Steps (DOS method):
1. Make a bootable USB pendrive with Rufus, choose MS-DOS. 2. Transfer the ME, BIOS and LOGO files to the USB pendrive part by part after finishing each step. 3. Make sure the AC adapter is connected. Press F2 to enter into BIOS control panel upon boot up, set the pendrive as the highest boot priority. 4. Flash ME->DOS folder first, type "pre1487.bat", computer will restart by itself. Type "1487.bat", computer will restart by itself. 5. Flash BIOS->DOS folder, type "bios.bat", computer will restart by itself, after restart the computer will start flashing BIOS *warning do not remove the USB pendrive and power source during flashing*. 6. Flash Logo, type "logo.bat", after flashing computer will restart by itself. 7. Enter F2 BIOS again, click "load default settings", done.
Windows 10 drivers (compatible to GTX860M, 960M and 970M versions)
Well since we Z5 user doesn't have a very good fancy UI control center to manage all fan, screen settings stuff, we get a macro key to utilize those settings FN + 0 => On/Off backlight FN + 1 => Max fan speed FN + 9 => On/Off Intel Turbo Boost FN + Esc => On/Off touch pad Others fn keys is pretty much self explanatory from the keyboard itself.

AC is the newest to join A/B/G/N it can transfer much faster per antenna, if you have proper AC router and fibre internet setup. Some said Killer 1202-N has better software for gaming but IMO not much difference. Just opt for the cheaper one. As for the future proof, take the 7260AC.

That's an odd placement for 2.5" to locate. Mechanicle hard drive tend to produce heat and over time, its not good for the battery to stay too close to battery.

The HDD has a very good caddy housing it, it doesn't contact the battery and trackpad directly. That's why you won't feel warm on the trackpad.

Nitro performance is great! Most games run on high/ultra with decent framerates on full hd. Example of games im playing: Skyrim, Crysis 3, GTA IV, COD MW3, Assassins Creed IV, Streetfighter X Tekken, Euro Truck Sim...lol.... Goat Sim...haHa~ i think the games that has slower frame rate is Crysis 3.
Yea, i guess have to agree with you on cooling. Right palm area feels warm with intense use... not uncomfortable...but if it could be better. Definitely not 66 deg on heavy load.. but still ok la. I think the fan speed is too slow...if there is a way to increase the fan speeds...i think cooling can improve.
Screen is very nice, def one of the better screens out there. Keyboard also very nice and firm. Touch pad not very nice....but i use a mouse anyway.

I cant describe how good exactly is the woofer of the z5 compared to y50..but since i get to compare both the z5 and y50 (belongs to my friends), i can say that the z5 produces more deeper bass and low frequency compared to the y50 Read my review at front page..i also compared with g55vw my old laptop

As far as i know..since both maxwell and kepler has 4gb cards..no way to check, unless u check through system information..
And if any sifus here this there is another way to check before ordering, do correct my statement above..

From my understanding, only GTX 860m give the confusion as nvidia released it both in maxwell and kepler architecture.
The rest of its 8xx series siblings and all 7xx series are all in kepler's architecture (correct me if i'm wrong).
As for the 900m series gpu, the one that are about to be released (or already released in some area) the GTX 970m and GTX 980m is confirm in maxwell architecture.

My Illegear RE-15 still working well. Used it for over a year now. Just normal wear and tear. A little problem with my space bar key though, but that to be expected as I used it a lot to jump during my gaming time. >.<

Hi Arvinaaaaa, since you did a full review of the Z5, I was wondering if you could provide me with some suggestions. I was looking at the ASUS G551 all along until I stumbled onto this beast here. With the Z5, I would obviously need to top up with Windows OS and some minor improvements, bringing the total costs to around RM4300. My question is, is it worth it compared to paying around RM3200 for the G551, bearing in mind I'm not a heavy gamer (just want a good specs laptop that can last me awhile). I really like the looks of the Z5 but is that justifiable for paying that extra RM1100?

hmmm..super interested with this laptop but very worried with the QC..how's the z5 build? the quality and especially screen? bought a ge60 apache pro recently, exchanged 3 times and decided to refund cuz the all unit received has screen defects (yellow tint/terrible mura effect)

Every ILLEGEAR laptop is tested for at least 48 hours and we will never ever ship bad screen to our customers. If you encounter such problem you can demand for 1-to-1 exchange from ILLEGEAR within 7 days, although such circumstance is very rare to us.

My Illegear RE-15 still working well. Used it for over a year now. Just normal wear and tear. A little problem with my space bar key though, but that to be expected as I used it a lot to jump during my gaming time. >.<
I plan to grab Re-13 once i've let go my rMBP 13".

Ok first of all..how future proof u want ur laptop to be? Coz g551jm is 2gb graphics while z5 is 4gb graphics..its not a big matter tho, as u said u are not a heavy gamer..

