Thanks so much benny888.

You have been a great help!

To echo benny, just flash a KitKat ROM.

The only readily available 4.2.2 ROM is the Western Europe B003 if you ever want it.

Links are all in page 1.

Thanks Joytest.

I will download the B003 and keep it just in case I upgrade to kit kat and want to downgrade back.

Your compilations of information about the Huawei X1 is very very helpful to all x1 owners.

Hi cphilip.

Usually X1 owners feel the device a bit mor fast (or less laggy smile.gif ) with Kitkat than with Jellybean. But they miss the native 320 dpi. You can anyway set manually the DPI.

On the other way, if you want some real add-on while upgrading, you should upgrade to last chinese ROM (B011), with stuffs like per-app dpi settings. And morever the Kang-VIP custom mod of this B011, which add more features (split screen). Chinese rom just need to install manually gapps.

Let us know if you want to try out , to give you some links to guide you through install.

--

BTW, last european 501L ROM is B103 and not B102, and the last released official roms for 501L are:

B017 Malaysia, 2015-4-17:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-med...01lb17-t3077607

B009 Taiwan, 2015-3-6:
http://consumer.huawei.com/tw/tablets/supp...tw.htm?id=39041

B103 Europe, 2014-11-4:
http://consumer.huawei.com/ch-fr/support/p...fr.htm?id=33626

And as benny888 said, you'll see no real différences beetween them!

Thanks for correcting me about the latest European rom. It is indeed B103 and not B102.

If I do upgrade, I think I will most likely be considering the latest Malaysian Rom since it has been pointed out that there are not much differences between the available Kit Kat roms. I wonder why in my device, OTA update is not detecting any new updates. Is it because I have rooted my X1?

After reading through many pages in this thread and in the xda forum, I am a bit concern about the issues of

1. 400DPI display
It appears that many owners are not fully satisfied with the 400dpi although there is a way to change to 320dpi by Deleting or renaming "set_immutable.list" and by editing the "build.prop."

2. the rooting methods for latest kit kat rom of the X1.
(I could only download vroot 1.7.9. My pc blocked me from downloading vroot 1.7.8 because it labeled the file as a threat. Also, I don't read chinese and the vroot program is in chinese I believe.)

Now that Huawei has finally released the kernel sources for the X1, I don't know if there will be some custom roms coming out for this device. Before owning he device, my mind was focused on reading positive points for the the X1 and it is true that the X1 is indeed a great hardware of its own class - Smallest 7 inch with great battery and other useful features.

After owning the X1, I realized that Huawei is not very good at listening to customers and very slow in providing updates of firmwares to keep up with what Google has made available. Yes, there are things that I loved about the hardware of Ascend Mate 6.1 and the Huawei X1 but I think I will try not to be tempted by Huawei again for my next device even though the hardware features might be out of this World impressive. No point in supporting a company who is only happy with their own abilities to create interesting hardwares but not interested in taking care of customers on the software side.

Stay far away from HW products if you are interested in software updates. This is based on my experience using Mate 6.1, X1 n Mate7. Msian versions are often extremely slow to receive updates. Example Mate7 euro n China sets had already 4-5 updates while it is still zero for Msian sets
Consolation their firmware is pretty solid n stable
I had tested latest firmware from Euro on Mate7 n again I am unable to see any significant difference
Don't bother with what other user say about dpi..can never understand what they are complaining about. Is perfectly fine for me
Just flash latest euro version if software update is important but than as said I find it pointless to do so

I agree about HW and their updates.

However there is a distinct UI difference when the DPI is switched. For something with such a large screen, you should be seeing more (ie lower dpi) rather than less (higher dpi). Waste of good screen real estate.

It appears that many owners are not fully satisfied with the 400dpi although there is a way to change to 320dpi by Deleting or renaming "set_immutable.list" and by editing the "build.prop."

