Hi. Thankiu so much for helping me. I'm deciding on Makai or  Pukanala.    hmm.gif Thinking to get one of those~

Oh yeah, I've found White Ukulele Waikiki for rm128. And a seller told me usually coloured ukulele is low end ukulele. rclxub.gif

And about Do Re Mi, is it in walking distance from Ikea/Curve/IPC?

Np. Always glad to intro ukes =D
If Maestro is nearer, I'd suggest to check the targeted ukes first.

Yes it's true, the reason why expensive ukes ( and most instruments for that matter ) have minimalist design is to show off the wood natural beauty. Besides paint actually dampen the sound quality. Because Waikiki is probably made out of cheap plywood, paint is used to cover the obvious low quality wood.

It's walkable, I used to work in Ikano and stay in the apartments in front of DoReMi's shoplot row.

Maestro shop is at Taipan there.. in the middle of very busy rows and rows of shops there.. hard to get parking there also.. I bought a 'K' brand there.. haha not what u think, it's Kahalu'u.. never thought I will bought that brand.. but since I personally went there and try it, I do like the Kahalu'u sound and feel.. a cutaway with pickup..

so very highly advisable to go to try the ukulele personally before getting it..

anyone up for a uke meeting? biggrin.gif

It's a type of wood. Solid usually means its pure wood and no layer of plywood had been added.More on wood I'll add it to the uke thread

There is this brand from Singapore called Prillante Ukuleles. Now selling in KL ranging from about 300 bucks to about 600+. Mostly concert and tenor for bigger size people like me. Workmanship = terror!

Sorry to disappoint but from what I see he's selling a lot of unbranded ukes that looks awfully similar to this
http://stores.ebay.com.my/Bruceweiart-Musi...Instrument-Shop

They stated they used "Solid Koa". I believe it's not entirely valid as true Koa is indigenous to Hawaii and cutting these trees down is highly controlled, hence why actual Koa made instruments are very expensive. Reviews from those who bought from ebay is always negative. The sound quality is very bad. Its does nothing more than just to look pretty on a display shelf. Some unfortunate cases the ukulele arrived with bad wood warps. I myself have contacted brucewei, in interest of purchase. However, even though he sounded really nice and helpful I did not dealt with him. It's just too good to be true. The site you linked, carries ukulele with hallmarks of brucewei's work.

On another note, Makala is reputable. Supposely the cheaper version of Kala but from personal check the price range and quality is about the same. Further discussion please check on the other ukulele thread. If you want advice on getting a beginner ukulele there's some tips and recommended shops available

Really? I bought my Kala for around RM 250 from Ukulele Malaya. Makala is going for around the same price at The Guitar Store, Damansara Perdana.
Anyway Samick is a good starting instrument as well. I bought a concert for around 180. It comes stringed with Aquila. One of the best strings for uke

It costs 310 for kala-15S now. Inflation? Lol...
What do u think abt Cordoba bro?
Hmm i tried my fren's soprano before, felt weird when i was holding it..too small..so most likely will look for concert size.

In my list now, cordoba...samick..makala..

Kala too expensive..as for lanikai n ohana, only saw penang n mlk got it..not sure abt pricing though

Where's your location? Ukulele Malaya carries Lanikai. That time when I bought Kala the owner also have promo for lanikai. Comes with bag and tuner. Cheaper than the Kala + bag
