... Eitherway, no chipset cooler can beat the performance of Noctua NC-U6.
It's the king of chipset cooler. thumbup.gif

That wouldn't do any good.
Trust me.
Maybe just 1-2 degrees better than the old HR-05, but certainly not better than the NC-U6. smile.gif

High performance fan for the NB HSF?
Think again, high performance fan will give so much vibrations.

You don't want vibrations on your NB HSF.
Why?

Because most of the NB chipset nowadays [except for X38 chipset] has a naked die, they don't have any IHS, which the area that can support the base of the NB HSF is too small.
And when vibtration happens, heat transfer will be even worse if you compare it to when you're using a low speed fan. smile.gif

Been there, done that. smile.gif

i think active cooling is better than passive but if too much vibration can lessen the efficiency of heat transfer no less than hware damage, u wudnt sacrifice the mobo just for the sake of cooling the NB.IMO get the best NB cooler money can buy strap a decent fan on it VOALA!!!!

Original Design Of Thermalright HR-05 IFX before they reduce the heatpipe to using only one U heatpipe.
Stupid move from Thermalright. vmad.gif

user posted image

Look carefully under the tubes, there you'll see a NB heatsink with 2 U heatpipes.

Damn, if they were to go back using 2 U heatpipes for the HR-05 IFX, this would be the greatest NB heatsink in the history. vmad.gif

Can't achieve perfection I guess, since there's always clearance issue for chipset cooler ..

It's hard to increases the number of heat pipes, fins wideness and height as well without running into compatibility issue ..

I don't do funny assumptions, i make assumptions based on my experience.
I talk with my experience when i'm using NC-U6 with a TMD 70MM fan.

Shim pad?
Used it, but it's not working. rolleyes.gif

I'm using NC-U6 stock mounting, push pin that is, any idea how to get a better mounting rather than the stock mounting?

Jingting?
I'll google for it.

By the way, the chipset heatsink from zaward that you linked sure is weird.
The most weird chipset heatsink i ever see. sweat.gif

How's the Zaward performance? The 4 screws on the base would likely to cause bad contact especially to chipset with IHS?

i've always been using the stock cooling for the chipset biggrin.gif ...maybe i should get an aftermarket cooler...using it with WC would be ok, but with aircooling...like 120Ext, xigmatek 1283 or even noctua, not sure of the clearance thou...
btw, does the chipset has the IHS (other than x38), i tot it's bare naked! rclxub.gif

Nope, X38 is the only chipset in the world that has IHS covering the die. smile.gif

boss the shim pad works.. how the hell u knw got vibraions? u holding it kah? even have it wont damage teh core...

and this is thru my experience... plus to get mounting pressure , neveer heard of screw nuts and bolts ah? simple only... cost u less than 2 bucks... : rclxub.gif

bro can u confirm this? i can easily prove u wrong... go and buy a dfi rdx200 and open up both nb and sb, both have ihs... ... and most of ati chipsets have an ihs, or rather a shim all round the core.... research properly next time.... also there have been many server chipsets with ihs,( though not for the consumer market...)

I'm talking about vibrations that will coz less heat transfer, i didn't talk about damaging the core.
Find a post of mine where i talk about damaging the core.

Yeah, i may be wrong about the screw and nuts, but i'm not using em, i'm talking about the stock mounting retention.

I may be wrong, and you may be cleverer than i, but you don't have to be so harsh in talking to people.
What's wrong with talking politely to others?

Does it cost you RM100 to talk politely? shakehead.gif

Added on August 14, 2007, 3:39 pmbout the stock mounting system.. teh springs are there for a reason....
