Xiaomi unleashes the Mi-3, you pick Tegra 4 or Snapdragon 800
Xiaomi has revealed its MiPhone 3 (or just Mi-3) at a product event in Beijing today, just as previously expected. As recent rumors suggested, the device is powered by either a Tegra 4 with four Cortex-A15 cores (for China Mobile) or a Snapdragon 800 with four Krait 400 cores at 2.2 GHz each (for China Unicom). The Xiaomi Mi-3 will cost RMB1999 ($327) for the 16 gig model and RMB2499 ($408) for the 64 GB. The device will go on sale in China in October, after which it will start selling across Hong Kong and Taiwan. No word about the rest of the world, though.
The Xiaomi Mi-3 The device is very slender at 144mm×72mm×8.1mm and weighs only 145 g, has a 5" 1080p IPS dislay, Android 4.2.1 skinned with MIUI v5 and covers imaging needs with 13 MP and 2 MP cameras. We've seen previously seen a pre-release Mi-3 with a Snapdragon 800 do really well on AnTuTu. Here's the promo video of the Mi-3.
In case you have missed it, Xiaomi is the Chinese manufacturer that poached Google's VP for Android, Hugo Barra. He has already taken up his duties as a VP of Xiaomi Global this week and attended today's launch event. Here's a picture of him all happy in China.

Xiaomi Announces the MI3 - Tegra 4 and MSM8974AB inside by Brian Klug on September 5, 2013 2:58 AM EST
Xiaomi has been making some interesting news lately, first with the abrupt transition of Hugo Barra from Google to Xiaomi, now with the announcement of their latest high end smartphone, the MI3, at their New Product Convention 2013 event. What was interesting about the MI2 announcement last year was that it was one of the first to include Qualcomm's quad core APQ8064 SoC inside, and Xiaomi has included Qualcomm SoCs since the MI1 (MSM8660). I still remember my first experiences with the Xiaomi MI1 and the value prospect that the device made me realize existed with the right set of conditions, and how impressed I was with that hardware. With the MI3 Xiaomi goes to variants based on both Snapdragon 800 (MSM8974AB) and NVIDIA's Tegra 4 platform.
The WCDMA (China Unicom) and CDMA2000 (China Telecom) variants of the MI3 come based on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 MSM8974AB platform, while the TD-SCDMA (China Mobile) variant is based on NVIDIA's Tegra 4 platform.
Xiaomi makes the first (to my knowledge) public disclosure of MSM8974AB, which is analogous to the changes we saw between APQ8064 and APQ8064AB. From 8974 to 8974AB, Adreno 330 GPU clocks climb from 450 MHz to 550 MHz, LPDDR3 memory interface maximum data rates go from 800 MHz to 933 MHz, and the ISP clock domain (I think Xiaomi might mean the Hexagon DSP here) goes from 320 MHz to 465 MHz. 8974 comes in both a bin with the 4 Krait 400 CPUs clocked at 2.2 GHz (really 2.15 GHz) and 2.3 GHz (2.26 GHz) with slightly different pricing, while 8974AB comes with a Krait 400 clock available only at 2.3 GHz. Process is still TSMC 28nm HPM, but I suspect that the AB variant might have the high k dielectric and/or transistor mix tuned slightly differently based on a few rumblings I've heard recently.
It's safe to say that Tegra 4 hasn't been the overwhelming success that NVIDIA had hoped for, nor able to continue the momentum that Tegra 3 built, so winning a slot with Xiaomi MI3 is a relatively big deal, even if Xiaomi's slice of the Chinese market isn't very large yet. The TD-SCDMA variant includes Tegra 4's 1.8 GHz ARM Cortex A15 4+1 architecture with 72 core GeForce GPU built on TSMC 28nm HPL. We've written a lot about Tegra 4, and got a chance to look at performance in the NVIDIA Shield review and came away impressed with performance in that platform. Of course the real interesting question is how Tegra 4 will perform in platform with smaller TDP and available platform power. Xiaomi claims relatively similar performance between Tegra 4 and 8974AB variants in a few system benchmarks as well. If we get the chance the MI3 might make for an interesting vehicle to compare the two SoCs in almost the same platform.
I'm not sure whether the MI3 uses the discrete Icera i500 modem for TD-SCDMA. i500 is fully TD-SCDMA enabled, so there's no reason that NVIDIA couldn't have won the entire platform slot, but I haven't confirmed it yet. Update: We've confirmed that the MI3 isn't using the i500 modem.
Either way Xiaomi is an increasingly interesting player in the Chinese market and always seems to make SoC choices that interest us.

