QUOTE(laksamana @ Jul 31 2015, 11:59 PM) From my experience, the upgrade install (even if you select "Keep nothing") can still be a bit buggy, with user profile corruption etc. Best is to completely clean install, booting from the ISO, after the first upgrade. clean install need key or not? or just skip |

QUOTE(kennethkee93 @ Aug 1 2015, 01:33 AM) Do you guys get assigned with generic product key or specific keys after upgrading to Windows 10? The generic key for Windows 10 Pro would be VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T which is the same key used by Windows Insider Program. You can check using ProduKey by Nirsoft. QUOTE(xxboxx @ Aug 1 2015, 08:53 AM) I'm getting the same key as you posted. Is it generic key or due to Win 10 is different the program doesn't able to extract the real key? The program extracted key for Office also different from what I key in when install it. QUOTE(llk @ Aug 1 2015, 09:23 AM) read this"Windows 10 handles keys differently. When you upgrade to Windows 10 via Windows Update from Windows 8.1 or Windows 7, the process registers your computers hardware, and qualifying OS with a Microsoft Product Activation Server. The device is then considered a Windows 10 device." http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider...2f-4b21fbd807a7 |

QUOTE(cactuscch2 @ Aug 5 2015, 08:09 PM) I'm not an expert, just had the experience to perform clean win 7 installation on about 10 PC/ laptop. But sorry I think I'm too dumb I can't understand your guide. logically thinking, u cant use key for win 7 on win 10.. is it?Since C:\ partition will be formatted for a clean install, why should Win 7 or 8.1 still need to perform upgrade before format? If the win 7 is already activated the first day I bought the laptop, isn't it consider official activation already? thus.. win 10 need key from win7/8.1(upgrade) > convert that key to win 10 key > stored into server then only u can clean install This post has been edited by AmeiN: Aug 5 2015, 08:18 PM |

QUOTE(cactuscch2 @ Aug 5 2015, 10:57 PM) That makes sense too. What about this? Yes, should work too..- Format my current win 7 and clean install win 7, - Install all the drivers. - Activate genuine win 7 key, then run windows update to latest win 7 SP1. - UPGRADE to win 10 using the win 10 iso that I downloaded using media creation tool. I know it is double the work but logically the activation should be successful, right? |

QUOTE(chungdavi @ Aug 6 2015, 12:27 PM) Just fresh installed my ASUS N550JK laptop with Windows 10, the windows update installed most of the drivers required automatically. if your computer running fine then not necessary...When I went looking at ASUS support page, I saw some drivers available for download for Windows 10. I see stuffs like BSMI certification, CB certification, BIOS EC firmware, and also BIOS Flash Utility. To be honest those things sounds alien to me, I'm wondering if installing those drivers are necessary? if not, get driver from manufacturer then install |

QUOTE(John Chaser @ Aug 8 2015, 02:51 PM) First upgrade failed. Removed my wifi adapter and the installation was successful. However, upon inserting my wifi adapter it wouldn't detect my home router, it only displays my neighbours routers. Then there's the resolution stuck at 1024 by 768. Not able to change to my native 1680 by 1050. My soundcard was not being detected as well. Restored back to Windows 7. Guess will play the waiting game now. did u try to install manufacturer driver? My PC specs: Phenom II 965 16GB RAM DDR3 1GB AMD Radeon 5850 MSI 790GX Mainboard ASUS XONAR DS 1TB WD Black DLINK DWA 250 |

Try this, resetting windows socket. Press Windows key + X then select command prompt (admin) type and enter these inputs into the console: netsh winsock reset Then, restart PC. Hopefully it'll work |

QUOTE(Cynox @ Aug 9 2015, 09:28 AM) The key you found is just a generic key if you are upgrading. Actually you dun even need to key in the key if you clean install the second time - just skip the input key screen. different case as he clean install to the new ssd.My second installation on activated Windows 10 doesn't ask for key at all during the installation. It will just auto activated. |

QUOTE(Cynox @ Aug 9 2015, 10:39 AM) you sure? I thought only changing the motherboard will require a new key. So if you install it to new SSD, a new key should not be requested, i.e. the same activation code will be automatically used from the upgrade process. hmmm... http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows...vate-windows-10 Hardware changes If you made substantial hardware changes to your PC, such as replacing your hard drive or motherboard, Windows might no longer be activated on your PC. For info on how to activate your PC, see the product activation article. |

QUOTE(Cynox @ Aug 9 2015, 10:49 AM) ok, thanks for the info. Coz Horns mentioned from his experience, changing hard disk doesn't count. i think the same case...we can see 2 options if u dont want to call helpdesk can extract key then install. if u install without key, u cant get activated then need to call helpdesk. need real life situation.. |
