Zalman flower NB hsf (forget the model name) at RM38 should be a good buy. Decent performer and affordable.

I'm new to this northbridge cooling concept as I've been using AMD prior to this.

What would be considered an acceptable temperature for an OC/Overvolt northbridge? Not more than 50'c at load? hmm.gif

The thing is, my motherboard right now is an ABIT AW9D-Max. laugh.gif
You can't check the NB temperature on the ABIT AW9D-Max motherboard liao. sweat.gif

Ok, just installed my HR-05 SLi and tested it on my system. Very complicated indeed as it really clashes with alot of things especially with my Noctua on the SB.

Tested the idle temperature of my NB using the same thermal compound as previously - AS5. This is the result i have obtained :

DFI Stock Cooler - 54c  shocking.gif

Noctua NC - U6 - 48c

TR HR-05 SLi - 45c

Keep in mind i am no expert tester. Just installed it as what i always do and look at the idle temperature. Load wise, i did not test it on my Noctua so cant really comment. Seems like the TR is working better for me. Might be slightly due to the HSF facing the fan of my GC. Impressed by how it performed and the size..
Anyway, on my P35-DS3 with stock NB heatsink, the NB temp is 42'c under orthos...... brows.gif Only one fan blowing indirectly at it. Naked rig though... whistling.gif

I am getting better temperature on my NB and SB after applying 2 side panel fans for them. They are now idling around 2-3c lower than usual and i am already quite happy with it..LOL..

Eh? Using high performance heatsink didn't check on it's performance???......

Just interested to know as I want to compare to my stock NB heatsink. On my naked rig, the highest it would go is 44'c. When I put a fan to blow on it, it would drop to 38'c.....

I'm still new to this concept of NB heatsink as I was using AMD64 prior to this....

LOL...Not really remember the performance of it though. But if you would ask me in comparison with stock NB hsf, the Noctua & TR is at least more than 5c cooler than it even on passive mode.

If you're looking at those two models, HR-05 will perform better than the TT extreme spirit.
This is because the ES [extreme spirit] has a very thick base which will slow down the heat transfer, plus, the fins of ES is too small, which will affect the heat dissipation.

While for HR-05, the base is at a good thickness.
Plus the fins of HR-05 is larger thus will improve the heat dissipations.

Eitherway, no chipset cooler can beat the performance of Noctua NC-U6.
It's the king of chipset cooler. thumbup.gif
