thanks for heads up!

it is a good movie, definitely as good as if not better than gravity. 4/5.

in many ways, it reminds me of the others - interstellar, the martian, red planet - zero-gravity fire, space docking, etc.

the story is based on the soyuz t-13 mission to salyut 7 space station in 1985.

russian audio, chinese/eng subs.

i watched it in 1080p dtshdma, excellent.

Professor Marston & the Wonder Women (2017)
Director-screenwriter- Angela Robinson
Stars- Luke Evans, Rebecca Hall, Bella Heathcote.

This is not a superhero film.
It's a great period drama with brilliant acting and an interesting story to tell.

Inspired by true events and portrayed as being accurate.
The film takes place in the early 1940s, tell the story of how the world-famous
superheroine came into being.

Begins with Dr. William Marston (Luke Evans)
forced to defend the Wonder Woman comics in front of a decency board.

During Marston's testimony, the story flashes back to 1928 where Dr. Marston
is a psychology professor where he lectures and researchers with his
wife, Elizabeth (Rebecca Hall).

They meet a beautiful and young student Olive Byrne (Bella Heathcote)
and hire her as their assistant on one condition.
Elizabeth asks Olive not to sleep with her husband.

The trio form their own version of an all American family
(one man, two women, children with different mothers)
and do their best to get on with the neighbors.

Beautifully cast.

dearth of movies at this time....

so...watched this geostorm.

the cast is good - gerald butler, jim sturgess, ed harris, andy garcia.

a critic called this disaster movie a movie disaster! biggrin.gif

enough action and pyrotechnics but lacks the thrill of a good drama or the visuals of the better syfy space movies.

directed and produced by dean devlin who partnered with roland emmerich (stargate, 2012, independence day, resurgence) in the past.

watch only if u hv nothing else to watch. tongue.gif 2/5.

I watched this AT THE CINEMA on, what I term now as disaster Oct 26, 2017....

And to add salt to wound, I watch this before Thor: Ragnarok, another MAJOR disaster...

Geostorm seems to be a disaster from inception to to finished product...

I really don't know what happened to Dean Devlin & Roland Emmerich (Independence Day: Resurgence (2016) anyone...) or maybe with age, I getting... jaded... tongue.gif

Let's hope for a good 2018 movie watching experience.

The Snowman (2017)

Norway...

Where extreme cold weather is... a way of life.

Having said that this movie, like it's plant life/weather, is rather... slow...

Things takes time to grow...

The story, characterization, the revelation... they all take time.

But having said that, the reveal is rather.... satisfying.

Why?

Because of the time it to reveal, you are... invested.

Moral of the story?

Patience my young padawans... tongue.gif

Suspiria (1977)

Director Dario Argento... I have only ever watch another movie by him, namely The Cat o' Nine Tails (1971) and both movies are... unique.

Being labelled (overseas anyway) top 50 horror of all time, how can I miss it?

It is very different from movies I am used to watch.

Europeans (he is Italian) has a difference sensibility to movie directing.

Having said that, this is what I term as "gore" horror.

In the vein of... living dead.

But it is not about zombies.

It is about witches.

Going back to my term of, Europeans have a different sensibility to movie making, the approach seems to be, not explaining things. They will show you thing with no explanation and you as a viewer is suppose to just accept it....

In a sense, thinking about it, Shaw Brother's Hex (1980), shares this approach...

The HD transfer is actually gorgeous. Showing off the Dario Argento's vision of primary colours, shamelessly.

We may find this approach old fashion now. But think about it, emphasizing one primary color without awashing the rest of the image.... Not so easy, especially all the "effects" done on the movie, are all practical.

American actress, Jessica Harper, turned down a Woody Allen movie to do this (looking at his troubles now, if may have been a good decision on her part).

What I would say about Suspiria is that you will not forget it once you have watched it.

Not for the faint hearted, that is for sure.

Did I like it?

I think I need a little time to process the movie, still (watch it during the weekends...)

First of a trilogy. May give part 2 and 3 a go, if I can find them.

thor: ragnarok is the best of the 3 thor movies.

star studded - Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Tessa Thompson, Jeff Goldblum, Mark Ruffalo, Idria Elba, Anthony Hopkins.

rather simple story but plenty of action, special effects and wonderful colors... makes it a "great cosmic adventure". 3.5/5.
