I see what you mean.

So, only the backlight portion of the LCD display is turned off but the LCD display on the whole is still working.

There is no backlight and you can't see anything unless you shine some light on it, and only when there's enough light reflected off the screen can you barely see anything, if at all.

But shouldn't we just consider the screen to be turned off since is it even possible for any laptop with such an LCD display to have the display turned off completely, instead of just the backlight, while the laptop on the whole is still turned on?

More accurately, it's not dimming or turning off the screen, but turning off just the LCD backlight.
Mine runs at 55 degrees C on idle.

Updated to on/off lcd backlight..btw nearest to lcd off is turn off backlight and set screen saver to blank screen..th ats the closest la

i thought ssd is suppose to be low power. so how exactly it get that hot ?  hmm.gif

SSD will be cooler, only when you doesn't put it near any component which will generate much heat. I think he is still using HDD and add in SSD.

Personally added, just wondering is it common among with others who installed crucial m550. Cause 70C is quite high.

I tried to checked online, seems like no good solution other than installing third-party program. So I wonder is the stock one having the same effect as mine or not.

Yea. For me SSD which goes beyond 60 is not good. It should be around 30-50 or probably lower. I think maybe it is due to the closeness of the SSD and HDD ? hmm.gif

I found out the problem, it's the laptop cooling system itself. Now my crucial is at about 55C when idle. The mSATA 2 slot is kinda hot by itself that's why the SSD is overheating, now I've replaced it on mSATA 1 which located in between of the fan, and adjusted the harddisk setting. For those would do not have HIPM and DIPM setting you may follow these steps.

On an average laptop, this will help you save about 7%-8% of battery life. On a desktop, you'll feel greener!

The default driver which comes with the CD works fine for me. Very smooth, no shuttering issue. Try reinstalling the driver ?

hi guys, im actually thinking of buying the Z5 but i have a few questions,

1) how much does it cost to have the same or better spec than my MSI GS70 (765M with 128SSD+750HDD) cause im quite confused with the customizing page

2) is this lap top worth purchasing? in terms of reliability and so on

3) what is this heat issue that i have seen at the last few post?

4) lastly, what specs should i be looking for at around a price range of 5k or so?

1) It depends on what area you want it to be better. If gaming wise, Z5 will be better cause it is using gtx960m/gtx970m

2) Yes, definitely. Z5 built quality is solid.

3) The "heat issue" mentioned in the last few post is regarding SSD. It may be the place they install the SSD is nearer to the HDD so the heat is "spread-ed" to the SSD. No real reason found yet.

4) If you're not selling your GS70, you can reuse back your RAM, 128GB SSD + 750HDD. It will save up approximately RM400. But you need to make sure your RAM and SSD + HDD is suitable for the Z5 casing. With 5k budget, I highly recommend get gtx970m variant. If you reuse back your RAM, SSD and HDD from your GS70, you can get it < RM5000 which is very worth it. You can get a retailed version of Windows OS so next time you can reuse back your OS in different machine.

P.S: You can pm Prince J to ask whether your GS70 parts is compatible with Z5 or not. May can ask them to do it for you with some service charge.