I got it free because i order it on friday and first customer for z5.. I think u just get diamond ic enough...it will reduce your temp alot

I don't think it will be that cheap. Probably near RM5k or just a lil bit more for the GTX 970M. The GTX 980M version will probably be around RM1.2k more.

The only downside of the AW13 is the CPU. If it comes with a Quad Core CPU, I think I might actually grab it. The big advantage of the AW13 are the GTX 860M GPU internally and can connect to a docking station with a Desktop GPU.

INITIAL REVIEW:
-the diamond ic thermal compund is highly recommended to get the temp at 66c or around that. 66c for a 45 min furmark test is considered very good.
-laptops feels very solid, rugged and definitely a looker compared to the lenovo y50.
-the sleeve is a nice addition to protect the laptop, just like what dell provides for the alienware.
-display could be sharper, but since i downgraded FROM WINDOWS 8 TO WINDOWS 7, maybe i need to reinstall the color profile again that illegear calibrated for me. EDIT: SOLVED, its as sharp as a chef's knife
-trackpad is good, keyboard is good but could be better (thats coz i prefer island type keyboard on a laptop (my preferences la))...maybe im used to the mechanical keyboard for desktop
-its a good thing illegear put the hdmi, charging port and network port behind..easier cable management.
-and yeah, the stress test done above is actually done on my unit..with the diamond ic thermal compound
-the 4 macro keys is a welcoming addition to the features on this laptop.
-keyboard backlight and the mouse pad lights are good, but it would be perfect if the backlight of the KEYBOARD is also RED..suits the theme of the whole laptop
second day review
Keyboard- good as usual, but the space button could be more sensitive..kinda missing the spaces when i type fast..not as solid and sturdy as the keyboard on my g55vw old laptop..but still much much better than lenovo y50..
Audio- woofer is good with the front speakers also..but my old g55vw can produce louder sound then the z5, BUT THE Z5 CAN PRODUCE BETTER SOUND THEN THE G55VW.realtek software is normal la, with minimal customization and basic settings only..kinda expected with no customization for the woofer what so ever. ADDITIONAL REVIEW: the soundcard could be better as the bass reproduction is kinda low..treble and mids are quite good for an internal soundcard..all this are tested using headphones and external speakers, not laptoo speakers. For the laptop speakers overall the sound quality is quite good and balanced..i would still prefer more bass tho
Battery- easily better then g55vw and y50..can last about close to 4 hours with brightness about 30% and wifi on and bluetooth off thats all my initial review...unboxing video to be released tonight and depth video regarding battery life, sound quality etc etc will be released soon..and anything u guys want me to test, just let me know

Definitely better than y50..better subwoofer, better display, AND BETTER LOOKS..

got my unit yesterday and manage to get it install and running.. ....awesome machine... really like the audio/sound ... clear sound and really good when playing video/you tube...also the touch on machine feel "cool"... (dont feel heat at all....)

As for the upgrade, IC Diamond is a must if you're planning to game, you can upgrade your screen or ssd but it will cost quite a lot and most probably exceed 4k
consider upgrade your wifi card to N (AC not necessary cuz most ppl don't use router that have AC support)

IC Diamond is a premium upgrade that helps to improve thermal conductivity between heatsink and DIE. Not just re-pasting the thermal compound we also test the thermal conductivity for few hours.
If you have limited budget, I suggest you to consider SSD as first priority.

I just tried out it.. but got no idea why my gameplay is not smooth I got my fps to consta nt 60 with v-sync on.. but when moving the "camera view/pan" it's not smooth.. and while my hero is moving with the angle view locked on them, you can clearly see the animation of the hero is not smooth (Eg: sniper cape when he's moving doesn't wave smoothly.. it's like spike)

Please advise us your Windows version, Nvidia driver version and send us the screenshots of your DOTA 2 and Nvidia control panel settings. We will try to duplicate the problem.
Meanwhile, please try playing another game to see if the issue persists in other games.

I not sure.. but i think it's due to the settings of nvidia i use.. I also feel weird cause running D2 shouldn't be a problem.. other z5 user all face non of this problem.. But at least illegear is actively helping me to resolve the issue right now.

I also facing the same problem.. You're using win 8 or 8.1 pro and your wifi card is AC right ? Prince J told me that we need to install the bluetooth driver from the official website cause the driver provided in the CD is not for AC card..

The QTradio driver is successfully installed after restart.
As for the hotkey driver, you can use these hotkeys after installation:
FN + 8 Enable/Disable the Camera FN + 9 Enable/Disable Intel Turbo Boost FN + 0 Dim Display
As for the Intel 7260-AC and BT drivers, please pm me for download links. You can also drop by our office to get a driver CD.

Nop.. no idea.. But for FPS i do know, get Fraps.. when you installed it and open the program during you're gaming.. the fps will be shown on top left corner..

