If you are really eating at 1600kcal when you were eating 3000kcal, exercise intensity is what hindering you. Dont go balls to wall straight away. Start slow. 5 push ups and you are dead? No problem. 5 today, 6 tomorrow, 7 the next day, 10 the next week. Still no one is asking where does the fats go after it is oxidised.
