Also, folding can be used on public transport, for those who like it.
But yes, if you're not going to be putting it in a car (or your vehicle can fit mountain/road bike), non-folding much better value for money. Folding bike always got premium for the folding joint compared to similar/better spec non-foldie. If you're considering public transport/car, consider 16-inch. I got 2 20-inch XDS for me and wife, and they're nice to use, but whenever I go LRT/KTM I always wish I got 16-inches for lighter and not so cumbersome. Don't like rolling the bike like trolley =(. Of course balance against that is that they're a bit more finicky to ride. |

I also suggest bike shop more reliable, especially for servicing, after a while you ride your brake need tightening, your gears need retuning, why do urself?
Since you have space constraint, consider a 16-inch rather than 20-inch. But ride it first to see if it's okay for you (handling). 20-inch won't have problem with handling, but its quite a bit bigger for me. Still regret not going for 16 =( |

QUOTE(H2D @ Apr 6 2015, 03:02 PM) actually for single rider, like u only need to carry one bike with you to ride. Except in case of rain.getting a car top bike rack is easier or same as folding a full size bike into the boot.... Or low-hanging tree. Or having to park somewhere for a long period without security. Or wanting to take public transport and cycle after that (okay la, if you have a car then this is not very important for that journey. |

QUOTE(lwkalvin @ Jul 16 2015, 03:50 PM) Bros, I'm new here. Wanted to get a folding bike just to get around my taman and leisure. Not willing to spend a thousand ringgit to buy a bike. Any recommendations? Wah groupon bikes for 700-800? May as well go get XDS or something from your bike shop, the one here in SS14 sold to be for RM850 or so I think (pre-GST).I've also come across Groupon selling these: http://www.groupon.my/deals/national-deal/...hd-31/720462228 and http://www.groupon.my/deals/national-deal/...hd-48/720519123 It's really cheap. Went to a neighborhood bicycle shop and was told the groupon folding bike got many problems, being unstable, shaky and hard to ride. Anybody got experience with these cheap china brands? What to expect? |

QUOTE(lwkalvin @ Jul 16 2015, 03:57 PM) That's published price before discount, as usual they jack up the price to show big savings to lure buyers Biasalah. But anyway, I was similar situation to you before I bought, tempted by the groupon deal. Then someone here pointed out to me that they don't show their bike folded. The uncle at the shop I bought from had similar bikes from China, he showed me how the folding was, and really a big difference. My XDS easily fit two in the boot of an Alza, for that one probably cannot.Side question: Any way to tell what's the weight limit of a particular folding bike? As in the limit how heavy a rider can use it. |

QUOTE(Blackbird @ Sep 10 2015, 07:33 AM) Hi all, At that budget look for XDS or below I guess.I hv decided to get folding bike for me and wifey, budget would be around rm800-850(for one). Which bike would you recommend? Just some 10-20km ride around neighbourhood etc. Nothing hardcore. But folding mechanism should be robust and reliable as it will be fold and unfold frequently. Thanks. |

QUOTE(PaulKong @ Sep 24 2015, 06:48 AM) I also spend quite a bit of time on the comment section and it seems the fee charge are not charge. They just want to know if your card is working. No charges whatsoever will be bill in your card. Normally kickstarter will charge when 1st October (end date of the kickstarter I guess?). It's a platform for supporting development/manufacturing, so you pay super up front. Some projects just fail to deliver, may or may not get refund also. However, I'm not sure when they will start charging the whole price. Is it on 1st October when the project take off or when they start delivering the bike. It's tempting to get this bike. I've actually pledge to buy a 10 speedster yesterday after reading the whole project. 😄😄😄 I do buy kickstarters, but its not as 'reliable' as actually purchasing from a company, normally. |

QUOTE(PaulKong @ Sep 24 2015, 09:39 PM) Yes... I did go thru the terms and conditions. Kickstarter will not be responsible for any default by the company. They are just the intermediary between backers and the company. In any case of default, we need to take legal action against the company, not Kickstarter As long as you understand the risks involved. There have been sad stories (a lot) on kickstarter, but those that I've backed I've been quite happy with. I wouldn't spend so much though. However, I feel this helix project will take off by the progress they are going. They just announced they will give backers better specs.... The first surprise is the crank set... They are giving sram, not sure what series but they say is the highest spec and it's made in USA. |

Not that I wanna give ideas to scammers, but doesn't it make more sense to sell at just about the right price? Let people be less suspicious?

QUOTE(desastar @ Nov 16 2015, 05:43 AM) All foldies with smaller wheels will feel wobbly until you get used to it. Once you are used to it, the big wheel bikes will feel heavy in the steering Also possible with more expensive (e.g. Tern) though. Best to check out with other owners. I bought XDS, that and Trinx are more budget (still > 500) but other owners told me would be fairly good quality. Heard bad reports on this thread about those groupon bikes though.Hinges breaking? Always possible with anything poorly made. If they can sell a bike under rm500, you can imagine what goes into the engineering and manufacturing. Something has to give. Check it out carefully and get feedback from other owners? |