Xiaomi MiPhone 3 will come with either Tegra or Snapdragon processors by Aloysius Low | 5 September 2013 3:37pm SGT Xiaomi's latest Android handset, the Xiaomi MiPhone 3, will come in two flavors. Buyers can choose to either get the Nvidia Tegra 4 model, which sports a quad-core 1.8GHz Cortex A15 processor, or the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor clocked at 2.3GHz.
Most of the other specs are the same for both models, such as the amount of RAM (2GB), internal storage (16GB) as well as a large 3,050mAh battery. The Xiaomi MiPhone 3 will sport a 5-inch full-HD IPS display with a pixels-per-inch count of 441ppi.
Xiaomi is also boasting that the phone takes really good pictures with its 13-megapixel camera. The camera uses a Sony sensor and sports an F2.2 aperture, a wide angle of 28mm and a five element lens setup. It will also pack a dual-LED flash.
The Weibo account of the company posted a picture of image samples with very impressive looking shots that you can see below.
The Nvidia-based Xiaomi MiPhone 3 is set to launch with a price of 1,999 Chinese Yuan (US$326). The Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 version is set to debut with China Unicom and China Telecom while the Nvidia Tegra 4 model will launch with China Mobile. It will go on sale starting September 9 in China.

Xiaomi unveils new Android-powered 5-inch MI3, 47-inch smart TV in China HD By Richard Lawler posted Sep 5th, 2013 at 3:23 AM 66
We've had early previews thanks to leaks, but Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi -- more recently known as the new home of former Google exec Hugo Barra -- just took the wraps off of a new flagship Android phone and smart TV. The MI3 candy bar phone is available with either a 1.8GHz Tegra 4 processor (on China Mobile's TD-SCDMA network) or Snapdragon 800 CPU (the more powerful MSM8974AB variant; on China Unicom's WCDMA network and China Telecom's CDMA2000 network) that provide a 40 percent performance boost over the MI2S. It also sports a 5-inch 1080p IPS LCD built by Sharp or LG with "ultra sensitive touch" that works even when the user has wet hands or has gloves on.
Seeing how its local competitors are putting emphasis on the audio performance, Xiaomi pointed out that the MI3 features the Cirrus Logic CS42L73 DAC chip, which is apparently what the iPhone uses. Another surprise is that there's also Immersion haptic feedback, which adds some rumbling fun to games and certain UI elements. As for the cameras, the backside has a 13MP Sony IMX135 sensor with an F2.2 sapphire lens and dual LED, while the front side has a less exciting but adequate 2MP camera. Interestingly, MIUI's latest camera app will support RAW capture, as well as smart beautification by identifying the gender and age of the subjects in a shot.
Other bits of the phone include 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM, 16GB for storage (with a nice 120MB/s read speed), dual-band WiFi and NFC. Given the 8.1mm body thickness, the 3,050mAh battery is quite impressive (and the included charger provides fast charging with a 2A current), but only time will tell how well it lasts under those beastly processors. As for the price, the phone runs CN¥1,999 (US$330) for the 16GB version and CN¥2,499 ($410) for the 64GB, though only the China Mobile version (Tegra 4) has a mid-October date. Following the announcement of the MI3, CEO Lei Jun also decided to keep the 32GB MI2S (with Snapdragon 600) at a reduced price of CN¥1,799 (US$290), which is quite a drop from the original CN¥2,299 (US$380).
Xiaomi unveils new Androidpowered 5inch MI3, 47inch smart TV in China
Moving on, we have the 47-inch 3D-capable Xiaomi TV which is assembled by Wistron (who apparently also makes TVs for Sony), and it'll come in six colors for the aluminium faceplate. The body boasts an 8.4mm bezel plus 2mm to 4.8cm thickness thanks to LG's IPS and Samsung's SVA panels. Like the Xiaomi Box, the TV also runs the company's MIUI flavor of Android, supported by a quad-core Snapdragon 600 with 2GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, dual-band WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0. It even claims an "easy to use" remote with 11 buttons and Bluetooth. Shockingly, the TV will cost just CN¥2,999 (US$490) when it arrives in mid-October. [/spoiler]

