Oo  wow nice to know there are parents here like me.  Congratz Fiona.  First recruit?  Just to share. My daughter experience her first 2 years of kindergarden in Singapore and i can assure you it is totally worth it.  She can speaks English pretty confident now and very good in expressing herself to the public.  Which i find quite different from other children in Malaysia.  I also notice different childcare comes with different quality.  I was on a one year waiting list for the childcare near my hdb which cost 1k compared to 650 from the other one.  I only want it cause it is just below my hdb but i always wonder why so expensive yet why is there a 100 people waiting list.  When my daughter did gets in in k1  i realized the level of education is totally another level and i like how they always talk to us in preparing us for her primary schooling.

I will be bringing my 2 months baby there next month.  80% of the infant care in my area are fully booked.  I might need to resort to nanny if i cannot get one.  It is not cheap for a foreigner like me there.  The monthly cost of infant care alone is 1800++ excluding milk etc.  Any tips for me?

for infants, nanny would be a better option budget wise
my dotter is still with the nanny since she was 3 months until now 20 months
a good nanny is not easy to find, u need luck. laugh.gif laugh.gif
infant care requires early queueing....some even before the mother is pregnant. sweat.gif sweat.gif

What bank is that?
You can always put money in that online account a sum of money.
Like Maybank, all money are out in online FD and I only use it to pay my monthly bills and cards. Balance will be put in FD again.

Haha ya first recruit. I would mostly convert to work at home mum. Now talking with boss about maternity leave and arrangement after birth, maybe one year sabbatical leave hopefully. Don't want to put the baby under nanny care or nursery. At least not before they can speak and complain if the nanny torture them or not.

If too expensive you can either ask your parents or in laws come and take care of the baby, or convert to local for cheaper fee.

CPF and Income Tax

- If you work 183 days or more in a calendar year you are a tax resident and pay the same progressive tax rates as locals.
- If you work less than 183 days you are not a tax resident and pay flat 15% tax or progressive tax rates as locals (whichever is higher). However the following year if your employment spills over into exceeding 183 days you can request IRAS to re-assess you as a tax resident and refund you the difference in tax paid.
- Visit IRAS website for more information on taxes.
- CPF (equivalent of our EPF) is only mandatory for PR's and SC's (Singapore Citizens) at 16% Employee, 20% Employer, capped at first $5k per month.
- Some companies will encash the employer portion for foreigners.
- Visit CPF Website for more information on CPF.

Dear All,

My scenario is that i only started working August 2014 and is still with the same company; wanting to file in for Year 2014.

My colleague informed me that although i worked for less than 183 days in year 2014, i am still with the same company thus i am considered as a tax resident and shall only pay progressive tax rate as locals; and not 15% flat rate.

She claimed that the flat 15% is only applicable if i left the company by working less than 6 months.

Please advise.

Hi, you can try using a reputable money changer in Singapore to do transfer to your Malaysia bank account. Besides, money changer will have a better conversion rate compare to bank. My colleague has been doing this for quite some time. She's using a money changer at Jurong Point, btw.

Just my 2 cents worth. smile.gif

May be u can consider staying in those back pack lodges which paying daily or weekly. When u got to work in singapore. Just stay n pay the number of days in the lodge. If your working days are 50% in Singapore. Then not worth it. U can find a room sharing with someone so that it can lower your monthly rental cost.

well actually. its kinda hard. sometimes my work maybe over 50% in singapore and some maybe not. its a project based work..
