular head adapter charger.. in this case, a huawei brand.. the charge speed goes up to 40% to sometimes 60%+... and most of the time.. err.. 100%++ per hour. Yup it's buggy, but it doesn't charge as long as it was in 8.1

Less than an hour now, compared to 1hour+ previously.. but the phone and the charger doesn't heat up @ overheat. Worried at first, but seems like it's fast-charging??

After few trouble shooting (thanks to the nice girl at Microsoft KLCC) it's not battery issue. smile.gif I tested using one of the display phone battery and my phone turn on okay. My battery is charging accordingly when using the display phone.

So now, it goes down to 2 issue, windows 10 or the port.

Since I can't charge my phone (connected, but not charging) I kinda temporarily swap my battery with the one on display so I can do the rollback later at home.

If after rollback it's still not charging then I guess it's port (not likely though since it can connect and detect the phone) then must be the OS.

What I'm afraid if some other firmware related issue since this phone is also use by my young kids (to play games or just to test whether gravity works tongue.gif ) so it could also be because of some hard abuse (bending etcs).

Whatever, cross finger and I hope the roll back works.

Any suggestion besides official Nokia/Microsoft charge and cable, what other brands I can use ?

Any particular spec that I should look at (voltage whatever) ?

port mostly get damaged due to overcharging, usually damaged port wont be able to detect any connection. most likely the problem is caused by the OS
my problem is just the same as yours
when I use wireless charging on my 1520 it also takes 4 hours for a full charge.
so battery no problem, charging port no problem, definitely the OS is causing such long charging time.

Ok. Last night I tried again, the phone is connected (I can access the sd card using pc).

However it does not detect when using 'windows device recovery tool'. mad.gif I've tried manual/force rebooting still it can't detect the phone so can't do rollback.

Maybe because I was using cheap RM 15 usb cable. Going to find a good 'expensive' data transfer cable to see if it works. Any suggestion which brand I can buy ?

Anything that's sold in KLCC preferably.

I bought 532 for 399 last time. Never have complaint (except this now charging issues which may or may not caused of my windows 10 upgrade).

Otherwise it's pretty good for it's price.

Couldn't find any original nokia/lumia/microsoft charger at KLCC so bought Belkin one. Same this, connected but not charging. One thing left to do is to rollback later tonight (hopefully I have the time).

Good thing is that my battery is not full thanks to KLCC Microsoft shop. biggrin.gif

Ok, found this links.

I guess reformat and reinstall might fix the phone.

If I can't rollback then I guess I will try a clean reinstall on windows 10 and see what happened next.

If still can't.. then unfortunately have to go to servie centre lah. sad.gif

I don't think reformat or reinstall will help, those links are talking about battery of computer/laptop
try to do a hard reset if you haven't done it after upgrading from wp8.1
and try to uninstall and reinstall the driver of windows phone
WDRT should have a "My device was not detected" button for you to click

I don't think reformat or reinstall will help, those links are talking about battery of computer/laptop
try to do a hard reset if you haven't done it after upgrading from wp8.1
and try to uninstall and reinstall the driver of windows phone
WDRT should have a "My device was not detected" button for you to click
*
What I mean reformat/reinstall is reverting back to win 8.1 (which I finally manage to do it last night).

Using Belkin cable it detects easily and I manage to do it in about 15-20 minutes.

However when I charge the phone it shows the usual battery charging icon but when I woke up at 5 am this morning my battery is still at 55% (when I started to charge before I went to sleep).

SO I took out the battery, gosok² sikit the battery and the insides of the phone then battery can charge. I change to flight mode and the battery was fully charged (100%) in an hour.

So I guess it's hardware defect ?

Anyone can gove me the exact address for microsoft service centre ?

I think it's near or inside amcorp mall pj.

Thanks man. Now for the past 2 days since I downgraded no more battery charging issues (except the first time). Probably the trip to service centre will be delayed a bit. biggrin.gif

Recently I didn't feel the need. However, this evening had time on my hands so did make hard reset. Kinda regret. Apart from the hassle of re-downloading / updating 50+ apps (most of which I never use), I got problems with email account setting and keyboard text prediction now.

Soft reset, yes. Infact, once a week.

Hard reset, rarely.

Speaking of YouTube. I noticed that Windows Phone 8.1 Denim YouTube apps isn't exactly looking like an apps as it is more like a shortcut to launch IE browser and go to YouTube website. Is it just me or you guys noticed that too?

Yeah, that's why need to support proper apps like MyTube rather than web wrappers.

After hard resetting twice, i finally downgraded back to win8.1 and did a clean install of 10586.36. Much smoother and problem free. Takes a while but worth it.

Just sharing. Installed W10M on Lumia 535 DS. First update is to .29. After installation complete and all, check for updates again and .36 is available to download.