I'm only based on my using experience, trial and error and with some courage to test out the great features available for mi3. My review is just for the sake of reference and shall not liable to any bias and untoward incident.

no lah. we should not deprive the freedom in voicing out their mind...however, gentle reminder...pls behave and post relevant and vital info only...for those who spam, i know you guys know who is it...pls report his post and mod will take action...
Autolink not working anymore.. Asking for verification code. Need to press the buy now button manually. Then a screen will say waiting in line.. If you pass the waiting in line screen, means you got it. Or else it will say out of stock.
Website is much much better than when they first started one month ago.. No more lag.

You'll know if you visited their courier service warehouse or simply ask the deliverman.

They wouldn't have to worry, they already have very strong fans base.

You can monitor the tracking order. When it arrive to Malaysia, then u can call to fedex or ups to self collect. Then no shipping issue

I did the same mistake last time. Contact the chat support, they said they said system is automated so they cannot amend but will try to settle the issue with courier.
They never updated the change on the website, but 1 week later I received the parcel safely (addressed with correct postcode).

i think the courier got keep previous record if u purchased b4.. i also type extra postcode, extra +60 for the hp number, extra state, etc.. nothing to be worried bout it.
Seriously, since a lot of people complaining this thread moved too fast, why not you guys create another thread, specially dedicate for Xiaomi online sales? Any problem with buying Mi3 or powerbanks online, you guys can go there.
I believe the cost to make the phone is less then USD150 or RM500
Sell the unit at RM769 - RM500 = RM269. After u take away the shipping and etc. Net profit will be around RM200 per unit.
RM200 x 7000 = RM1.4M net profit for sales that last then 5 minutes.
If they have sales 4 times a month. RM1.4m x 4 = RM5.6M net profit per month and this is just from Malaysia.
And dun forget the sales and profit of powerbank.
One thing have to admit, Xiaomi really good at marketing and creating the demand. The more people complain, the more people want to buy. The duration of each sales is getting shorter.

Why don't u offer to pay back RM 769 to all the 7000 who bought the Mi3 to gather & show u their Mi3 ? offcoz u need to pay transport & accommodation, which shoild be few millions ringgit to prove Xiaomi is bullcrap about 7K units sold ?
QUOTE(andrekua2 @ Jun 17 2014, 12:33 PM)
Its all because of the price drop... no price drop, I dont think will sell like this.
Apart fron 1st sales which most have no idea how to buy or not aware of it, those previous slaes aslo gasab within few minutes even price at RM 889.

but why china phones love android 4.2 ha?
I don't know, my Mi3 come with JB 4.3 out of box (1st batch).
U mean your come with JB 4.2 ?? or U actually never own Mi3 but simply post according to hearsay ?
from the item details, it listed Mi 3 Micro SIM Card Adapter Metallic Gray. So shud be using MicroSim right.
But i read from last version of mi3 tered, got users report sim tray prob? So shud I cut it into Mini sim or Micro sim?
it use normal mini sim but got micro sim adapter tray for those who already have mircrosim. if ur sim is now mini sim just pop it into the normal tray.

No need micro sim adaptor lah ! Mi3 already come with 1 micro sim tray & 1 mini sim tray, just insert which ever sim u have & good to go.
i use micro sim that comes from digi instead cut by people.
Works flawlessly.
thx bro for confirmation.

just to ask, do xiami malaysia provide 1 to 1 exchange if the unit faulty/bricked on arrival? or need to wait 2 weeks return back and 2 weeks to reach us?
summer sale, means like for at least a month. even Maxis set has a price drop. Good luck to scalpers
but then again, you are stuck with their contract, which some might find troublesome. Total payment about RM901 (inclusive of pre-payments). Ok-ish la if you are really dying to own one without the online rush-sale hassle.

