Hmm.. I think I should clarify on working late, and weekends in audit. Yes, we do work late, but that is usually only during peak period, or when close to a reporting date/deadline. And maybe once a while during weekends, and even so, the time is flexible, you can come in after lunch during weekends (As long as you finish your work!).
Come May to Oct, most of the time you'll be going back by 8pm, (sometimes 5.30 sharp) or you wil be utilising your annual or OT leaves. This means, we have like, 3 months of super hard work, 3 months of hard work, and 6 months of normal work/break.
But audit is certainly enjoyable, when staying back late is because you WANT to, and not because a senior asked you to stay back or so on. After a few months experience, you are basically given much more responsibilities, seniors will just give you a set deadline to get it done. No matter how late you stay, it doesnt matter, just get it done! This is where you would WANT to get it done no matter what, either waking up early to do your work or staying up late to finish it. The flexibility is certainly a good thing in audit.
Furthermore, when you are young, you will have the energy to work. All you need to do is use your brain, how hard can it be? Just crack your head, think of a solution for issues, discuss with clients/seniors/partners and document accordingly. The satisfaction of solving a problem, getting a file cleared, getting an accounts signed would be damn freaking good.
A very inspiring insight into the audit working life, thank you for sharing raymond
