Haha, it seems like there are some people here who would like to study engineering and were all discussing about the ranking of U in Australia, well to me i think which U rank higher doesnt really mean anything unless you are wanted. No point studying in the best U in aussie and come out with no jobs rite? Engineers in Perth are really different, as there is a high demand for it. I have many friends in Perth working as engineers, and all of them agree that this is the place where u can get highly paid as an engineer.... i am not sure about how much engineers get paid else where but the amount here is quite good.... wink.gif

Now the engineer's pay in Perth is really good due to the mining boom. What happens when the mining boom cease? Would the engineer suddenly get less pay?

I wonder how long will the mining boom last....

I have to agree, but for civil engineers they will be relatively safe, as in peace or war or mining boom people still need to have their houses built. Still, while the boom times last, make the full use it it!

Thats true,no point going to places like MIT and be lazy there.

Ranking is not my main concern but the quality of teaching is more important.

I don't know what is the value of E65 but just get the 6288, it's free on the 29cap, or the k610.

Paying that extra monies per month for 2 years not worth it IMO.

Because it IS true. Go8 universities get more funding because they:
a) have more students. They attract the state's top performers, etc.
b) do more credible/excellent research work than any other university. Don't fall for marketing ploys, but you can check the universities' web sites and the Australian media to see which universities' research work are usually highlighted and they are usually Go8 unis by no accident.
c) have better academic resources, international links, etc.
d) are more prestigious, much like the Ivy Leagues in the US. <- This is of no real concern.

Although rankings are insignificant, there is a difference between the graduates of the first-tier universities and their peers. For one, the work/assignments are generally tougher, hence giving their students a greater challenge. They also have more industry partners so graduates are able to stand out from the crowd. Teaching quality, however, is subjective. This is an area where students' comments are valuable. Many university lecturer's renumeration awards aren't based on their teaching performance, but their research work, hence they lack the dedication to teach.

There are also other significant fields of engineering besides civil and mining. Particularly in technology, there's always Computer, Software, Eletrical Engineering, Telecommunications, etc. which are playing an increasingly important role as we rely on the power of computing to perform our everyday tasks.

Well.... It depends what kinda person are you. If you like the great outdoors, mother nature, peace and tranquility, Tassie is definitely the place to be (in Australia). Its NOT THAT BAD here... Definitely a good place to study. GOOD UNIVERSITY I MUST PRAISE tongue.gif serious! No distractions as some people tell me. What do we do? Fishing... Badminton... Indoor soccer... Main PS...

NO SHOPPING MALL here in Launnie... doh.gif cannot lepak... *sigh* But i agree with you. I'm from KL thus SOMETIMES I oso cannot tahan here! haha... If Hobart, boleh tahan lagi ler... but im in Launnie! doh.gif KL IS STILL THE BEST!!

*i miss home* cry.gif

Bubucaca! You studying in which Uni? smile.gif

Thanks for enlightening me but i dont really get the marketing ploys.Could you give an example or 2?Does it means that Go8 unis dont do marketing ploys?

It simply means don't fall for their marketing tactics. Lower tiers often claim they are prestigious, quality education etc. Don't listen to them. Do your own research.
