That's a big miss mann. There's a part where you really need HUGE subwoofers to give you earthquake. Not many ppl have that at home.

The Three Musketeers (1993)

Well, I have not reviewed a 1080p for quite some time now and I find myself surprise, I am writing one now?

Why?

Well, this is probably one of my all time favorite Musketeer movie.

The stars (literally and figuratively) somewhat aligned and the gem of a movie got made.

Who is in it?

Well,

Charlie Sheen - Aramis
Kiefer Sutherland - Athos
Chris O'Donnell (Gosh, were we ever THAT young) - D'Artagnan
Oliver Platt (When he still had a.... waist... tongue.gif) - Porthos
Tim Curry (Ah... the snake in Eden...) - Cardinal Richelieu
Rebecca De Mornay (*Woof, Woof*) - Countess D'Winter
Gabrielle Anwar (ingénue drool.gif ) - Queen Anne

All perfect in their role.

Story, rip roaring fun.

Direction, great.

And this is the first time I saw this in HD, the transfer is GREAT! Was done in Technicolor. This runs rings around the The Man in the Iron Mask (1998) transfer hands down.

Beautiful production, coupled with a beautiful transfer. Can one fall in love with a movie, a second time?? laugh.gif

Please do not even get me started on the terrible The Three Musketeers (2011)...

There is hope that we may see The Jungle Book (1994) (Jason Scott Lee), finally making an appearance on bluray/HD yet.

I humble submit to you, my two sen.

A Quiet Place

PQ=1080p
SQ = Atmos*

*The irony of a silence movie needs atmos.

Emily Blunt's acting prowess is commendable nevertheless.

1991-1997... there was were 6 bestseller films titled once upon a time in china or 黄飞鸿, directed or produced by tsui hark.

#1-3 and 6 starred jet li while $4-5 starred vincent zhao.

well, 20 years later, vincent zhao decided to make a comeback with unity of heroes.

it's very much a remake of the movies, particularly #4.

u get to see vincent zhao still doing his kicks and punches, 13th auntie, leung foon, demon leg 7, etc.

but it hasn't got much else.

i doubt it will sell well, but it's not a bad idea to watch - for wongfeihong fans. biggrin.gif 2.5/5.

Pacific Rim: Uprising (2018)

Okay... I braced myself for the worst and found myself... mildly entertained...

I am getting ahead of myself again

Did this movie exceeded the first one?

No.

The first is edgier, so, more universally like.

The Good
1) The Pacific Rim universe is expended
2) How the Kaiju came back to our world is actually quite creatively done
3) The new cadets (under used) were actually fun to see
4) John Boyega was decent as Jake Pentecost
5) Alot of fuss were targeted the Kaiju this time round (too Ultraman, I believe the complain was about) and have to add, I actually did not mind it.

The Bad
1) Again, the Chinese are so... two dimensional (I'm am Shao Liwen. A Rich/Powerful industrialist. Hear me roar....)
2) Raleigh Becket (Charlie Hunnam) isn't even mention?
3) Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi) is back... for THAT!??!!

The Ugly
1) Scott Eastwood... He looked so out of place here (again... He seems out of place in most of the movies he is in...)
2) Like the first movie, "Darn, is THAT how they are going to end this??"

So, I liked 65% of the movie, the other parts could have been done better.

Steven S. DeKnight (director) said a third installment is planned if this makes money...

Well, I guess we will never know what happens next...

PQ and AQ really quite good.

My Two Sen

Mary Magdalene (2018)
Director: Garth Davis
Cinematographer Greig Fraser (Zero Dark Thirty)
Stars: Rooney Mara, Joaquin Phoenix, Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Mary Magdalene has always been a vague figure in
Christian teaching and has long been misidentified as
a prostitute. This drama sets out to revise this myth
by putting Jesus of Nazareth's most famous female
follower back at the heart of his story.

Mary(Rooney Mara) starts out as just a young woman
from the Magdala fishing community. She rejects the
love match made for her by her father (Denis Menochet),
She flees home for life on the road with his small band of
followers after attempts to flush out the demon in her.

Missing is much of Mel Gibson’s passion.
The agonies of his Christ in Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ,”
for what seemed like weeks whizzed through in less than five
minutes in Mary Magdalene.

But still a worthwhile one.

ready player one is good.

a spielberg syfy-fantasy film, he said it's the second hardest film he'd made - after saving private ryan.

it is apparent that this film is difficult and expensive to make with all the cgi, special effects.

critics seem to dislike too much homage paid to 70s and 80's pop culture but i did not find it excessive.

i would say for a film with so much cgi and special effects, it is the best one since avatar 2009.

based on a novel, the film is said to be an improvement on it.

in some ways it is a bit like tron 1982.

will watch it again in 4k when available. 4/5.

Just re-watch an old fantastic documentary Samsara in 4K HDR and it was amazing! especially the new transform HDR color tones.
The 4K HDR Blu-ray is not release yet but probably soon as this title just upgrade to 4K HDR in US iTunes.

watched "the making" of ready player one - about 2 hours in total - book writer, spielberg, selection of actors, studios, special effects, audio...

amazing, fascinating... more complex than matrix, LOTR, avatar... how they made this film...cost $175 miilion.

i give it 4.5/5! rclxms.gif
