QUOTE(Shinichi @ Sep 5 2006, 09:22 PM) Hi all, want to know if you are only able to choose one job between a job with higher pay and a job that you like (with below average pay), which would you choose? Somewhere in between. Thanks in advance. Meaning to say, I won't get a job that I like but gives me peanut, neither would I want to work for a job that's financially convincing but I have neither the skill sets nor interest in it. Anyway I like my job now and satisfied with my salary |

Anyway the 2-choice poll is too simplistic to reflect real-life factors.Meaning to say, I won't get a job that I like but gives me peanut, neither would I want to work for a job that's financially convincing but I have neither the skill sets nor interest in it. |

I agree with socratesman as its not only those 2 options as in reality as you havent taken into account job location, working colleagues, supervisor and many other factors as it doesnt always come down into those 2 only ie interest and money. I think if thread starter describe a situation he is in would be more ideal

Hi, thanks for all the feedbacks. Was starting this thread to gather what others think and will choose if it comes to just interest vs pay, as it might help me or others when facing such situation. And sorry for the limited poll options

Mine will be interest. Since I always make myself interest in a job that have better outcome in future. So, interest come first before salary.

Mentioning about interest, sad but true that many people don't get to work on what they are interested in. For example, many people like to be fashion designers, game designers, superstar, football player, prime minister but ended up being accountant, sales clerk, programmer, marketting exec etc. (which is not something they really desired, regardless of whether the salary is decent or not)
But luckily, interest is not something that being fixed into your mind since you're born. It is being developed dynamically. And I agree with what nyprinz83 said. Whether you like the job or not is not solely dependant on your interest in the job nature or the salary, but also some other factors like your colleagues, your boss, the environment. So many people actually find themselves reluctant to work in job they didn't really like, but ended up enjoying it |

Well, it's good that if you can pick new interest in the job that you are being offered because of its high salary.

yeah, environment is another factor like some people mention previously.
if you like your job,but your collegue and boss treat you like dog,you wouldn't be happy working too. in the opposite, even though you dont see any future in your career, but you enjoy doing it and the collegue and boss are nice, you will be more happy than the previously mentioned. |

Even though the job is not really your interest, if the environment is supportive enough; from training, facility, mentoring, you might develop interest too.if you like your job,but your collegue and boss treat you like dog,you wouldn't be happy working too. in the opposite, even though you dont see any future in your career, but you enjoy doing it and the collegue and boss are nice, you will be more happy than the previously mentioned. |

for me,job satisfaction speaks first as long as i can survive with my salary. There's a pay floor,if it goes down. Then sorry,i can't do it for that kind of pay.But if there's a better pay and the job doesn suck too much i'll go for it.

The question is hard to answer. If higher, how much higher? 10%?
Interest, how interesting? The higher salary job totally not interesting? Given a job that I really hate but pay high (10-15%), I will rather take the job I like. If it pays 30-50% more, that is something else to consider. |
