looks like a salvator (sorry i'm varanus ignorant lol).. anyway, it's still a monitor lizard and monitors are known to eat young turtles.

growth rate differs. depending on food, a captive bred 3 old grandis could reach 8-9 inches, and i think it would be safe by then. and yeah, its a good idea to place them outside, natural sunlight is the best for them.

its good to see someone else whose interested in local species smile.gif . one day, if those turtles turned out to be not a male-female pair, and you have intentions to breed them, i'll gladly help.

TrutH_SeeKeR : Nice to know that you love chelonians too, welcome to the family.

chillie : It depends on the size, i would recommend you 3 inch specimen that would cost you around rm168+-.

hi guys..

help me identify what species is this tortoise? it belongs to my neighbor next door. They juz moved in few months ago.. she kept it ever since she was 10 years old n now she is 65years old.. so i presume the turtle is like 70 plus eh? the reason why i fell in love with turtles cos i used to look at the huge turtle frm my windows every morning. it's huge.

I think that tortoise is about the 18 inch SCL range but like camillenoir could be over 20 inch

StraxorX
You think all tortoise will grow to 1 meter long and weigh a few hundred kg ??? That tortoise is a local species and measure no more than 22 inches long no matter how old it may be

StraxorX,
the only land tortoises (Testudinae) bigger than Asian Brown Tortoise are Galapagos Giant Tortoise, Aldabra Tortoise, African Spurred Tortoise (Sulcata) and Asian Black Tortoise. The tortoise in the picture is indeed big!

if below 1 meter doesn't fullfill you're criteria for 'big' biggrin.gif, look no further than 2-3 subspecies of Chelonoidis nigra (Galapagos giant tortoise), which can only be naturally found in the islands of galapagos archipelago. those are they only tortoises with potential to exceed 1m mark. a foreign dealer had once offered me a juvenile pair for RM120k. despite the temptation drool.gif drool.gif drool.gif , the price could win me 4 wives and those tortoises are in no way legal
