paradox 2017 is actually SPL3.

SPL, SPL2 and SPL3 are unrelated although they are of the same genre, share common actors and directed by wilson yip who also did the ip man trilogy.

in the same tradition, it is an angry cops vs hardcore criminals - gory, plenty of fist fights, knives and guns.

stars louis koo, wu yue with tony jaa as guest.

it is not as good as SPL or SPL2 but is good enough.

perhaps what is missing in this one is a great main fighter like donny yen or wu jing or zhang jin.

still, great action movie, action directed by samo hung. 3/5.

Alyosha (Matvey Novikov) a shy and unhappy 12-year-old boy
who is the basic cause or symptom of their relationship’s collapse.
Sobbing silently behind door, the boy listens to his parents argue
over who will be saddled with the child that neither wants.

And when both parents are out of the house having sex with their
new partners, he goes missing.

A search for their missing son is quickly organized,
an effort that ends up taking Zhenya and Boris on a painful
road trip to visit Zhenya’s mother.

The movie is not about how the search for Alyosha that brings Boris
and Zhenya closer together, or makes them stop hating each other.
It is about a child was left unsupervised and the mother coming
home at night and assumed that he was in his room.
And didn’t bother to check in on him.
An epic instance of neglect.

Outstanding performances and a remarkable film.

Thought of watching the prequel first, but imdb scores warned against it. Same, should have listened to reviewers of the sequel and skip this. But didn't have anything else and felt it might be good cuz my man Iko Uwais is in it. Okay, on to the movie.. Best thing about it was the fight scenes with him and the other fast-moving Asian actor..plus finding out that Iko's English has improved a great deal.. Rest of the movie? Well, my HM described it felt like a video game.

What I want to talk about here now is the HD version of this movie.

Fantastic transfer

The picture quality and sound if excellent.

Although the book took place in the 1980s... the movie brought the time line to 1990s.

The details are amazing (picture and sound)

Definitely is reference for me.

I missed this movie, when it was showing in the theaters.

I could have gone and have add, I am prejudice against war movies.

Having said that, what I have managed to watched it recently, on HD, again, picture and sound quality is off the charts.

no, the sequel will be for 2019!

i watched IT 2017 (2 hours) followed by IT 1990 (3 hours).

i'll say the new version is good, incl a creepier pennywise.

we'll wait for the sequel and see how it ends - i expect the filmmakers to give it some twists to give it more punch as i think the 2nd part of the 1990 version will not make a good sequel. we'll see...

and surely, the ddtruehd/atmos audio plays it all up! 3.5/5.

one thing... if u like this IT, u will surely like stranger things (season 1, 2) tv series. i somehow felt this series was somewhat inspired by IT.

As for the new Pennywise, the actor Bill Skarsgård (brother of Alex Skarsgård) is such a good looking and charming person, but his channeled the creepiness of Pennywise so magnificently... Very little CGI, mostly practical effect (makeup really, even that really creepy smile...)

i realize they are sons of stellan skarsgard, one of my favorite actors!

battleship island 2017 is a korean period action movie.

it's about forced labor on a japanese island in 1945 just about the end of ww2.

the story is said to be historically fairly accurate, with the island now a unesco heritage site.

this movie is one of the best korean movies i hv ever seen.

war, riots, disaster, family, survival, treason, guns, knives, molotovs... and a little humor.

enjoyed it, 3.5/5.

On Boxing Day....

this is one movie i hv waited for a long time... maybe since 1982!

blade runner 2049 is a sequel to blade runner 1982.

the original was a philip dick (minority report, total recall) story, directed by ridley scott.

this new one is directed by Denis Villeneuve (sicario, arrival).

stars ryan gosling and harrison ford (from 1982 movie).

i find this movie excellent - no so much action but a very special "futuristic" feel.

the story is good, great cinematography.

as the film is a sequel and very loyal to the original, one MUST have watched blade runner 1982 to like it.

the script and direction took pains to bring back what was shown in the 1982 one - the characters, costumes, effects...

and... a superb job bringing back "rachael" (sean young) like they did with peter cushing in star wars: rouge one.

i watched it in 1080p dd5.1; will watch again when 4k dtshdma is available next month. 4/5.

Watched for 15 mins, decided go sleep.....

Anyway, can't seem to find Chasing The Dragon.. any help?
