can you even afford FF in the first place?
*
yeah.. FF camera and the latest sel1635z lens is within my budget but I only use on travel and random shot smile.gif so the camera size and weight is the problem.. not really a hardcore photographer even my camera gear dealer asked me to stick with ASPC. I'm just curious about FF camera and Lens.

Well, its impossible for a brick wall to become curved anyways. No matter how good or bad the craftsmanship is.

To be fair  - brick walls will not show the minute distortion but neither will windows too and it too can have defective workmanship and alignment/ stress issues during construction.  Test charts are the next best way to go if you want to be really picky. But that too can distort unless you get it printed on linen or vellum paper.  Cant win can we if you aspire to be close to absolute.

It is not an issue of intention but characteristics of the lens with that focal length.

Fish eye and UWA are two different products. you can get reasonable straight lines down the middle of the lens with good (compensated) UWA - about 11mm on a SEL1018 lens.. Fish eye will only give you straight horizon in the middle anything else beyond is curve.

But both classes of lens will give you pincushion effect..

As a matter of comparison.. very few lens will give you a total flat focal plane and very few were ever made.. Lens like the older A1 50 mm micro nikkor is among the few reputable lens capable of giving that and used extensively in the old days for accurate flat table reproduction.

It is in the physics of light bending/ lens design that it will bend due to longer distance light has to travel at the outer edges and are also contributing factors of why these lens are so expensive or get soft edges and all sorts of shortcoming for some.

True, fish eye is not everyone cup of tea and the good lens quality ones will burn big holes in the pocket. UWA is a lot easier to use but poor/deliberate placing of especially human can turn them into instant rubberperson or giants among peers in group photo.

You can post process correct some of the lens defect but that is another story.

Best you know your hardware limitations and use it to for its ability.

That's definitely caused by lens distortion. So in this case of saying is it viable to use a brick wall as a guide, then yes, it can.

As for fisheye, it really depends. Some ppl can pull it off pretty well. Some just over do it.
