erm..ok. Then do you think it is viable for Malaysia to build own military things like Indonesia?  hmm.gif

Well, hopefully in future, China will sell their weapons and so on cheap cheap to us.

What happen to our own Malaysian Defense and Security Technology Park in Perak? Maybe current minister just discontinue his predecessor project.
SG & INA already have their own indigenous rifles but we still assembled M4 under licensed.

compare their GDP with us

they are poorer but population wise what's make them a big buyer nowadays

and their nationalism are top notch, which is again why their military budget are stable and expandable

unlike Malaysian here who keep dissing the military when the tahi one is the minister

and you think having local made, design rifle are source of national pride?

I rather have something more proven, well established rifle and have huge services support

hence the M4

if only we adopt SCAR rifle as standard rifle drool.gif

PLA proceeding field trials on ZH-05 OICW system

PLA soldiers field-testing the ZH-05 OICW system

Sources say the PLA is already on the field trial stage of testing on the new ZH-05 OICW system. Details are sketchy and not forthcoming, but it is said that the project has been on the works from 2011 and the first designs originate from 2008. Even the manufacturer is unknown.

The ZH-05 uses a 5.8x42mm round for the assault rifle part and a 20mm 'smart' multi-function grenade for the grenade launcher part. The assault rifle part of the ZH-05 is derived from the QBZ-03 assault rifle, itself a 5.8x42mm version of the Type 081 Assault rifle used by the PLA forces. Meanwhile the grenade launcher part is operated by bolt-action, with the operator manually loading and cocking the 20mm 'smart' multi-function grenade for firing. An advanced priming system can set the 20mm 'smart' grenade to operate as a normal, an airburst or a delayed-action grenade.

The ZH-05 is reported to weigh just 4.25 kg empty and 5 kg fully loaded, with a lot of weight savings due to the manual grenade launching system. The removal of the need for a separate grenade magazine makes the ZH-05 lighter than its contemporaries. The action also simplifies the weapon, due to the hardiness of simple manual loading system when compared with auto-loading system, which has more parts to break and malfunction. The grenade is reported to have a combat range in excess of 800 meters and has a fragmentation blast of 7 meters.

Currently, the ZH-05 is fitted only with a 4x firing scope, but is expected to have more advanced sighting systems available when/if it is accepted into PLA service in the future.

dont related too much for Proton, our industrial level still very low. not much country at world can make ship engine, event china also import from US, Ukraine and German for there war/support ship。 anyway china own ship engine in RnD state. should be ready in 2~3 year more。

Hi-tech assets among defence ministry’s Budget wishlist – Bernama

Published: 8 October 2014

The Defence Ministry hopes the 2015 Budget to be unveiled on Friday will, among others, focus on the purchase of high-technology military assets to strengthen security of the country, particularly in the waters of Sabah and Sarawak.

Its deputy minister Datuk Abdul Rahim Bakri said there was also a need to increase the number of Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) personnel, especially in the east coast of Sabah, because of the intrusion and security threats lately.

"The threats are mainly in that area now. Intrusion took place last year and there are also other security-related problems. Although these (threats) are by  non-state actors, the growing tension in certain areas should also be looked into by the government.

"First, we need to equip our people, especially those serving in very difficult areas, with more boats. The budget to be tabled this Friday will... we hope help Sarawak and Sabah in terms of (strengthening) security."

He told reporters this after officiating at the passing-out parade in conjunction with the completion of the Annual Training Camp 2014 of the Royal Engineers Regiment (RAJD) Line Of Communication, today.

On the Islamic State (Isis), Abdul Rahim said the military intelligence and the police through their Special Branch were monitoring the group's movements in Malaysia.

He suggested that more Territorial Army personnel be recruited to counter militant threats.

"They (military intelligence and the police) are working round the clock in monitoring this group and our intelligence network is also working with the global networks, as we are very concerned (about the Isis threat).

"As you can see, the Isis is now progressing so fast towards achieving its goals. It is not in isolation, but associated with many other groups around the region," he said.

Between April and September 21 this year, 19 Malaysians had been detained for alleged involvement in Isis. They are believed to have been recruited by four militant cells (Khaled Al Waled, Al Jemaah Brigade, Daulah Islamiyah and Arakan Daulah Islamiyah Arakan), to be assigned to Syria.

On September 26, three more Syria-bound Malaysians were detained at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport after being suspected of being supporters of Isis.

Earlier, Abdul Rahim in his speech said that his ministry had identified several of the country's important services such as utility, airport, public  air transport and broadcasting services be absorbed into the RAJD volunteer force.

He said defending the country was the responsibility of all and the involvement of every department and agency was important in facing threats from the enemies. – Bernama, October 8, 2014.
