buy in aussie, chris...pretty expensive ..i`ll buy from USA ...if it is ok..with current ringgit more flowing to US

At the rate the AUD is going through, I think we'd see a almost 1 to one exchange rate with the USD sooner rather than later. Its 0.90 to the USD, and no sign of going down.

Half of my friends who are addicted to ebay are buying like mad.

hiya,

Yeah I agree as well, the exchange rate is getting closer.
Bad for the students here, actually is more like the parents whom are paying for the bills and fees.

On the other hand, good for us whom are working here in Australia. Best time to work in Australia.

Will have a great shopping spree when return home for a holiday.

Cheers

Yeah, but I'm only comparing prices within Australia. Buying from the US is too much of a hassle as it's not easy to swap out DOA items, especially when it's a pricy notebook. At the current exchange rate, isn't it cheaper to get MBP in Malaysia anyway?

if i got to buy a MBP in Malaysia i got to pay them one lumsum, if i buy a MBP in Aussie, my sis can pay installment program, also about the warranty issue i can settle it there for the 2 years studying there.

I should be buying the new version MBP next year. =P

thats why i though of buying most of the hardware here such as LCD, Cooler Pad, external harddisk... to bring it over...

Am i doing the right choice? do let me know if someone got a better idea

thankx...

Probably get the LCD here. It's difficult to carry a 20"+ LCD abroad.
If the instalment has interest, it's not worth it, especially for electronics because they become obsolete too quick.
MBP is pretty heavy and hot for uni use though, unless you only intend to use it at home.

I just want to ask opinion on UOW (NSW) and UQ (Queensland). I am planning to do my master next year. I have applied to many unis in Aussie. This is the two offers that I am interested. My first choice is UQ but the course is 1and half year (parents can only afford 1 year) but the counsellor ask to apply for scholarships. Can I know what is my chances of getting it. Another thing is that, is UQ good for food studies.
UOW i also applied for a food course, I would like to know if the health and behaviour science faculty is good. How is campus life there and any recemondation on accomodations.

Thanks

I'm not in UQ, but I'm in Brisbane, and have close links with UQ. You might like to PM Quacksilver. He will have more "inside info" of UQ.

Generally however, scholarships for international students are hard to get and few and far in between. You might like to look at UQ's scholarship website: http://www.uq.edu.au/study/scholarships/in...57498&pid=56828 and see what is on offer. Mind you, it is not easy to get one. While I can't say for post-grad and UQ, here undergrad Computer Science requires you to have the equalvent of a GPA of 6 minimum (out of 7) in your foundation, or when you're in a GPA of at least 6.5 to be even considered for a partial scholarship and/or bursaries.

Overall, UQ is a very good university. Personally, I would take UQ over UOW, but thats just me. Dont quote me on that!

I would also prefer UQ but it is 1 and half years so parents canno afford. So I will go for UOW if I cannot get he scholarships from UQ. I know it is difficult for inernaional students to get scholarships so my chance of geting it is very slim. I am just hoping only. Finger cross thumbup.gif

i have said this many times, the oz unis now want to MAKE money from you, not give you money.........there are some scholarships around, but they are all merit based, so you really need to be one of the top applicants or students to get it..........

this generation is born 20 years too late..........you parents will have had, or had, free or subsidised education from the generous oz taxpayers...........

So true. You have to be in the top 5% (for CS at least) if you want to get a scholarship.

I find that Malaysians think that Australia is like Malaysia; in that scholarships abound, and its easy to get. Without going into racial issues, that is by and large true. FOR MALAYSIANS. Do you think those China/Nigerians can get a scholarship from a Malaysian instituation easily?

There are many scholarships for most Australian unis. BUT ONLY FOR AUSTRALIAN PR'S AND CITIZENS! You don't have a PR/passport, forgte about it.

Seriously through, if you are in the top 5%, you wouldn't be in this forum. You can try applying for one, but the days of free (or cheap) education are over. When will Malaysians get out of the 70's and move into the future? The reality is, you're more likely to need to get a loan than get a scholarship from a Australian university.

of course of course, you think Oz uni tis day so generous...
with no proper funding from John howard government, the unis have no choice but to seek heavy funding from us, Intl student.
