i agree w sifu desastar...i a newbie myself 4 d past few months...keep on reading more info fr d forum ... u ll get d pic on wat u wan....

I now can compared, at least from the folding bikes I owned

1. Trinx KA2016D - about rm900+ - 20 inch
2. Trinx FR1606 - about rm500+ - 16 inch
3. Dahon Speed - about rm1800+ - 20 inch

when wan to cycle only, just take and cycle around taman and put back, than any bikes will do. of course with geared one, one need to know how to adjust the gear, unless u have a bike shop near your taman that can do it than having travel long distant to get it adjusted.

BUT speaking for myself, when u started to learn how to adjust gears, than kena self poison that u wish u get better one etc etc.....

else get a single speed, period.

I used to tell myself (did not try any bikes) after getting the Trinx KA2016D, why shud I buy the Dahon which I could get 2 bikes of Trinx ? both can fold, both got gear, in fact my current Trinx have more gears, why paid double and get lesser gear ? when one surf the web, u will hear ppl commenting better build lah, better spec lah, more durable lah... all this in my mind does not make sense since never got a chance to try it out. Was contemplating of buying the mongoose with I know lots of gears and think value for money, (600-700 ?).

Speaking of my own opinion, it does make a difference between trinx ka2016d and dahon speed, smoothness. but how smooth is smooth, when one is poison like me, yes, the rating is higher, else for those non poison ppl, it would not make much of a difference.

lately I got the 16 inch trinx and normal riding ok lah... but quality in term of shifting gears and the finishing have much to be desired.

I wan to try one day with help to try each bike blindfold as often our eyes play trick on us. like we see outer beauty first, inner dun care first drool.gif to blind fold and than feel which one is really better.

I have joined a group of Penang riders and we were to ride Teluk Bahang to Balik Pulau and one of us can't fit into the car. We were in Georgetown then. So, he has to ride to the bus station near the jetty and then take a bus right up to Teluk Bahang. It was a Sunday then and he also took the bus back to Georgetown. So, it is allowed, at least on weekends, also without any covers! icon_rolleyes.gif

If casual cycling any bike also can. Just try buying at a reputable shop cause they would ensure more on the quality of the product before they put it on thier shelves. As for foldable bikes, depends on your need. Like myself, i decided on a foldable because i can just shove it at the back of my sedan. If i drive a truck, likeliest i would have gotten a roadbike instead. Its just down to whether you need the folding mechanism or not.

Also, folding can be used on public transport, for those who like it.

But yes, if you're not going to be putting it in a car (or your vehicle can fit mountain/road bike), non-folding much better value for money. Folding bike always got premium for the folding joint compared to similar/better spec non-foldie.

If you're considering public transport/car, consider 16-inch. I got 2 20-inch XDS for me and wife, and they're nice to use, but whenever I go LRT/KTM I always wish I got 16-inches for lighter and not so cumbersome. Don't like rolling the bike like trolley =(. Of course balance against that is that they're a bit more finicky to ride.

I noticed in especially folding bike, using Kenda to Big apple around taman no use. with so many pebbles grain on our road, if too fast corner, sure slip, sometimes even slow. am trying to find slightly more protruding "bunga" , maybe something like schalwbe jumping jack tires. think will it help ? assuming there is 20 inch tires avail.

when I got my MTB, I change from recommendation to panaracer tires, boy, I did regretted it. sure, straight is good but corner, near missed disaster a few times especially taman area.

So beautiful Dahon!!! I bought a 14" folding bike recently as my 18-year-old MTB was stoled about a month ago... I just cycle in taman and nearby, maybe around area of 500m radius. 14" is convenient to carry up the shop lot for "safe keeping" and cycling around. The downside is much bumpy than normal size, 20" and above. If folding mechanism is not important to you, you may get a non-folding bike with better spec at similar price.

Happy to get a folding bike and can carry to other places for cycling. Will get a 20" XDS or Dahon down the road for long journey cycling...

Thank you.

I have a pair of Maxxis DTH 20 inch with 60 to 70 percent tread. It's a 1.75 width. If you want to have it , PM me, I can let you have it for a steal! I changed because I did a lot of long distance riding and want something with less rolling resistance, hence the Schwalbe Marathon Supreme. I did some off roading in FRIM too with the Maxxis and it's OK. biggrin.gif
