http://www.malaysiaukulelegroup.com/ http://ukulelemalaya.my/ I bought my kala from here btw. I met up with these people a couple of times and they're a diverse, cheerful and friendly group. |

QUOTE(patrickfam @ Feb 20 2013, 03:47 PM) was actually looking for a Kala as well initially, the Solid Acacia tenor .... i know Singapore Ukulele Movement has it but the last round i went Singapore on a Monday they are closed. So end up i got myself a Oscar Schmidt OU5 from Davis guitar .... must admit the OU5 sound pretty sweet to me. I'm actually looking around for a new tenor as well, solid Acacia if possible. Could you share how much did you invest on the Oscar Schmidt?Just wondering, did you meant this Guitar Davis? This post has been edited by redlyfs: Feb 20 2013, 05:13 PM |

QUOTE(KAs30 @ Feb 22 2013, 01:02 PM) Hye everyone. Im looking for a samick brand model uk70 ukulele. Does anyome know where to find in Kl? I like the wood on the model as it has a rosewood back and side and a spruce top (similar to my classical guitar). But still i have to test it to see how it sounds like. So where can i find it in kl? And how much does it cost? Thank! QUOTE(patrickfam @ Feb 22 2013, 06:00 PM) Saw a review in Ukulelehunt on this Uke .... nice one but not sure where to find locally. Will keep an eye for you. Try DoReMi, Mutiara Damansara. They carry Sammick. I bought one from them. The TS of this is one of the workers/owners there. She's really friendly and helpful |

QUOTE(navilink @ Mar 2 2013, 11:31 PM) QUOTE(patrickfam @ Mar 7 2013, 05:45 PM) I doubt Mahalo comes any close to any of the big Ks. Ply-wood vs koa? Whoever thinks Mahalo sounds great should stick to it. And never ever pick an 'expensive' ukulele, it'll spoil your love for Mahalo. |

QUOTE(nubfight4 @ Mar 10 2013, 11:19 AM) Hey, just bought a Mahalo U320G less than a week ago, first time having an instrument too. Your G sounds louder probably its because the way you angle your fingers. Its either too deep or too sharply angled. Try a wider angle, think of your fingers floating through the strings. Buzzing is normally caused by improper grip. It may be because its not pressed hard, or maybe your other fingers intruding in. |

QUOTE(nubfight4 @ Mar 10 2013, 05:16 PM) If you're really into Ukulele, I really suggest you go to a nearby uke shop to try other ukes out after you're familiar with how your current one sounds. Ukulele Malaya have a wide selection =D Gotten a few from there. These instruments makes excellent gifts. |

QUOTE(navilink @ Mar 11 2013, 04:26 PM) Nah. Bought as gifts. Can sama-sama jam together lol. I now only own a Kala 15s, in the market for a good tenor. I think I'm quite picky, want good sound with certain types of wood. I found a nice Tanglewood made tenor only for 500, hardcase + aquila strings selling in Guitar Collections. Sound is acceptable. Very nice and clean built. Workmanship is excellent. Wood is Mahogany. Tempted but since my Kala is already Mahogany and don't plan to sell it, I let the deal passed =( http://www.tanglewoodguitars.co.uk/product.../union/TU4.html |

QUOTE(yihlingpow @ Mar 11 2013, 11:48 PM) wow...didnt know about that. im a beginner. am thinking to buy seven tone concert ukulele. is it okay for rm160? For 160.. I really encourage you to look into other ukes. I bought a Seven Tone before and I don't consider that as a proper ukulele. Compared to my soprano Kala, its thinner and tinier. Sound quality is quite bad, even after replacing strings with Aquila and lowering the action. It doesn't carry and sounded weak. I really don't recommend this ukulele if you see yourself playing ukulele long term. There's a shop in Mutiara Damansara selling Samick. So far I found that its the best ukes for price below 200. Comes with aquila strings. In batu caves area, there's a shop called Ukulele Malaya. A lot of variety but the good beginner costs around 200-300. I gotten my Kala15s from here. Its a very good starting ukulele. Won't break your bank but still sounds good enough that you won't feel so disappointed comparing tones in Youtube while learning =D http://www.facebook.com/ukulelemalaya?fref=ts If its too far, there's a guy in LYN selling Eddy Finns. The workmanship isn't so good, there's excess glue at sides and brace but mostly you could sandpaper it away. Doesn't come with aquila. I bought from all mentioned sellers before. There's another seller, I can't vouch for him since I haven't dealt with him personally before. His packages is quite reasonable for beginner, as some contains tuner and bag. His shop is somewhere in USJ, Subang. http://www.facebook.com/maestro.uke?fref=ts Good luck in your ukulele hunt. Btw guys, I created an Ukulele thread. Hope you guys can drop by a hi =D http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?act=ST&f=107&t=2719878 |

QUOTE(yihlingpow @ Mar 12 2013, 03:09 PM) Mutiara Damansara? Do you have an address or anything? I'm still new to KL. And how to get there by public transport? Here, Do Re Mi, Mutiara DamansaraThe Seven Tone Concert Ukulele is from Maestro Uke. It's past Ikano/ The Curve/ Ikea area. Here's the seller contact in LYN, not sure if she's still active though. A very nice lady. Seems you found her thread too lol. http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2009405/ Oh Maestro's is carrying Seven Tones? It's cheap but I really don't recommend it. Here's his shop's blog, if you haven't found it. http://ukulelestore.blogspot.com/ From what I see in their store, Makai is pretty ok, their designs seems to be similar to notable brands like Ohana. So is Cordoba, it's originally a Portugal guitar making company that expanded into ukuleles. The rest looks pretty dodgy. This especially goes for Mahalo and Waikiki, which have a terrible reputation. Avoid these I realized all these is probably overwhelming, if you have the chance it's best to go to a shop to look and feel the instrument. Its ok to hold and tell the shopkeeper you're a beginner, hopefully the guy is friendly. I took my sweet time choosing my first uke in Ukulele Malaya and the owner is just right beside telling me what to choose and how to play. He even brought out the cheapo ukuleles and played for me to compare the sound quality. Anyhow my best advice to you right now is, avoid Seven Tones. And those ukuleles that's been cutely painted. Unless done right, the paint will deteriorate the sound further. It's usually a cheap way to market a cheap plywood ukulele. edit: btw I bought my Seven Tone for RM100 only, comes with tuner. QUOTE(yihlingpow @ Mar 12 2013, 09:09 PM) Hi. Thankiu so much for helping me. I'm deciding on Makai or Pukanala. Np. Always glad to intro ukes =D Oh yeah, I've found White Ukulele Waikiki for rm128. And a seller told me usually coloured ukulele is low end ukulele. And about Do Re Mi, is it in walking distance from Ikea/Curve/IPC? If Maestro is nearer, I'd suggest to check the targeted ukes first. Yes it's true, the reason why expensive ukes ( and most instruments for that matter ) have minimalist design is to show off the wood natural beauty. Besides paint actually dampen the sound quality. Because Waikiki is probably made out of cheap plywood, paint is used to cover the obvious low quality wood. It's walkable, I used to work in Ikano and stay in the apartments in front of DoReMi's shoplot row. |

QUOTE(yihlingpow @ Mar 13 2013, 10:39 PM) It's a type of wood. Solid usually means its pure wood and no layer of plywood had been added.More on wood I'll add it to the uke thread |
