To AVFAN: Starship Troopers Invasion (2012).. Not bad also...  thumbup.gif
*
thanks for headsup. will check it out. din realize there is a 4th one!
the first one 1997 was excellent.
i din like the 2nd and 3rd movies, can't remember much...

also...

amazing spiderman 2 is.... poor. 2/5.
too long drawn with petty scenes,, little suspense.
cg overdose, jamie foxx can't act or sound like a villain!
while we can be sure there will be amazing spiderman3, i'm not looking forward to it given the first 2.
i like the original spiderman1-2-3 trilogy 2002-2007 better.

Watched Locke last night. Surprisingly even is it's only Tom Hardy driving his bmw and talking on the phone for the whole damn movie it's amazingly good.
*
still thinking if i want to watch this...

yes becos it's tom hardy. no becos it's unlike other movies...

i can think of 4 similar ones...

phone booth - colin farrell in phone booth, little else
buried - ryan reynolds in a coffin, little else
all is lost - robert redford on a boat
gravity - sandra bullock in a spacecraft but with george clooney

what next? one person movie... on a bicycle, on a tree branch? biggrin.gif

Got 1 movie quite similar with Buried, I can't remember the title. The movie not bad...
Wrecked (2011) - One man show.
127 Hours (2011) - One man show.
*
ya, i remember that one, think it's 127 hours - about a mountain climber falling and trapped under rocks. the whole 2 hrs shows him under the rocks...!!

wrecked... can't remember if i watched it.

godzilla.... worst movie of 2014.

should be called darkzilla.

becos first 80% of the movie is in 80% darkness, can't see much. last 20% in 95% darkness.

you can will fall asleep in the last 25 min.

ya, power blackout, nuclear clouds, sunset, nightime.... but bad for movie.

unlike, say battleship or pacific rim, all is bright, all aliens, spacecraft, monsters in full color and bright. tongue.gif

thread quiet... must be becos currently, a dearth of blockbuster movies...

meantime, i hv 3 concerts to recommend - if the music genre suits u:

air supply live in hong kong 2013
the 2 aussies are getting old, all white hair but can still croon and woo the romantics.
the concert hall looks cheap, nothing much to look at but the music captured is good.
1980's reminiscence, love songs, pop-rock.
in dts hdma, bass a bit heavy, test yr subwoofer.
overall, quite a blast for 100 mins.
user posted image

sarah brightman dreamchaser world tour 2013
brightman looking plump but still the grand soprano.
this concert hasn't got all her lloyd webber's greatest hits but time to say goodbye, neesun dorma and phantom of the opera are there.
most striking in this concert is the impressive use if laser lights and a stage size curved screen as background.
in dts hdma.

zz top live in montreux 2013
texan trio of husty hill, frank beard and billy gibbons continues.
as usual the longbeards rock like they always do.
all familiar songs - la grange, tosh, got me under presssure, etc.
dts hdma, play loud!

Reboot "The Bourne" smile.gif

ya, been a dearth of movies for many moons. bourne... i never get tired of watching bourne 1-2-3-4! biggrin.gif

since lousy godzilla, a couple of good ones have arrived:

edge of tomorrow, a syfy flick. the idea of time travel and resetting timelines is not new, been used in many movies incl timeline 2003 and stephen chow's a chinese odyysey pandora's box. edge of tomorrow just has a diff setting and purpose. tom cruise is good, as usual. effects are reasonable, dtshdma audio is good. 3.5/5.

transformers age of extinction. rotten tomatoes gave it 18%! no great drama to expect from such a movie, but i somehow like it, maybe becos of mark wahlberg rather than lebeouf. all the bots come with slightly changed outfits but recognisable. great action like the 3 predecessors, superb audio with ddtruehd. 3.5/5.

now, wait for x-men days of future past and dawn of the planet of the apes ... probably the last two good movies for the year.

Watched edge of tomorrow last week. At least a good movie with real ending.  I like watching movies with actual ending not like the lord of the rings or similar hate the 1/2full stomach.

i just read... edge of tomorrow is adapted from a japanese manga called all you need is kill. wow, hope the japanese will make a cyberpunk movie/tv series with it like ghost in the shell and appleseed! biggrin.gif

You guys have a lot to learn. TPB and KAT sucks 99% of the time because the movie encodes uploaded on there are absolute junk..
YIFY encodes suck..

