i think better to base at labuan since there alr got one base and its location is the best cos halfway between spratly islands and james shoal. maybe one squadron(3 ships) base at labuan then one squadron at lumut. kasturi and lekiu maybe can relocate to less serious areas(serious meaning less chance of conflict) like kuantan and kuching or bintulu.

but i thot bintulu base was set up as an amphibious base and not warship base

12k construction photo? You mean this? Some speculate this is 12k ton destroyer, but I see it's somewhat rough-looking, not having destroyer-like clean lines, so probably its a coast guard ship.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Defence Ministry hopes to be allocated more funds under Budget 2015 to strengthen security in the country and combat growing terror threats in the waters off Sabah and Sarawak, said Deputy Defence Minister Datuk Abdul Rahim Bakri.

“Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein has identified several key areas that he will be looking at. We want to help the people in Sabah and Sarawak feel more secure,” he said, adding that more assets needed to be purchased and relocated to East Malaysia.

Abdul Rahim said the Ministry was also exploring the possibility of “sea-basing” which would provide commanders the ability to conduct selected functions and tasks at sea without relying on infrastructure ashore.

“We welcome the participation of Petronas in this initiative by giving us decommissioned platforms, where we will be stationing our troops and assets.

“We hope to equip the platforms with all the necessary assets to prevent intrusions,” he said at Wardieburn Camp in Setapak on Wednesday after presenting medals to eight soldiers from the Territorial Army Regiment.

PLA Navy takes delivery of Zubr Heavy LCAC Hovercraft from Ukraine

The PLA has received the delivery of its second Ukraine-built Zubr heavy hovercraft from Ukraine in April 2014. The massive hovercraft, which is the world's largest, has a displacement of 500 tons with a crew of 30 sailors and can carry cargo such as Armored vehicles and supplies up to 150 tons. If no vehicles are carried the Zubr can carry up to 350 infantry soldiers or Marines. It can cruise at 55 knots for a maximum range of 480 kilometers.

The purchase of this Zubr is part of a $315 Million USD deal for 4 Zubr hovercrafts, in which the PLA received its first Zubr in 2013. More importantly, the deal also gives China permission to locally build up to 2 more Zubr hovercrafts under Ukrainian technical supervision.

The Zubr is armed with four short-range SAM launchers and two 6-barrel 30mm gatling-type guns for self defense. It also can carry bombardment rocket to 'soften up' its landing area.
