Hi, just wanna confirm with sifus2 here.

Is Pennzoil = Shell Helix? Cuz I see both also using this "PurePlus Technology" thingy. So kinda guessed, or I'm wrong.

Anyway, Im on the crossroads of picking Petronas Syntium 5W-40 or the Shell counterpart.

Using the notoriously thirsty Campro engine. Or do you guys got any recommendation? I'm open to all / any engine oil, janji original and good. Thanks all~

Try lower down the viscosity. Is campro engine capable to take 5w30 or 0w30? If can believe it will improve the fc a bit. Most new car since 2015 onwards was recommended with 0w20 to get better fc.

But using office Campro CFE engine, yes fc is too poor especially on daily city drive.

only parallel imported Pennzoil with pure plus = shell helix ultra with pure plus
you can find those at Ace hardware or parallel importers

local UMW pennzoil is just normal locally blend non GTL (gas to liquid, pure plus is the marketed name)

This. Buy those Pennzoil imported from US, someone sold it in Lazada, shopee. On of the Fully synthetic Pennzoil Ultra Platinum was reviewed as on of the best.

And agreed the local blend Pennzoil is not the same as imported from US.

I see I see. Parallel Importers meaning like Tesco / Giant as often mentioned here? Btw, I never known that Pennzoil is sold here locally. Probably didn't come across official distributer in Malaysia yet. Always bought my oil from SC or Petrol Station nearby. But figured out its literally burning a hole in my pocket.

@ayamxxx
Can you forward me the seller's Lazada link here or PM? Scared of fakies around the market. Thanks man appreciate it! But if its equivalent to the Shell Helix Ultra that is often mentioned here then I'd probably go get the Shell.

On the other note, nope, the Campros you mentioned are those post-09's 10's and so on one. Mine is the base, most basic Campro model a.k.a the baseline "out-dated" Campro. As per manual, it says to take 15w-50. God knows why. But i've used 5w-40 with no issues never tried the 5w-30 before. Scared to go too thin, as you know, Campro....

Shell owns the Pennzoil company.
Shell launched the PurePlus in 2014 under its portfolio, but Pennzoil first used it in their Platinum line.

I see I see.

Meaning to say that, they both share the same tech, and essentially buying Shell Helix Ultra, is like buying the Pennzoil Ultra with Pureplus la.

Can I dare say they are the same oils and perform the same too? Since, Shell is parent company to Pennzoil ma.

No. It's just the base oil that's similar.
Not to mention the additive package.

Maybe not identical but should be pretty close. Anyway the SHU in promotion at Giant for under rm100 is an unbeatable value for money. You won't be able to get the Pennzoil version or any other oils with that level of performance at such low price, they will typically sell for almost double or even more.

Recent review of SHU 5w-40 purchase on Shopee Tesco showed 'Made in Hong Kong'.

Safe to assume SHU made in Hong Kong also original.

The only online oil purchase I dare to try was only from Vanli. I don't dare to try other sellers cuz no idea if genuine or not. With Giant already giving such good promotions, I don't feel the need to buy online oils at all.

Same here. My favourite Vanli products i bought is Mobil 1 0w20 or 5w30, where 5w30 come with 4.7L bottles pack. My car need 4.5-4.6L per oil change.
The 0w20 need to buy package of 5 x 1L bottle

Don't like his tone in 1 and 2 stars reviews.

Vanli is availabe on Shopee and Lazada too.
Maybe you can try, since 6UE5T vouch for it.

Update : Got my oil from Vanli, and just poured. I can't say much about the oil. Aside from... it just works. Haha, Maybe gotta drive it for a bit more.

Cheap, economical, can't argue with the price. =) Might try other brands in the future like Amsoil, Redline and stuff. Those barang2 performance.

Thanks all for replying

Bought Helix HX8 from paulhew.. confirm it is original.. The oil is so pure that I had difficulty identifying the oil level through the dipstick.

I also bought Nissan oil, Petronas Syntium many rounds from him and all no problem.

Actually Paulhew I think is EC Auto spare parts shop located in Batu Caves area.

You heard only.. so far been using oil bought from Paulhew for years. Actually, his price isn't the cheapest but still a lot cheaper than retail.

All cars at my home, the engine are still running as smooth as silk.