Of course I will not come in here and just say this to you guys without giving you a better solution! RARBG is currently the best (it used to be Public-HD until they went MIA) if
you want to download from public trackers. Otherwise, look into private trackers, they are the best place to get your stuff.
*
publichd and rarbg relationship.... i din know that, thanks!
actually, tpb n other generic search engines also contain many publichd or rarbg links, so ok.....

*
yes, u will need to follow the last few movies to get all of it, especially the history of the characters wolverine, Charles n magneto.

well, its up to the users to choose which to have. some ppl go for the highest quality but some are only looking for decent sizes. in TPB, I found both. its about the sources and it is up to users to choose.
*
fair comment, valid.
however, as time goes by n if one is still dwelling in this past time called watching movies, the mode of procurement evolves.
low grade ones, 1-2 Gb, don't even need to dl, just stream online with android or other devices, watch n forget! 30-50gb ones, ok, get, watch n collect them! tongue.gif

anyway, think enough... we shud talk about the movie and not the procurement as that is a forbidden/taboo subject, dun wanna get thread closed by moderator... still, we understand every now n then someone will ask "how and where".... laugh.gif

currently watching this movie. such a good review in IMDB (score 8.2)

this movie also got 80% from rotten tomatoes. so, if u like romantic comedy, it shoud be good.

talking of ratings, how do people go about deciding which movie to watch?
i usually look at rotten tomatoes, will consider if >60%, more so if the genre is what i like.
if a movie belongs to a running franchise like transformers, x-men or jason bourne, lower rm rating doesnt matter!
i usually do not read much into imdb ratings as i find it too generous.

how do you guys go about it?

x-men days of future past is excellent. another great bryan singer film. as good as the last one, x-men first class. both original and young characters all come back, incl iceman, jean and cyclops. 4/5.

Agreed. I still decided to watch it anyway because I was bored and wanted a movie to watch. It was a good movie for a quick watch, fun and exciting, even if you do not know the history of the X-Men movie universe and it's characters.
*
ya, the movie reaches back to the previous movies on a few things, esp the relationship between charles-magneto-mystique and wolverine-stryker.
get hold of all 7, watch them all! biggrin.gif

1.1 X-Men (2000)
1.2 X2 (2003)
1.3 X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)
1.4 X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)
1.5 X-Men: First Class (2011)
1.6 The Wolverine (2013)
1.7 X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014)

how to train your dragon 2 is not as good as the prequel.
the first 30 min or so was slow, took too long to get to the core of the story.
and it somehow comes across as copying a little too much from avatar - the flying movements, colors of wings and even the floating mountains.
overall, still very watchable. 3/5.

i robot is definitely one of the best syfy movies ever made.

three laws of robotics or asimov's laws... isaac asimov 1942:

A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
A robot must obey the orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

biggrin.gif

anyway, i just watched hercules 2014. 2/5, poor. poor story, no character building, no suspense. pure crude force and smashing! rock johnson and john hurt failed to bring this movie up. same poor job as legend of hercules.

frankly, better save the money and get this one - expandables 3! thumbup.gif

just watched it in 1080p but non hd audio. may just get the bd when available...

the thing about this movie is it's like a party of old friends coming together... so, if you like good old fashion 90's action of sylvestor stallone, jason statham, arnold schwarzengger, harrison ford, mel gibson, wesley snipes, dolph lundgren, this is it. add a bit of jet li, antonio banderas, robert davi... bruce willis is the only one that was obviously missing. 3.5/5.

i see this franchise continuing as stallone seems to able to attract all the old action heroes and promoting some younger ones. he might just get jackie chan and tom cruise in the next one!

i m not much into drama but this one is good, recommended.

boyhood is a coming-of-age drama movie, supposedly filmed over 12 years with the same actors/actresses. as the title suggests, it is about kids growing up, not always in the most favorable environment and circumstances. very realistic, well portrayed. young adults and parents alike should like it. stars ethan hawke. 2hr 45min. 4/5.

i just watched this automata. disappointing.
while the idea is fine, along the lines of i-robot, the plot started ok but went astray quickly.
few surprises, many loose ends, poor ending. 2/5.
maybe as a syfy fan, i expected too much...
