How's the teaching quality there?Im planning to do E&E engineering there.

There are a few great professor in the department of E & E Engineering. Though there are also some new lecturers whom I think are inexperienced. Overall standard is very high, one of the highest in Australia.

ANU is the top uni in Aus but you have to be really good to enter. UQ and UNSW are also popular for engineering. Actually they are more or less the same (except ANU). The thing that matters is which city you prefer to go. Adelaide has slightly lower cost of living compared to bigger cities like Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. Some say Adelaide is boring, believe me when you are doing a course like engineering, you won't even have time to go for entertainment. Well Adelaide is quite good for studying, slow pace and well organised.

Uh, no? ANU is the top in Aus, but no way it is difficult to enter. The TER is governed by supply and demand. And really, Canberra ain't a popular destination for students. Think Putrajaya. That is why UniMelb has a higher TER requirement even though it is ranked lower than ANU as Melb city is really popular. Same goes to UNSW (although I'm actually confident of UNSW, but that's another story).

ANU is not the top engineering school in Australia (but they are still pretty good) and they're not difficult to enter at all (with the exception of their gifted Computer Science program which are well, for the gifted). UNSW and Melbourne are the top Engineering schools in Australia and they offer the widest range of Engineering programs, more than any other universities in Australia. If things have not since changed, UNSW's Engineering faculty should still be the biggest in the country.

Im considering to go to Adelaide because the cost are lower and i prefer places with less distraction.

How's University of Adelaide's standard compare to UNSW or UQ?

^ as long as ur in any of the go8 unis and do good while ur there, dont worry about the ability to secure a good job cos at the end of the day it all boils down to how u'll be able to carry yourself during interviews smile.gif but if u prefer a place with less distraction then yes, adelaide sounds just like the place for u.

I heard from my friend that the top engineering schools in australia are UNSW and UniMelb. And UNSW has taken the first spot from UniMelb recently.

There was a ranking for Engineering faculty, but it was for 2005 or 2006 forgot and certainly it was UniMelb and UNSW at the top. Back in 2004, Monash was the top. As of latest I have no idea though.

The latest rankings shows this (surprisingly):
Business & Economics
1. Melbourne
2. UNSW
3. ANU
4. Monash
5. Queensland

But take all rankings with a piece of salt because at the end of the day, if you look at the metrics they used, it can be argued that there are major flaws. Some unis get high average rankings because they have a big number of international students (Monash) and some simply because they dedicate more efforts into research (ANU) and peer exchange compared to undergraduate teaching, which I believe is more important as we are undergraduates. Some even grade unis by their entry requirements, which is completely pointless in Australia because the entry requirements here are based on UAI/TER and their equivalents and are scaled according to demand and supply, not according to the needs of the program.