For Intel Drivers, you can download the Intel Driver Update Utility at the Intel Website. It will automatically detect & update all the drivers in your system.

For the text blurry, it's not everything is blurry right ? Just certain program have this issue correct ?
If it's like that, sadly to say, it's windows OS problem..
Windows OS is not like Mac OS which everything will scale accordingly to the resolution.. Windows OS's text/font will remain the same size as in higher resolution.. so you can notice in your google search result page, your left side will have a lot of free space
Change back your resolution to 1080p, then go to Ctrl Panel > Appearance & Personalization > Display, change the size of all items to Small / 100%.. default is Medium / 125% The blurry text problem should be fixed..
P/S: jst use 1080p.. after few days you will get use to it

Your WiFi card is AC ? or N ? If it's AC then you need to download the driver from Intel site and install it yourself. The driver provided by the CD is for RealTek 1 if not mistaken

protective film to be exact. I've been using z5 for around 1 week and my keyboard already start to have some stain because sometimes I press the keyboard with oily hands. HAHA. That's why I am asking if anyone bought any keyboard cover.

Pressing Fn + 1 will force the fan speed to go maximum spinning. It's a bit loud/noisy but it indeed help to cool the laptop better when under full load.. Normally under normal load you doesn't need to use the Turbo Fan..

Personally experienced a SOD issue after putting the beast into sleep mode. I am not able to duplicate the issue so this would stay in observation. So far so good, everything is good, even better than some branded laptops (you know who). Personally not experiencing any heating issue.

Z5 measures its temperature and the fans kick in automatically when the temperature reaches the points.
The FN+1 hotkey is to maximize the fan speed in any event.
Appreciate your reply. You know little little, represent big big ?? (translate in Cantonese) SOD = go http://ddg.gg and type-in search BSOD aka Blue Screen of Death.
On your initial question, only issue I face is ... don't know when they going to deliver my order for z5

I've had my Z5 for almost a week now and everything seems to be going along smoothly. No heating issues whatsoever and this beast is as cool as a cucumber

Only problem is the frequent cleaning of this machine.. I tend to keep whipping the keypad and the whole laptop to maintain it's clean beastly look Hahaha
Last Time Chin told me that the problem of SOD is because of some software that you have installed might be causing that SOD issue when Sleep/Reboot/Hibernate....

Watch Dogs is absolutely a no.. 860m can't handle it Crysis 3 also.. according to notebookcheck.net Sad

Nop.. So far based on the benchmark, it's 30% increase in term of performance compared to 860m.. So 860m getting 50fps then 965m will be getting about 65 ? lol If you want high end gaming on ultra 1080p, 965m is not the choice.. 970m or 980m is your bet.. And 2GB vram is not enough to play most high end game on ultra settings..
The coming Witcher 3 if not mistaken, require 6GB vram to play on ultra / high..

Nope my keyboard and surface is as cold as metal, no heating issues whatsoever.
I put my laptop on a plastic-made table and it warmed my hand. I used it during my work and sometimes it warmed too. Not sure about others. How about during gaming? Does the keyboard warmed up even slightly will do?

could not be the nvidia driver, coz mine also 344.75 and no bsod so far..
anyways, there is a new update for the nvidia driver, try updating and see..

and when I google about the driver above. And stwrt64.sys driver is the High Definition Audio Driver. So try updating that audio driver and the rtnic64.sys is the Realtek driver. So problem is with them actually. So maybe the driver didnt found the hardware component or other related stuffs.

I think it caused by faulty hardware, corrupt device driver files, firmware, or software issues. What the software you have installed in your z5 Xarive?

I think the RealTek driver it's referring to is not the RealSpeed software.. it should be the audio or other RealTek driver.. Yesterday I just encountered a BSOD also.. error code : PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA I googled and it said it's cause of RAM problem or hardware problem.. Find it quite weird cause I'm using it for 1 months ad without any sign of corruption.. Hmm.. Mind go to KL after CNY to have a throughout check with Prince J..

Collected my z5 yesterday from Illegear. Just installed win 8.1 pro so far no problem yet, cooling is amazing no sound at all, right now installing Far Cry 4 lets see the gameplay. And having doubt in gpu. Currently no gamme playing so it's showing intel hd graphics ... but will it change it self to nvidia when start game?? . Everything is awesome except the num key is not enable when starting OS so become hard sometimes. Anyone knows how to make it enable as default. TQ
Forgot to mention battery.Battery is beyond my expectation. Because my old laptop once battery full then itwill say batterry full and keep on charging but z5 stick on 99% and not touching 100% when connected

Gratz on the machine.. again welcome to Z5 family mostly ur nvidia will be kicking in when you play game.. if your're unsure you can chekc it at the nvidia control panel.. The number pad issue is due to win8.1.. you can google it.. there's a lot of post regarding this issue.. it's cause by the Fast Boot Up or hybrid boot up..

