Hi all, want to know if you are only able to choose one job between a job with higher pay and a job that you like (with below average pay), which would you choose?
Thanks in advance.
Salary vs. Interest, Which will you choose?

Both. I won't take a my 'ideal' job if the pay is waaaaaaay to low. Neither do I take something that I don't like

If it is so, take it up Option 1. Learn from it and switch job once you found something suitable for you. At least you won't be jobless and gain nothing at all.

QUOTE(Shinichi @ Sep 5 2006, 10:03 PM) I dont really think so , it really depends on how your mind is shaped. Is it money oriented?? or just based on interest? you can live a classy life even if you thrive jobs by interest |

I rather choose Interest ... if you get a job with high pay but you don't like the job descriptions; such as have to work for longer hours or you unable to foster any interest with it. What's the point?

Hmmm let say average salary for Degree graduates is 1.8k, if the job of my interest only offer salary at range 1.3k-1.6k, will it be considered low?

Well let's take an example, the starting salary of a fresh graduate in electronics engineering field is RM 2.3k to 2.5k and I got an offer from a job that I like very much but the salary is RM 1.6k to 1.8k with some allowance, I will choose the latter one.

The job wth higher pay, u 'hate' it or just not ur ideal job.
If just only not my ideal job but still acceptable, i will take higher pay job. and of coz u need to consider both job, which job offers more opportunity when u jump? |

When I was young, and fresh, just came out from Uni, I would definately go for salary but as time grows, you gain more experiences in working and you are able to bargain and demand, the interest of you can begin to take a little portion of it, not more, because at that time you will have a lots of commitment. Hire Purchase, Housing Loan, PTPTN, Insurance Premium, Car Insurance Premium and etcetra.
As time goes by, and your graph is stagnant, can't increase another as you have obtained the maximum, you will look into your interest. You will have excess money ( provided you don't overspend and invest wrongly and other money losing activities), then you will use that money for your interest. Open a small prawn mee shop? Or a florist? For my current stage, interest begins to take a little portion of it already. |

I think in my case the higher salary job might suit me more I think interest is somehow more important, provided you can survive with the salary.High salary, but the work is damn boring and you totally do not have any passion in it. How you develop it as your life career?? And when you no passion, no interest in your job, most likely you wont do a good job. Interest, you like your job, and you willing to dedicate yourself into it the correct way(not by blindly addicted to a PC game, eg). Nothing is wont have much future. The sky is the limit, it is up to how you develop yourself. Then again, when you do your interest in your free time, its fun, when you get serious about your interest, your interest might start gets boring... |

Salary feeds me. No matter how interesting a job can be, if the pay sucks, the job will eventually suck.
Higher salary is your friend. |
