from the general opinions, focal are more towards instrumental/acoustic music. however i have not personally audited one fully myself, i think the pros would give a better opinion than i do.

that said, i think boston acoustics (american brand) does well with most rock, just like grados or allesandro does for the headphones segment.

Rock Genre Comp like RS Audio will be good or look comp with mid can play below 50hz like >25hz-2.5khz...
Focal Access should be for country & jazz genre without hard bass...

german maestro, think of them as the sennheiser equivalent for headphones

both maestro and boston acoustics have low end models thats around 500-600 give/take, and of course have low/mid models that fits your budget of 800-1k

=edit=
oh forgot to add, boston lowest end model comp set (S60, the one im having) is pretty terribad in mid bass/bass in general especially if you dont have an amp to drive it. the mid range bostons i've heard feedbacks that they are quite good even without amps to drive (of course almost every speakers would sound better with amps to drive the mid bass)

lastly, be it boston or maestro, it will rape that shit sony xplod 3 way.

I have previously bought the Alpine SPR-17S Type R components which is within your budget, for spare purpose. I have no expectation on that Type-R component, until recently I plugged in those into my car temporarily, it's not bad at all..but must do tuning to make it sound good. I'm using IMPRINT profile for that component, upfront bass easily obtained, the midbass is strong and tweeters are somewhat fine after adjusting levels of it to reduce harshness due to speakers not run-in yet i guess..

anyone with Type-R components out there to share feedbacks? good for beginner smile.gif

Hey how much for a decent setup like those we have from standard manufacturer?

Just HU and better quality speakers.
My budget is below RM1500. Is this budget reasonable?

My Myvi factory setup is just too sucky.
Can't enjoice music at all in car.

I would say a good HU + ok speaker will do... forget about amp for the moment..

HU with good/enough RCA output is essential for later add in...

Hey guys, newbie here. I'm planning to get a DVC sub and a monoblock. The problem is, I'm confused in the power ratings. I couldn't decide on which amp to get.

SUB:
MTX TR5512-44, DVC @ 4 ohms, power rating : 400W RMS, 800W peak.

AMP 1 (MTX RT500D):
RMS Power @ 4 ohms = 1 x 250W
RMS Power @ 2 ohms = 1 x 500W

AMP 2 (MTX RT250D):
RMS Power @ 4 ohms = 1 x 125W
RMS Power @ 2 ohms = 1 x 250W

I plan to connect the coils in parallel to get 2ohms. Would it mean that I'll get 1000W from amp 1 and 250W from amp2 OR 500W from amp1 and 250W from amp2? rclxub.gif

Will the sub and amp work well together? Thanks in advance. biggrin.gif

AMP 1 (MTX RT500D):

RMS Power @ 2 ohms = 1 x 500W

You get 500w to run your 400w sub.

AMP 2 not enuf power.

SUB:
MTX TR5512-44, DVC @ 4 ohms, power rating : 400W RMS, 800W peak.

Mean:- Each VC need 200w rms @ 200w rms x 2 = 400w rms, impedance (Ohm) will not effect sound reproduction by sub..

AMP 1 (MTX RT500D):
RMS Power @ 4 ohms = 1 x 250W
RMS Power @ 2 ohms = 1 x 500W @ 250w each VC

AMP 2 (MTX RT250D):
RMS Power @ 4 ohms = 1 x 125W
RMS Power @ 2 ohms = 1 x 250W @ 125w each VC

Above amp 1 & 2 can drive your sub without a problem coz each VC just need 200w rms.. Advantage between amp 1 vs 2, amp 1 required less current than amp 2 when play at lower freq...

THANK YOU SO MUCH! rclxms.gif rclxm9.gif
How about for a SVC sub? MTX TR4512-04. If I have 2 of them in parallel, do I get a total power of 500W RMS @ 2ohms?(Connect to AMP 1) or... 125W RMS @ 2ohms?(Connect to amp2) DVC and SVC confuses me sweat.gif
