QUOTE(haya @ Oct 22 2007, 04:16 PM) Seriously through, if you are in the top 5%, you wouldn't be in this forum. You can try applying for one, but the days of free (or cheap) education are over. When will Malaysians get out of the 70's and move into the future? The reality is, you're more likely to need to get a loan than get a scholarship from a Australian university. Top 5%?? You are aiming very low. Do you think our top 5% is good enough to compete with mainland Chinese and Indians?? You need to be a lot better than that. Remember, either countries has a population size that is 40 to 50 times larger than us. Dreamer |

QUOTE(KVReninem @ Oct 22 2007, 06:20 PM) of course of course, you think Oz uni tis day so generous... Don't expect any change with a Rudd government either. The funding will go to school and TAFE's, not universities. Save for a few European countries, the days of free education are over.with no proper funding from John howard government, the unis have no choice but to seek heavy funding from us, Intl student. QUOTE That is so NOT TRUE! mad.gif We aren't all stupid. Did I say, or even imply that? When I mean the top 5% (or probably less), I mean those who get a GPA of 6.5 and above generally. Most of us will be below that, and yet above 4. Does that make us stupid? QUOTE(vintec @ Oct 23 2007, 08:04 PM) i mean international students, not just malaysian...we pay almost 10 times to what the local students are paying...isn't that alot? Only about 4 times as much actually and that's under CSP (Commonwealth Supported Places, formerly HECS). It's government-funded (cough, international students), but well it's like a part scholarship for them, provided by their government. It is allocated on a competitive basis using TER/UAI scores. There's another group of students, called Domestic Full Fee Paying. These are essentially those who failed to secure a place under CSP, so they have to pay the full amount for university upfront. These students will still benefit as they are often charged less than international students in government universities as unis have the discretion to set the fees. However, this DFFP programme is currently under a lot of controversy as they have allowed universities to take in a lot of students who have entrance scores way below the published cut-offs, especially in popular high-demand courses like Medicine, Law, Engineering and Commerce. It becomes an issue where university entry becomes the domain of the rich, as Go8 universities charge more than their counterparts. In other words, if you can afford it, you don't need the required the 99.95% to enter the most popular courses because the cut-offs usually represent those vying for CSP. QUOTE(vintec @ Oct 23 2007, 08:04 PM) i mean international students, not just malaysian...we pay almost 10 times to what the local students are paying...isn't that alot? i think one has to look at the actual cost of conducting a course. if one assume that the international full fees is the actual cost, then the commonwealth supported places charges a third, and the domestic full fees places cost about 80%.........so no, it is NOT 10 times......... remember, the bulk of unis in oz are public ones, and not for profit, they just need to break even......so you can expect they will not profiteer from you.......even the few private ones like bond and notre dame are basically charity, not for profit unis........any surplus is ploughed back into the uni, and not taken away by shareholders......... the same cannot be said about the many for-profit private colleges in malaysia....... |

lol~ I'm thinking of trying to get a scholar in postgraduate if my first degree is ok. well of course priority goes to local, there are racism anywhere in this world. no kidding. My sis was treated cold when she worked part time at a all-auzzy-and-1-chinese-which-is-my-sister pharmacy store. My sis was left to deal with the cashier, and not teaching her to deal with drugs. =.=
