4Mbps user here since April '14. No major problems with good speeds from April-December '14. This Jan, speed deteriorated. Getting 1700-1800kbps download.
Have lodged 5 complaints this month. It's a record...I've never complained so much to TM before!

After 2 of those complaints, SNR became better, speed was normal for a short while (3500kbps or better for approx 6 hrs in one case, and 10 minutes in another case), then deteriorated again to the former levels.

Have changed to new modem, new microfilter, new network cable. Same result as when using old modem, . It takes awhile to connect, with the DSL light blinking a long time, then the internet light being red for a whiles, then the DSL light becomes stable and internet light turns green. However once connected, the line is stable. The phone line when on a voice call is rather clear.

TM technician came to house, checked phone line, then called someone to test my port...they couldn't even see the port.
He then left to check the cabinet. My connect became fast again for 10 minutes today. There was a thunderstorm and power failure. After the storm was over and power came back, the 1700-1800kbps speed also returned.

Don't know what else to do....will have to lodge a 6th complaint tomorrow if things remain as is. Attached below are photos my line stats and speed test. I have a feeling that the cabinet is having major problems. Any insight from network gurus here, or users with similar problems would be appreciated.

I had mentioned the possibility of a miscap twice before. They checked and confirmed that I am on a 4M package and line. I was called today by the TM tech dept in my town, and told to call them directly instead of reporting to the 100 number, if there were more problems. So I'll do just that during office hours tomorrow and I will bring up the possibility of a miscap again. Maybe something in their system keeps shunting me back to a 2M connect. Thanks for bringing that up!

andyng38 : Your case is a higher level one, they obviously wrongly cap your speed in their system. Stress that ADSL speed is just 2048. Prove to them, they will use their own diagnostics tool as well.

I face the same thing before, but luckily the technician is competent and able to fix it with just 1 visit.

Thank you. I will definitely stress the ADSL speed to them and hopefully the problem can be resolved by placing me on the proper cap.

Re: my problem as per post #505

Both of you were correct. TM Tech visited again just now, tested the line yet again, and all is ok BUT I had been downgraded (for no apparent reason) to a 2M package.

If this persists, they will launch an internal investigation as to why I had been constantly downgraded. Speculation by the techie on possible causes are: shortage of 4M ports leading to "port theft" for favored customers, and sheer incompetence by someone assigning ports.

Am currently awaiting to be assigned back to the proper port speed that I am paying for. One thing I must say: TM's staff on the phone and in person are courteous and professional.

My thanks again to both of you for the valuable inputs.

I've upgraded my 1mb to 4mb since January last year.
and after that I been having som problem when uploading stuff to the internet.

usually when I upload stuff I cannot surf any website.. all website will be hard to excess.
this is very frustrating becasue if I want to upload files that will takes 3-4 hrs means I cant
log into other website for 3-4hrs too T_T

also I used to stream my video on twitchtv and livestream when I had 1mb line and never has any problem.
but now I cant even stream anymore. all my game will get super high ping.

this is the ping if I uploaded or do livestream:

Took me 6 calls, and 3 case numbers to solve my miscap.
8M package cap at 8072kbps.

One thing to note, TM speedtest is bull crap.
It measures the burst rate that the server can take. So if somehow traffic jam at server side and it receive a lot of data at 1 time, then it will burst very high. Very easy to detect, just download network meter. Upload rate is normal.
This is how TM is cheating people.

Their Unifi speedtest is ookla based, more reliable.

Did you try to turn off your PC and just do a speedtest via phone?
perhaps something on your PC leeching all the connections causing the high pings.

the high pings only happen if I start uploading or do a live stream.
no high ping if I download stuff.

Glad you could resolve your miscap prob as well. It can be quite frustrating and took a fair bit of effort and patience.

I had used ookla too, and the dl speeds were always 100-400kbps lower than TM's speedtest. I had been preparing a formal complaint to the MCMC, and decided it was better to use screencaps of TM's own speed test in my complaint (less excuses for TM to fall back on)...it had gone as low as 1200-1300kbps at the worst point. Anyways all is well for now smile.gif

I wanted to upgrade, but turns out the cabinet that my port is connected to only supports 4mb max. Dang. Pestered them a bit. And they told me they've put my area in the list for infra upgrade.

Check in the software that you used to do live stream, to limit the connection numbers to 500 or less.
With the 500kbps upload speed, that's the most you can. Some people recommend 350 max connections for optimum speed.

For uploads, limit upload speed to 80% of your max upload speed from speed test.

8M package cap at 8072, or 4M Package cap at 4096 constitutes a miscap.
If you are cap at you package speed, you will never get full speed. This is due to ADSL overhead. Generally, the cap has to be 20% above your package speed in order for you to get Max speed.

It is very hard to convince the techs this. Some CSR knows, but some ignore what you say to them. It used to be that the CSR is able to change the cap for you by contacting some of their internal teams. Now, only technicians are allowed to do it.
