Hmm.. I think I should clarify on working late, and weekends in audit. Yes, we do work late, but that is usually only during peak period, or when close to a reporting date/deadline. And maybe once a while during weekends, and even so, the time is flexible, you can come in after lunch during weekends (As long as you finish your work!).

Come May to Oct, most of the time you'll be going back by 8pm, (sometimes 5.30 sharp) or you wil be utilising your annual or OT leaves. This means, we have like, 3 months of super hard work, 3 months of hard work, and 6 months of normal work/break.

But audit is certainly enjoyable, when staying back late is because you WANT to, and not because a senior asked you to stay back or so on. After a few months experience, you are basically given much more responsibilities, seniors will just give you a set deadline to get it done. No matter how late you stay, it doesnt matter, just get it done! This is where you would WANT to get it done no matter what, either waking up early to do your work or staying up late to finish it. The flexibility is certainly a good thing in audit.

Furthermore, when you are young, you will have the energy to work. All you need to do is use your brain, how hard can it be? Just crack your head, think of a solution for issues, discuss with clients/seniors/partners and document accordingly. The satisfaction of solving a problem, getting a file cleared, getting an accounts signed would be damn freaking good.

Hello Everyone,

Erm... I've gotten accepted into Kpmg for early Dec- late Feb. I'm from small town Seremban(love it!). Glad i got the place cuz stiff competition; Always the case with the Big4s. I'm considering getting a room around there; my dad is rather keen on the idea of me travelling to and fro (not sure if i'm driving or taking them trains). Obviously costs (Rent v.s NGV{Yes I run a gas vehicle}) are important.

I'm wondering if the Allowance is a One-Time-Thing or monthly. I would really appreciate if someone could give me a solid reply on that. If so, I am also wondering how much KPMG gives allowances monthly as I need to budget(Rent, food, etc..etc..). But I am also worried that I would be damn 'sotong'(dog-tired) by the end of the daywhilst having to drive home to Seremban (hopefully Pungut Lebih Untuk Samy isn't jam) and have to wake up early in the morning. Opinions are warmly welcomed.

Cheers ,
Bryan

just curious, isn't working in audit firm usually we are required to stay outstation depending on the client's location? I think it is not sufficient for you to travel daily in my opinion.

I am not from audit firm, just curious.

Depending on the firm, they would probably have branches outside of KL to service non-KL clients.

If you have to go outstation, the firm usually arranges for accommodation, and pays an outstation allowance.

Allowance RM 800? that's great, considering add together with the basic salary means easily can hit 3k for a fresh grad?

when going outstation, how about transportation? we use our own or there is company car to use? newbie here, interested to apply into audit firm so want to learn more notworthy.gif

I think the allowance of RM800 is for practical training. The only allowance for working late is just RM25 if i'm not mistaken. and 1 our of OT can be converted to 1 hour of leave.

Hey friends,

I went for interview for one of the big four last tuesday.

And today I got a call from the firm at 6.30pm! But I didn't manage to answer it coz the phone wasnt with me.

I wonder if it's a rejection call or would it be a call to say that Im being offered a job?

It's weird to receive a call after office hour, isnt it?

Ahh, the uncertainties!! unsure.gif

It's not surprising that they called you at 6.30pm. I had an acceptance offer email sent to me at 830pm from HR department of one of the Big 4 last year.

It really depends.
Based on time to get there and location / distance.
I got lots of colleagues driving back and forth to Port Klang, Bangi and KLIA area. Distance quite far but they love the allowance and less jam. Knowing auditors, they probably speed at least 150km on the highway.
