QUOTE(azriel @ Oct 7 2014, 07:23 PM) Looking at the video is towing the best solution at rough seas? CMIIW, looks like by towing it is forcing the boat to cut through big waves and taking waters to her bow. Better take chance tow it out of the storm rather than leave it dead in the water waiting to sinkSometime huge ass tanker also need tugboat for help avoiding the shore, or else the wind would push us up on the ground |

![]() Shaanxi Y-9 GX8 Electronic Intelligence (ELINT) Aircraft JASDF fighter aircraft snapped pictures the PLA's new Shaanxi Y-9 GX8 ELINT aircraft loitering near a disputed island chain in the East China Sea. The island chain is known as Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China, is a source of tension between the two countries, who both claim the island chain as their own. This variant of the Y-9 aircraft is previously only known from test flights. This is the first sighting of the aircraft made by foreign sources of the aircraft in full service. |

QUOTE(junchuan @ Oct 7 2014, 10:37 PM) why does this look like a luxury yacht This is new trend design for efficient patrol boat with dimension 58x10.5m and just 380 tons,it design comfortable to crew, improve life level at ship, so helping crew working at boat for long time, importance is economical endurance (patrol cost), Cape class endurance 4000nmi, and stay at sea for 28 days, enough to cover strategic area for long time with out go back to re-fuel, no need take long time to reach area. what need to do is planing patrol zone so can cover the EEZ area. we can select more high speed patrol boat like 35~40 knot (Waterjet Engine), but it use double consumption of diesel at low patrol speed, means not fuel efficient(less economic), endurance range reduce 50%. anyway the boat/ship propulsion is up to customer selection, Cape class can select wajater Jet engine for highspeed or Diesel for low speed with economical endurance. in 2012 got new type propulsion Voith Linear Jet propulsion system. maybe very new, take time to become popular The Voith Linear Jet combines the best properties of propellers with the best properties of waterjets. Low installation complexity, low sensitivity to marine growth, sustained high efficiency across the vessels' speed range and high bollard pull are borrowed from the propeller side. Reduced vessel draft, the ability to reach high speeds with high efficiency and low noise and vibration levels are borrowed from the waterjet side. http://www.voith.com/en/products-services/...-jet-40389.html This post has been edited by waja2000: Oct 8 2014, 12:10 AM |

Aussies give Malaysia 2 patrol boats to fight people smuggling – Bernama
Published: 6 February 2014 Australia intends to provide two retired Australian Customs and Border Protection Bay Class patrol boats to Malaysia by the middle of next year, said Australian Minister for Immigration and Border Protection Service Scott Morrison. He said the boats would be used by Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) to counter people smuggling in the region. "Providing two Bay Class boats to our valued partners is a practical operational strategy to stem this criminal trade closer to the point of origin," he said in a statement issued by the MMEA on Wednesday. He said Australia would provide training with the patrol boats which would involve Australian Customs and Border Protection Services officers assisting in the development of MMEA's existing capability. The Bay Class Patrol boats have a range of 1,000 nautical miles at 20 knots and are crewed by 12 officers and equipped with two response tenders capable of being launched from moving patrol boat in most sea states. Earlier, MMEA general director Admiral Maritime Datuk Mohd Amdan Kurish received Morrison at the MMEA office in Putrajaya. – Bernama, February 6, 2014. Tak dapat Cape Class, Bay class pun jadilah. Australia dah banyak bantu kita mencari MH370. Inilah masa untuk balas budi dengan beli Armidale dalam 12-16 buah.... This post has been edited by remyzero09: Oct 8 2014, 08:53 AM |

