To all my friends here... based on my case, it doesnt work that way because i did spend RM500 in March and settle everything in March including BT and retail spending but HSBC still charge me interest. after called HSBC, they mention that once we sign up the BT with HSBC,  we will not enjoy the 20 days interest free period and now i recall the HSBC officer told if i accidentally spent on it, i have to make sure the settlement to the credit card will be on the same day as well (not too sure it follows posting date or transaction date) but have to settle the same because if you settle the next day it will be considered as late payment because no longer enjoying the 20 days interest free period. based on their advice, once you applied for BT, just keep inside the withdraw until full settlement. !!!!!!!!!!

found it in HSBC website > https://www.hsbc.com.my/1/2/personal-bankin...rd-fees-charges
g.  Interest Free Period  20-day interest-free period is only enjoyed on all retail transactions, provided all outstanding balances as per the monthly statement of the previous month are fully settled
*
Wow, if that is the real case, then the staff told me wrong things vmad.gif

If thinking of using the card for retail and pay on the same day, it's better use cash then...lol...

How if the scenario below:
1. Without any BT apply, I spend RM1000 this month, when statement out, I only pay RM50 which is minimum payment and I still owe RM950 to bank which I plan to pay next month.
But at the same time, I spend another RM300, meaning that I owe RM1250 in total, is there any 20 days interest free for the RM300?

2.
a) Applied RM10000 for BT for 12 months, without using the Card for any other purpose, put inside drawer and pay minimum amount RM500 after first statement.
Still owe bank with RM9500, the question is, will I get charge for any late payment or finance charges for the remaining unpaid RM9500?

b) With the same BT above, with RM500/month, it takes 20 months for me to payback all RM10000 BT, will I get any late payment or finance charges if I still not clear all RM10000 during the 12th/13th month? As during 12th month, I only paid RM6000 (12mths x RM500) total payment. During 13th month, I still owe bank with RM4000 in total.

Thanks. rclxms.gif

Hi all,

Just a quick question. Do I need to activate my HSBC credit card for overseas if I'm going to Thailand? Thank you
*
As BEST PRACTICE, you should inform the bank when bring the card overseas. This is to avoid any embarrassment and expensive roaming calls

My situation is the apply RM10,000 BT for 12 months and lock in drawer. This is what I confirmed with CS when I signed-up the BT and they read me all the TNC.

- I can pay RM500 each month, for 11 months without any interest (ASSUMING NO OTHER SPENDING)

- Month 12 I must pay the balance i.e. RM4,500

Provided I comply with the above, I will not be charged interest.

She explained that if I make retail transactions and make minimum payments only, there WILL be charges because the retail expenditure will not enjoy the interest free period. Plus, there is a priority in which payments offset the outstanding balance. In short, to avoid complications and interest, JUST LOCK UP! smile.gif

What I intend to do is this:

When my statement comes out in Month 12, I will swipe RM0.10 x 12 on the statement date, and then pay the RM5,500 + RM1.20 in one shot. That will be 12 retail transactions.

By the way it's 5% on remaining balance, so it's rm500 on first month due, then followed by 475 etc.. makes quite a difference especially if amount is big.

atjm88 the above explanation is correct. Any spending after you have active BT, will not have interest free period.
