Just wondering, by comparing side by side, which one is a better buy?The Noctua NCU6 or the Thermalright HR05?

My cousin is considering between this 2 and would love to know in term of performance which one is better (considering that the price are almost the same)?

the thing is that not everyone can go for the noctua.
due to new VGA's which are getting longer, and longer, it might be a tad bi of a porb to fit one in
a very good example of a person in this situation is me.
cant seem to use it with a 7950 gx2 sad.gif what more a 2900XTX ><

hmmm, good point there, so in ur case, the HR SLI will fits rite laugh.gif blink.gif

wah, planning to go for Radeon 2900XTX drool.gif why not goin for GeForce 8950 GX2 brows.gif itu 7950 kasi tambah 1000 lg la laugh.gif

8900 GTX = 128 + 25% more shaders = 160 shaders rclxub.gif
8950 GX2 = more than 160 , maybe 200 shaders rclxub.gif rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

ouchies. off topic jor.

well, i personally i love the the noctua, just that it cant fit only.
thats why i probally have to settle with the HR-05
well, i got my little hands on a coolermaster aquagate (not the mini one. this is the one that slots into the 2 front bays of ur pc, and its built for cooling down cpu's), but im planning in modding it to fit my chipset, considering that if it only cool the northbrige, i would not need such a powerful watercooling system biggrin.gif

This is the problem that had been for my cousin. The VGA (a mere 7600GS is already being block by the Zalman Flower. He had to twist it sideways on his DFI board but now, when he wanted to change the stock VGA cooler, it seems to clash with the Zalman. He had been looking alot on the Noctua but it seems does not fit though..Maybe the only choice is the TR SLI..

I'm not going for anything, as i can't fit any kinds of chipset heatsink in the DQ6 as there's stupid heatpipes here & there. sweat.gif

u cant actually...as dq6 has that stupic cooling pad on the underside of the board with propreiety mounting, so its a bit dangerousrs....i think... but welll shawty u can always buy the board the c whether can fit or not...

I already have the DQ6 in my hands.
Been looking it for 2 hours.

It's not about the cooling pad under the board.

It's the heatpipes!!! vmad.gif
All those heatpipes are connected to the mosfets, pwms, northbridge and southbridge.

How the hell are you going to remove the heatpipes?
Yes, there's only one way to do it, how?
By cutting the heatpipes!

But i'm not going to do that, as by doing that will void the warranty for my motherboard. sweat.gif

But hey, i've thinked of one simple solution.
Fix a 40mm fan on each of the heatsink together with the PWM & the mosfet heatsink.
And i'm going to replace all those thermal pads and thermal paste under the heatsinks with AS5. smile.gif

I hate those heatpipes. sweat.gif

lol..i thought the main attraction on that particular board would be the heatpipes..Anyway, would the NCU6 perform better than those heatpipes?

u can remove the heatpipes inlcuding the crazy cool, its removable and u can stick it back later, so wont void the warranty.

yeah.. just remove those crazy cool and all the heatpipes.. then put on better nb cooling there. for sb, normal heatsink will do just fine and for pwm, small ramsinks are more than enuff biggrin.gif

How?
The thing is, the heatpipes are welded to the southbridge, the northbridge, the pwm's and the mosfet heatsink.

If i remove the it, that means i have to remove all the things that is connected.
And by doing this, i won't be able to cool down those hot pwms & mosfets. sweat.gif

The northbridge & southbridge chipset heatsink can be replaced with 3rd party heatsink, but, how to deal with the PWM's & mosfet? shocking.gif

im no expert but u see the white pins/knobs nearest nb, sb and pwm.....use a needle nose plier frm the back and push it out, i think the pwm's uses some sort of thermal tape so u have to use a blade of some sort to gently scrape it out....actually after running that board, i think the stock heatpipes are quite well laid out....compared with the Asus commmando.....the dq6 is 1-2'c cooler...and unless youre going for max oc, i thnk the stock heatpipes are more than adequate for mild oc with maybe just a fan over...again im no expert just my thots.
