scholarships from malaysia, or from oz?

the former, mom and pop scholarship most common lah.......jpa, mara, bnm, patronas etc.........

the later, few.........they are NOT in the business of helping you anymore (you are 20 years too late), they are trying to earn money from you, selling you some education and a possible chance of migrating..........

Very general question. There are always scholarships available, its just whether you want to put your heart into looking for it.

you seem determined to do medicine, i would suggest then, NOT to look towards oz, but to uk.........

medical places for international students in oz is going to get fewer, as more universities go graduate entry........and there are VERY few places available, and many taken by foundation students, or malaysian scholarship students on a gov to gov basis..........

i would recommend then to take a-levels, and target uk med schools, there are a lot more places available.........up to 10% of the total 7000 yearly undergraduate med school intake may be full fees paying international students..........cost wise, it works out about the same as a 6 year oz programe.

you can take the a-levels locally, there are lots of colleges doing it, or in one of the many preparatory schoola or colleges in uk.........concorde college has a very successful record of getting students into oxbridge and med schools, except you are now too late for the Dec 2007, and even 2008 entry...........but there are lots others............and it is EASIER to get in, as even if they give you a provisional offer of AAA, it is easier to get that, as the equivalent in oz ter system could be as low as 75 only...........

alternatively, the a-levels will also get you into any of the ipts med schools, like imu, pmc, monash, manipal, aimst etc..........

Taking A levels is good, but make sure you don't get distracted and end up joining the 'bad kids' group, or your medical dream will be crushed.

In my opinion, doing your a-levels/foundation/pre-uni...etc overseas is much better since you won't get pampered that much by your parents. You will have more freedom overseas, but your subconscious mind of spending your parents' money will motivate you to study hard.

Do not, I repeat, do not go into Manipal! It is a pay-my-way-through-since-I-can't-qualify-for-other-medical-schools university. It is seriously not worth your money. You will want a university which is recognised universally(forget about Malaysia if you want a good future).

I'll try my best to go in auz medicine. I'm considering A lvl too but 2 yrs is wasting. I'm thinking of IMU to go twinning too. hi hi. Does A lvl waste time in your opinion? its cheaper by alot. though pampered by parents, I still have the motive to strive =D And yes, I'm pretty determined to study medicine. Its one heck of an ambition but I wanna serve society. ^^

it is not "wasting", and it is not 2 years..........most a level programmes locally is an express 1 1/2 year programme, you start immediately after spm, usually early jan........and finish up in the june exams the next year (the same one the uk students take)............results out in august, and placement in september, and start course in october........6 months after oz (march)...........and in a 5 year uk programme, you will graduate 6 months ahead of people in an oz 6 year programme........ doh.gif

yes, but i'm not intending to go UK, and A lvl is 1.5 yr i know. some uni only takes jan intake for medicine, so the 1/2 yr is wasted. thats why i say its 2 yrs.