Yon can modifiy build.prop indeed if you are root:
1)Root
2)Install busybox
3) install terminal and enter commands
> su
> mount -o rw,remount /system
> chattr -R -i /system
4) Delete or rename / system / set_immutable.list [set_immutable.list.old]
5) add following lines to build.prop " qemu.sf.lcd_density=320 " and " ro.sf.lcd_density=320"
6) reboot

Modifying build prop will unenable later update to install on your X1. So, I advice the ADB method, which does not neeed root:
https://plus.google.com/u/0/+AndrewJohnYoun...aFhduFeM?cfem=1

BUT if you install chinese B011 (as you seem to like software updates, I advice you to do that), you'll have a dpi-setting feature for third party apps.... which should be enough. Except if you dislike the 400 DPI framework itself.

A moderator on a huawei board announced a lollipop for the X1. If it's true... you might turn back to Huawei again wink.gif:

Djiban,

Thanks for the helpful post regarding

# methods of changing DPI

# methods of rooting Kit Kat

# ROm b011

Regarding my confidence in Huawei, I will have to wait and see how Lollipop for X1 will be like.

I have good experiences with Sony Xperias and now I like Sony even more now because Sony has become very open, friendly and cooperative with Custom Roms developing commnities like Cyanogenmod , Omni, and others. They are not afraid of letting others scrutinize their kernel source code and improve on it.

Personally having used lollipop in one+one, Nexus6, Note4, XZU ( custom rom) n S6 edge I still prefer kitkat
This latest firmware is full of issues
I had since downgraded back to kitkat wherever possible
Just google n you will find lots of discussions on the issues
So don't expect too much of it even on X1

Hey all

Looking to get a 7" tablet and really considering this device now due to the neat compact form factor. Second choice is the Asus memopad 7
Primary usage is just for daily internet surfing and watching videos

Is it still a good buy now(1+ year product), probably looking for a used set

Thanks.

The screen on the X1 is a lot better than many other 7" phablets.

Connectivity is also superb and better than the Samsungs I have.

I recommend the X1 and used should probably go around 600+

Thanks for the feedback bro.
Do you know what and how's the latest available stock MY firmware? Performance-wise, lags?

I'm not into the flashing stuff. Just wanna use it as it is.
I'm use to iOS's smooth interface btw. Just that there's no JB these days so theres way too many limitations.

The stock EMUI interface should be sufficiently iOS-like to suit your taste. Latest is B017 I think, check a few posts back.

If you use the stock launcher and interface, it should be smooth and nice. And since you just want to use it, then it's a totally suitable large-screen consumption device.

Yes, Huawei X1 is definitely a great device to use as a portable Tablet with 7 inch screen, good resolution, great battery, external microsd support and reasonable camera.

The screen is a 7 inch diagonally measured which means it should be the same size screen as the Nexus 7. This I am saying although I haven't really compared the Nexus 7 and the X1 side by side to see if the screen is indeed the same size.

I do like the device very much. Thanks to people like benny888 and Joytest who shared many useful information about this device. You can definitely trust their opinion when it comes to what is available in the market because they have not only read much and also experienced much with different devices.

Been using the X1 for a few weeks since I got it. Overall its been a joy to use and can actually replace a phone if you don't mind the size. For a 7in it has much smaller bezels than Nexus 7, decent front and back camera and good battery life. I use a HTC One M8 for more practical things like making phone calls, social media and when I browse the net and watch multimedia programmes always go to the bigger X1. It also backs up as my travel phone with the simcard slot when I'm overseas.

Using 2 phones it allows me to go several days on 1 charge and it may turn out to be a better solution than a dual sim phone if you are a heavy user.

The only con I notice is it is not as smooth as the HTC M8 but hopefully with some ROM upgrades it can be improved. I'm using the European B103 ROM.

So, I guess this thread will be quiet for a while until Lollipop 5.1 comes for Huawei x1 sometimes in August and September.

Even though the kernel source for x1 is released, it is sad that no one is attempting to develop lollipop 5.1 custom roms ahead of Huawei's official Android 5.1 rom for this device.

Well, guess we can enjoy what we have at the moment and can meet up again in this thread sometime in August or September.
