erm.. i just find out tat my ST have some injury at her back leg..

looks like his skin is tear off... izit cause by the shell ? cuz got abit sharp at the place his leg goes in and out..

should i do anything ?

and i read tat lettuce is not so good for ST.. can i feed cactus leaf instead ?

last thing is wat can i feed ST for calcium besides cuttlefish bones?.. cuz i dunno wher to get -.-
*
No, the shell won't cause injury unless the tortoise is over weight or got deformity. How about getting a picture to show us the wound?

Lettuce is not good. We are feeding our stars with sawi, a bit of kang kung once a while, lady fingers. You can feed cactus leaf like the prickly pear... but other cactus I don't think safe... even aloe vera is not good.

Calcium, you can get it from petshops.... just ask them for Reptile calcium and vitamin powder, they will show you where. Pet Safari, Pets Wonderland and Pet Family got stock. You just sprinkle a pinch onto the food and that's enough.

The best staple for star tortoises would be high fiber/low protein food, e.g. hibiscus leaves, grape leaves. i have also trained my stars to feed on clovers, grass and sometimes hay (when fresh grass is unavailable). opuntia is a little... expensive laugh.gif (that is, unless you have a cactus farm)

p/s: just a little sidenote. i have tried raising stars on exoterra pellets alone. growth rate is faster and no pyramiding, but the STs get a little fat. results might differ between keepers, btw.

One question here...

If one day u feel that u can't take care of ur babies, and would like to free them, where's the suitable place to do it without them getting hurt?
*
Its better not to let them free. You can adopt them to me.

You need to get a proper setup for them to stay healthy. Basking lamp, calcium supplement and multivitamin is a must for them. Daily staple food also must be correct, high fiber and low protein such as sawi.

Hmmm... it looks fine but its small... this kinda set up won't last lah.... Also, do use a bowl for it to eat its food. It is dangerous for it to eat off the corn cobs coz corn cob when get eaten can cause impaction. Also it is cleaner and more hygenic lah.

Well, you can use newspaper if you do not have any type of boards to make into a clean zone... I don't do that anymore since my Star is almost 6 inches hahaah... but young ones would need it in their eating area coz it is safer for them. But then this is up to you lah.

Corn cob can last a few weeks, depending on how frequent you clean the poo out. Corn cob has 1 drawback is when it gets wet, it can turn moldy and the mold can be toxic... so this is why we use wood chips or recycled newspaper cat litter.

Tortoises, especially Stars are shy lah.... it will take some time to get it used to you.

the white board is actually ceramic tile which is turned up side down, it's good for tortoise dining place, and the rough surface is good for trimming tortoise's nails.

and regarding your star head, usually star tortoise will knock their head up n down when they get nervous biggrin.gif

cute star you have there (and very cute owner too). with time, stars learn to trust their owner, and so will yours.

the government had already prohibited the import of both common and alligator snappers. (common non-cites, ally cites III, don't know why they prohibit) so they wouldn't be as common as a couple of years ago and most sellers are holding on to their stocks. the price of ally snappers should have doubled now, at least. the big common snapper at pets family would be 550 and the ally 1500+ i think. try haggling with husen la...
