Here's one video full of tips and tricks by Gary Fong the plastic flash ball thingy guy:

It should be plenty informative. Follow up with some of the Tutorials and Cheat Sheets on the Digital Camera World website (Google it ler) and you should be good to go.

Youtube. Gary Fong is more like promoter for sony than tutorial. Tony northrup video is rather informative for general tips and help. There are others but considering a6000 popularity you may have to dig in deep to find the one you like.

My first attempt on unplanned taking star trails with only tripod + my A6000 with 16-50. Was planning to take milky way but moon is too bright and in luck of meeting 2 70 years old photographer taking star trails, and gotten some knowledge from them but the outcome is fail as it is dotted star trail which I guess the gap between each picture is too long as I manually press the shutter button with 2 sec timer each time sweat.gif

Yum... looks like a great FF lens. No converters?

K1d0 Looks okay to me lol. Might not be fully continuous star trails, but it looks pretty nice in its own unique way.

Yeah, kinda satisfy with this as my first attempt. I did not take long enough, just around 50+ image as it is too cold that night. Wish to try more but kinda hard to find a suitable place in malaysia and also safety is also my main concern sad.gif

K1d0, there is an app for A6000 from play memories that uses the 'evf eye detection' as shutter control, u can lock burst mode, and swipe your hand over the evf eye sensor and it will lock shutter, no need susah press the shutter.... smile.gif

Or just download an IR remote app for your phone... but you'll need an IR blaster for that (Note 3/4, S5, HTC One).

One question though, does the Touchless Shutter thing save in RAW or JPEG, and can you change its settings? Or does it just triggers the shutter according to your current settings?

Asking because apparently most of the Apps run their own shooting screen separate from the main one.

If you wanna keep it tack sharp, invest in quality filters. Mind you, quality isn't necessarily the most expensive... but good ones tend to be pricier than your typical low end eBay stuff.

Of the Chinabrands, seems that Zomei and Haida can be considered to be a tad better than the rest (of the cheapies) - especially the top end Zomei stuff which I personally use (their UHD ND1000 is quite amazing for the price).

Next, it might be more prudent to get filters (except maybe UV/Clear, as they're meant to stay on lenses) like ND or CPL in bigger sizes - according to your future lens purchase plans - and use step-up rings to adapt them to your current lenses. At least in this way you don't have to buy multiple NDs and CPLs for all your lenses.

Also, regarding UV/Clear filters, if you shoot a lot at night, you might want to forgo these filters altogether (or at least be prepared to pull them off when needed) - most of them (except maybe the highest end ones) introduce light blobs to light sources due to additional internal reflection (light reflecting from the sensor to the filter and back into the sensor). This might, or might not be a problem to you though, YMMV.

Just a bit of my 20 sens. Good luck filter hunting!

Zomei mostly I buy from eBay auctions for the best prices, and the best ones seems to be their UHD Slim line. Haida is a bit more common, and their top range is the Slim II filters. Try searching Lelong for both.

Marumi is also good, and an extensive selection is available from Photo Zaloon (Pudu Plaza) if you prefer a physical shop. Marumi is quite a bit pricier than both Zomei and Haida, but they are quality Japanese filters... at usually less than prices of comparative Hoya stuff. So yeah, worth considering.

Just make sure, whatever filter (from whichever brand) you pick, that they're at least Multi-Coated. Reflect some light on it and you should at least get a few greenish reflections back - which is a simple way to determine whether a filter is MC or not.

While most of them, even the cheapo ones, are MC these days; it doesn't hurt to make sure lol.