Now running .36. Smoother/faster/snappier experience than 525 on .36. Must be 535's extra 2 CPU cores.

Well I guess Win 10 was delayed for a reason. I'm perfectly happy with Win 8.1 except for the PRIMITIVE browser from Microsoft.

Speaking of browser, I find that all Win Phone version of all major browsers are still in a primitive stage, to say the least. Heck, even Opera Mobile doesn't even exist in the Win Fon world, only a super primitive version of Opera Mini is available.

One of the reasons I just flashed back to WP8.1 after using W10M nearly two months was the Edge browser drive me mad. For example website like LYN, you tap on a button and the text gets highlighted instead of the link opened. I am ok with IE11, just wish it could be installed on W10M as an alternative to Edge.

Of all win fon browsers, I'm ok with IE11 but if we do a cross platform comparison, IE11 will surely be relegated to primitive category.

problem I have with edge browser is when I click a link on a desktop website, it doesn't highlight it. so I need to check the progress bar to make sure I did click on the link
and it is really hard to highlight certain text that I want

The beauty of W10M is Microsoft can issue an app update to Edge alone without having the need to update the whole OS, like WP8.x

That Edge issue is more apparent in .36 compared to .29 from what I noticed. Let's hope there's a fix soonest.

Edge can be updated as an app? I don't think so
so far all Edge updates come together with OS update, never see any Edge update pop up in the store

Hmmmm actually i find Edge to be a vast improvement to ie11 on wp8.1. Lots of pages and work apps work flawlessly now. Not perfect and still with bugs, but definately a tangible improvement.

Guys , I bought the Lumia 735 earlier this year because I wanted to wait for Windows 10 .. I read that the space required is 8GB , is it 8GB free storage or 8GB internal storage because I currently don't use SD card and i have like 1GB left ..

it means 8gb internal storage.
1gb is definitely not enough to install an entire new os
I will recommend to leave 3gb-4gb of free space

Alright .. I'll probably get an SD card for my apps and photos since the 8.1system alone will leave me with around 5GB left without any extra app

Have tested the win10 on my Lumia 1520. A lot of bug which sometimes can drive you to madness. Facebook apps is still at minimum function. Camera apps seem to generate not so nice picture and quite often go crazy with pop up pop in menu, crazy zoom in out and switch front back camera. Dunno if this is win10 issue or phantom touch issue. Microsoft still need to prove to the world that win10 mobile can be useful if they can produce what customer want. To do so, they need to have a goal and not relay on what customer keep telling them. Compare to android, it still have a long way to go but whether their current customer are willing to wait until then is still a question.

I am right now using my 'just came back from repair' 532.

Pro:

1. Faster than 8.1
2. Smaller OS file size
3. Battery performance seems better than 8.1 (no hard data, just feels like it).

However encountered few issues.

1. Twice after receiving calls screen goes totally blank like the 'black screen of death'. The second time I had to hard reset (the first time just turn the power button off/on only).

2. Using groove music, when I unlock the phone, the music/app stops. Not sure if by design or the app simply crashed.

Bought after raya last year. I think around August ?

Charging issue. Can connect to the phone find but charging is kinda touch and go. Sometimes can charge and sometimes cannot.

Anyway, I just went to KLCC to play around with 550. Not much different than my 532 except slightly bigger screen but the inside I think are mostly around same spec.

Guess I'm going to wait for 650.

Guess I'm going to wait for 650.

The 650's announcement is now reportedly delayed from 01 Feb to mid-Feb.

At the same time, there is talk of it having laser-cut metal, which sounds sexy. Hopefully, it's worth waiting for design-wise at least.

but the leaked render looks pretty ugly
I really miss the design language of previous Nokia Lumia flagships, colourful polycarbonate square phone with curved screen.

Any of you guys running Here Drive+ on your Windows Phone 10? Is the map as updated as the Android version of Here Maps?

The reason I'm asking because the Here Drive+ running on Windows 8.1 Denim is clearly outdated in term of Map Data update compared to Android version of Here Maps.

I can understand (I'm not saying that it is okay) that normal apps like Opera browser etc are on a primitive side, compared to Android version. Perhaps because they need to do the hard work making it running natively on Windows Phone OS.

But when it comes to Here Drive+ it is just a Map Data for crying out loud! Why can't we have the same updated Map Data as the Android version?

Are we Windows Phone users being neglected now?

Microsoft really need to look into this seriously if there are to stay in this line of business. Having less number of apps is one bad thing, but having outdated/primitive apps and Data (compared to other platforms) is really quite another.

I'm using Here Drive both when using Win 8.1 and now Win 10. Not sure whether updated or outdated though. Never got me lost though. smile.gif
