Is the upgrade process long if I do it from a bootabe usb ? how long will it take ?

Its the installation process IMO. A lot of stupid error's. By far the most complicated windows to install/upgrade. If only they could send it the way they did using windows 8.1 through the app store would be so much better.

I think despite the complications/confusion, this method is still better than the Windows Store, which was very buggy/prone to data corruption (happened to my previous rig, games couldn't play etc).

Yes. This is made possible because the W10 activation is tied to your existing hardware configuration (which is kept by Microsoft), so you can clean install on the same device (with minor upgrades) as many times as you like.

i have two PC , w7pro and w8.1home

both upgraded to Win10;

the very first issue observed was application slow-startup --> lockups, even the metro app (settings, update, Edge, file explorer, etc2), task mgr, event vwr, in-game stutter, anmd many more

i reset-ed win8.1home -> w10 PC, still facing the application slow-startup->lockup issue, but not as obvious as before the upgrade

anyone have this issue too? please halp me

Unless you change motherboard or transfer license to another computer then you need to call the customer service right ? Theoretically yes, subject to what MS means by "supported for the lifetime of the device". This could mean that if you retire the old PC, you may need to get a new license key for the new PC.

Normally if change other hardware (except motherboard) should be no issue when clean install and activate right ? Yes, but sometimes if the HDD is changed, you might need to call as well (has happened to me, just explain that the old HDD is spoiled/faulty/dead etc).

the upgrade path has been highlighted many times in this thread. i have no clue why people are still getting it all wrong lol

1. you need to upgrade the activated os first. connect the computer with activated os to the internet, download the iso with the correct windows version for the activated os with media creation tool. extract the iso contents in a folder or just create a bootable usb out of the iso. run the setup.exe in the folder or bootable usb in normal windows environment (not booting it from usb) to do upgrade (the computer must be connected to the internet during the upgrade);
2. once you have completed the upgrade, connect to internet again to make sure the new w10 is activated. that's all for the upgrade.
3. if you wanna do clean install, do step 1 and 2 above first, then boot the computer with the bootable usb instead of windows. you can wipe the os drive clean, and then proceed. when asked for key, skip it and proceed. after clean install, connect the computer with new w10 to the internet and it will be activated automatically. no key is required.

note that for the free upgrade offer, you only need to run step 1 and 2 once (the upgrade), then you can do clean installs as many times as you like, without w10 key, for the lifetime of the device.

Tumpang asking. Is it safe to upgrade through media tool creation? I'm in dilemma whether to wait for the update or i just cut the queue? Anyone having problem in gaming? 

so far this is my issue, mot sure if others got it too or not
