QUOTE(camillenoir @ Sep 25 2007, 08:50 PM) try high fiber diets (grape leaves, hibiscus leaves) mix with tortoise pellet. usually they won't take (bitter taste) but mix with pellets can do. timothy grass/hay mix with pellet also do fine, in fact recommended more than supermarket greens. and of course opuntia. Years ago I gave Kaytee land tortoise pellets.... but then the protein was high, then switch to ExoTerra's land tortoise pellets but only give once a week.p/s: had anybody tried GEX tortoise pellets? my tortoises seems crazy on them. How to feed timothy hay? Well, I have loads of that at home but when I place in my star's tank, it won't touch, more like hide underneath or use it as bedding to sit. Do you soak the hay? Chop it up? |

put them in blender, add some water and blend, then mix the blended hay with pellets. or just mix the two together and blend, though the blender would a little messy with the 2nd method (sticky pellet/hay mixture). blended hay can be stored for later use (dry it and soak when feeding), however blended hay/pellet mixture won't be fresh for long.
can also change the mixture to grape/hibiscus leaves/grass to make them appeal more to the tortoises. since uzairi like exotic pics so much, i guess i'll drop in a couple more
![]() ![]() i posted them somewhere else before, so some of us might have seen it -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- hay+tortoise pellets taste like pellets LOL, the hay taste being overwhelmed by pellet taste. exoterra pellets taste like wheat cookies. gex pellets smells like candy and taste like cod liver oil. yucky, but the torts love em. i asked my friend to bring in mazuri, see if he bring in next week. |

QUOTE(StraxorX @ Sep 30 2007, 05:28 PM) the turtles are copulating, but i'm not sure if there's any love involved (humans are also able to copulate without love wahahaha)#not making eggs, as eggs are produced by females and fertilized by males' semen. sometimes un-copulated females too can pop out dud eggs. i edited post #1996 to prevent backlash This post has been edited by camillenoir: Oct 1 2007, 07:48 PM |

good morning
thanks for the info camillenoir..i did exactly what u told me yesterday..i've done some research too over the net on stuff like food and lighting setup. and the importance of it. my aquarium is at the sitting area under the porch..and it is very cosy and shaddy. i still need to get the proper lighting as suggested. However, juz to let u know, i do have plans to let the turtles be outdoor ..i mean my house do have a small pond at the garden, but currently it is juz filled with teratais and some other plants. we left it vacant after our koi fish died several months ago. at what age should i let go the little heosemys grandis off to the pond? oh yeah by the way..gotta mention here too..we do have a regular visitor from this guy who will come to our pond quite regularly perhaps for a bask at 10.30 am. he will be at his favourite spot. my question now is, is it safe to let this "guy" be friends with my turtles one day? i know u must be wondering where i am staying to have this guy coming to visit us twice a week..i am staying in petaling jaya..no hutan whatsoever nearby..or any unattended house around. it really amazed me tho' .. but civets are quite popular around here.