QUOTE(remyzero09 @ Oct 8 2014, 08:45 AM) Aussies give Malaysia 2 patrol boats to fight people smuggling – Bernama Agree, but should use Cape class as platfrom. Armidale already 10 year ago design, although quite advance actually.Published: 6 February 2014 Tak dapat Cape Class, Bay class pun jadilah. Australia dah banyak bantu kita mencari MH370. Inilah masa untuk balas budi dengan beli Armidale dalam 12-16 buah.... bay class --> Armidale class --> Cape class. Cape class platform is enhancement from Armidale class, it design base on Armidale crew feedback and experiences. “Although only 1.3 metres longer than the Armidales, the 58 metre Cape Class have some 30 per cent more internal volume, provide 33 per cent more range, and retain fuel efficient performance in the 25 knot speed bracket. These are just some of the tangible benefits of Austal’s intellectual property, design capability and excellence in aluminium shipbuilding,” Mr Bellamy said. (copy from net) if APMM use than not much change, but if RMN use, need to change more system like add 25~35mm gun at front of boat, communication etc. just check again price is $50 million each cape class This post has been edited by waja2000: Oct 8 2014, 12:53 PM |

PLA Navy aims for 100 Houbei-class Type 022 Missile Fast Attack Crafts
![]() The PLA has aimed for the deployment of 100 Hubei-class Type 022 Missile Fast Attack Craft by the year 2020. The Type 022, designed in 2004, is an advanced trimaran-hulled fast attack craft with a reduced radar cross section due to its stealth design features. The Type 022 is developed from a civilian fast ferry design from an Australian naval engineering firm. The Type 022's trimaran design has been very successful in shallow water operations due to its shallow draft and wave-cutting capability. The Type 022 uses water turbine propulsion technology with thrust-vectoring waterjet, making the craft extremely nimble with a top speed of 40 knots in all sea conditions. Currently 83 units are in service with the PLA Navy. The Type 022 is armed with a 6-barrel 30mm gatling-type gun, a FLS-1 SHORAD SAM system and the capability to carry 8 missiles, either Anti-Ship or Land-attack cruise missiles. |

QUOTE Indonesia keen to have strong military might in next decade English.news.cn 2014-10-07 22:41:43 by Abu Hanifah JAKARTA, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia, the largest country in Southeast Asia region, is keen to see its military might having significant deterrence effect among Asian countries within the next ten years following intensive and continuous efforts to modernize its military equipment. After being hit by severe economy crisis since the late 90s, Indonesia has started the efforts to modernize its military along with high growth the nation has achieved in the last five years. Indonesia designed a grand strategic plan (Renstra) to develop its military by enormously acquiring new warplanes, tanks, helicopters from several countries. Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said that through implementation of programs in the Renstra, Indonesia will become a tiger among Asian peers. "We have conducted modernization on our main weaponry system and would be continuing until 2024. At that time we will be an Asian tiger," President Yudhoyono said in front of thousands of troops in the nation's naval airbase in Surabaya, East Java on Monday. The president is in Surabaya to witness the military's show of force in its 69th birthday on Tuesday. President Yudhoyono has initiated implementation of the Renstra in the last five years of his administration. The Renstra was aimed at complying with military doctrine of Minimum Essential Force (MEF), to be conducted in three five-year periods from 2009- 2014, 2015-2019 and 2020-2024. The government has allocated some 150 trillion rupiah (about 12. 2 billion U.S. dollars) to finance the first Renstra ended in 2014. During that period Indonesia acquired warplanes from Russia, South Korea, Brazil, Germany to improve airworthiness of its air forces' fleet whose many planes have entered their decommissioned ages. Indonesia also set up billions U.S. dollar-worth of cooperation with South Korean aviation agency to jointly produce 4.5 generation fighter jets of KFX/IFX, expected to join into service with Indonesian air forces in 2020. Besides that, the government also purchased 150 Leopard Main Battle Tanks (MBT) from Germany and planned to acquire advanced AH- 64 Apache helicopters for its army. For the navy, Indonesia has purchased new frigates from foreign producers. It also set up cooperation with South Korean shipyard to jointly produce submarines. Indonesian president-elect Joko Widodo said that his upcoming government would continue and further the efforts to modernize the military, adding that it would be possible as Indonesia would see increasing growths in the coming years. "I already said that the economy now is quite good and we may see growth above 7 percent. Allocation for the military can be increased two to three times higher," Widodo said on the sidelines of witnessing military's show of force in Surabaya on Tuesday. Indonesia has allocated some 83.4 trillion rupiah (about 6.8 billion U.S. dollars) for the military this year. Widodo added that besides improvement of weaponry system, efforts to improve professionalism in the military must also be addressed. source |
