your engine not the engine oil. both 5w-30 you sure oil level drops with castrol? or was it you/mech who did not fill it full to begin with.

Shell - they do not last 10k km. For sure.. by the time you hit 5k /6k  you can feel your engine turns sluggish. Rough drive. I have to always make sure to have Shell go with at least Mos2 from LM.

Go for "x"w-40 oils if you think oil level are dropping. try brands like LM, Torco and Wruth. You will immediately feel the difference.
*
I always check oil levels after service each service. Was full, 5k later notice drop in level with Castrol. With Shell no drop in level.

Recommended for my engine is 0/5W-30. As such I do not wish to change. My oil change is 10k as recommended by engine manufacturer, did not feel any drop in engine performance or quantity with Shell. Mine is a 1.6 turbo.

For sure there are better brands, but found difference minimal, don't think its worth the extra cost IMO! Maybe good if one constantly redlines the engine, which I don't!

Stop using Shell Helix if you can opt for other brands like Liqui Moly, Wruth, Torco. Even if you want to get those big brand names you should be going for something like Castrol. Saying Shell is good... ahem very obvious it's not.

what is the SAE grade of the Perodua semi syn oil?
If you change from xW30 to xW40, definitely can feel less vibration, regardless of brand.

Most engine oils with the same specifications (same weight, synthetic type) performs the same.

Check if API-SN, then followed by Manufacturer's approval.

Like ACEA, ILSAC or Manufacturer spec (Eg:Mercedes) fill.

If two different brands of oil withe same rating, like

Shell Helix Ultra 5w40 or Mobil 1 5w40.

Both should perform similar. Even there is any difference, it will be no more than 1%

The additive is different. and that's what made them better. LM ceratec, MoS2 those are the additive which will smothen your ride by miles. Pouring the engine oil out from the bottle itself differs. They are greyish dark color engine oil and some are green in color.

You very observant, yes the santa fe was let go since family situation no longer require another car to be maintained. Hope the new owner knows how to maintain it. Sometime still see it on the road and have a weird tinge of nostalgia.

Additive is different but the base makeup of these additives are the same. They all buy from a handful of suppliers

Pouring engine oil from the bottle would never tell you how good an engine oil is. Color does not make any oil perform differently, that itself is an additive to make the color

Neh, i don't think that the person even know what HDEO actually meant....but not my problem anymore....hope the owner knows how to rein in the accelerator pedal to avoid too much oil consumption.

Technically, PCMO also fine for light duty diesel engines, as long as use euro 5 diesel. Looking at the specs of API and ACEA, the wear margin is actually a little bit tighter compared to HDEO, so technically "should" protect the engine a little better than HDEO.

But i'm planning on pouring HDEO into my petrol engine next year anyway tongue.gif Thinking of the UHP.... sweat.gif