Erm.. mind share what's the error code ? So far I just encountered 3 BSOD. After CNY will go to ILLEGEAR to have a stress test and check up..
The first BSOD I encountered is Driver_Power_State_Failure. After that no more.. Sorry can't help you much on this. I get that error I suspect is due to I'm doing Furmark on my Z5.. so many the power supply is not enough.. But I'm not sure..
Better find 1 day to send your laptop back to ILLEGEAR, post laju or carry in lo.. no choice

I'll definitely update you right here. For your information, BSOD of the DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE occurs not frequently. Around 1 week once or maybe not at all.

So bottom line, if you have Mionet, or WinpkFilter, uninstall either of them. If you have WinpkFilter as opposed to Mionet, you may need to rename it instead by navigating to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers and find and rename ndisrd.sys to ndisrd.old, and then restart the computer.

I got no idea also.. I'm not a very Windows system tech guy.. You need to consult others I think. Sorry cant help you But I think it may not due to the RealSpeed Utility, cause I didn't install that but still encounter the BSOD. Those file the guy mention I think it's the system file, cause it's located in the system32 folder.
P/S: since the RealSpeed utility is not compatible with the AC wifi card, just uninstall it. If you want to limit the bandwidth of others, use other software like P2POver or set the limitation through your router.

Kindly mail in your laptop so we can help to do a total checking for both hardware and software. From the list of drivers and software you pasted to me looks fine.
Lol.. Actually so far just 2 or 3 users having frequent BSOD if not mistaken. That's the bad part of getting DOS version of laptop. No pre-installed stuff, so sometime if you do it yourself you may have some mistake. Just hope that it's not hardware issue lo.. My Z5 so far encountered 3 BSOD, nothing serious.. working fine till now
if i use msata as primary den hybrid hdd as secondary will it have the problem?
coz my housemate laptop also use hybrid drive to install windows and a lot of crashes. but my Z5 use ssd no bsod at all so i just assume only laa you better install windows in ssd lol
By right bsod should not even occur for a new laptop, not even once..if occur either software (pirated version of windows) or hardware failure (if this is the case go straight to illegear)..
Couldnt be driver issue coz i install all drivers normally on a PIRATED VERSION of windows 7 (using removewat to activate it) and no bsod so far..so for those who got bsod, u know what to do
By right bsod should not even occur for a new laptop, not even once..if occur either software (pirated version of windows) or hardware failure (if this is the case go straight to illegear)..

Spotted 1 dead pixel, just 3 days after receiving from illegear. Actually spotted on the second day already. Well so far did you face any dead pixels arvinaa and others.??

Windows 7 tend to have less chances to get BSOD.. cause most of the software is compatible with win7.. Win8 or 8.1 is different story.. you know lar.. Win8 standard I also feel very shocked as I get 3 BSOD total for my 1 month Z5 I just hope it's not a hardware failure.. Will go to have a check in ILLEGEAR office after CNY..
Speaking from our experience, BSOD (Hardware failure) frequency is few minutes to few hours ONCE. Causes are RAM (Mostly), HDD, motherboard and others. Therefore, if you have a faulty ram or HDD for e.g., you will not need to wait for days to see the BSOD happen in front of you.
If you only get 3 BSOD within 1 to 2 months, that sounds pretty much like BIOS/games/software/driver/storage firmware issue. You can send in your laptop to have us test with our own OS to see if we have the same BSOD as what you encountered.
As for Mgr, 1 dead pixel is very common and please note dead/lit pixel is hardly avoidable in manufacturing process. Please bring it back to us and we can change a new screen free of charge to you this time.

If im not mistaken, can opt for lcd warranty if dead pixel found within 1 month of purchase. .im not so sure tho

Very true..i know windows 8 got shitload of problems, deswai i use win 7 until windows 10 release..but if its a hardware problem, im sure illegear will solve it asap...what im more afraid is when windows 10 release, all of us r probably gonna upgrade to it, hopefully the drivers illegear release are compatible and no bsod in windows 10

I terpaksa need to use win8.1.. cause I'm a developer.. need win8.1 just can develop windows apps.. no choice.. I think win10 still long.. mostly Q3 or Q4 2015 just will release.. we can use Dev version on Q2 though.. Let's hope the driver is updated during that time..

Only 1 driver bro..if u using the ac card dont need to install the realtek
princej i notice the trackpad, webcam, and inter turbo boost automatically enables by itself AFTER restart OR shutdown and turn on again, eventhough i disable them by using the fn keys b4 restart..
is there any ways to turn them off permenantly? especially the trackpad and webcam?
edit: ok i found the way to disable trackpad permenantly

Please try to enable/disable numlock/intel turbo boost/webcam etc permanently in BIOS.