What I mean is with old price 889, Maxis price = 389 now price drop, new price, 769, maxis price = 269
for me, Maxis knows the price will remain at 769, or lower in the future.
1. Downloaded http://en.miui.com/download-101.html#164 Dev Rom - to tell the truth i forgot to wipe cache and data terus flashed - came back on alot of google services force closed or stopped uexpectedly. Play was there but cannot work. - wipe and try again, noticed keyboard gone - not too happy with the fc here an there - used Mi Market to download the google packages
2. Decided to download the international rom and flashed it http://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/4-6-6.24524/ - but it is 4.6.6 - had issues with google+ and it tried to update Play Services but fail - issues with network, not sure if it is coverage issue or due to my limited internet package since i subscribe 1 gb only - office kiam siap no wifi so cannot test - had some issues with mi key and the mi cloud SIM card query clashing when phone booted up (note to self, remove mi key when performing flashing) - mash up of account / contacts micloud and gmail had to use number fixer to fix accounts as well to streamline
3. Updater noted 4.6.13 available - decided to download the update from http://en.miui.com/download-101.html#164 and then updated it as well - google keyboard redownloaded and installed ok - restoring apps - testing google camera with no issues
4. Noticed that if you use the default ringtone and you get a call there is a delay before the sound emits. - perhaps i usually use a custom mp3 i did not noticed this - anyone noted this ?
5. Performance, did not notice any difference just yet
6. Noted an additional app Assist appearing and the configuration of the buttons were catered to google now
Finally settling down and retesting.
If i cannot tahan maybe return to MY ROM

Since they do not have sales center here, only service center, they might check what is the problem and revert back to you. Unless the QC is that bad they do not even turn on and test the phones before shipping out.

HAAHAH true but quality is definitely maintained and controlled up to standard otherwise they don dare to sell on their official site. like xiao mi soft case, i got one for my sis and quality is superb. i wont give a second thought of buying another one if i wanted to.
No wonder.. my 1st applied SP in the pack was so easily scratched like some cheapo SP. Then i applied the 2nd one in the pack, the SP worked like a charm.. very peculiar indeed
Did they stated it anywhere in the package about the 'practice' SP? or i missed it somewhere? lol.

i also managed to grabbed one early today while using my company network .. certainly fast enough to access the site but i been at the site since 2 hours back keep refreshing.. so no login issue at all.
Goto Download-Settings, then set the Data usage to Unlimited.
mhlee thanks i think that did it, originally i disabled xunlei but it seemed to be reactivated which caused me to have issues as the limit is 1 MB no wonder stuck
Exactly. Anyway, the original Mi 3 Flip Case (Rm36) and the Soft Case (Rm25) quality good?

yup.. just like what [ychlee] said. casing that sell on their official site is good quality.. no doubt...
even in China they selling quite expensive as compared to TaoBao...
But still thousands of people buying it... because the quality is good and have some standard..
So if u like the design of the casing they sell on official site u can buy la.. No worries.
but for me I dont care about the quality la.. i just buy from pasar malam.. *I always change new casing one.*

Actually they disable everything on the website except those that got to do with purchasing Mi3 and PB. LOL
actually login not disabled la. only the network is too crowded with handling purchase request so they prioritize purchase request/ queues over login-in
do you think I could sell my mi3 which I bought just now? I am torn between huawei honor 3c and mi3 just because huawei can have 2 sim so that i could load my hotlink sim into it and have unlimited whatsapp. Mi3 only 1 sim!
Really? I can't read chinese, can someone post picture to show which one is practice one which one is not. I've put the SP but do not know whether its the practise one....

Hi, any XiaoMi Mi3 owners here with lagging phone connection? e.g when you use other phone to call your Mi3, the phone will ring for many times before it is connected to your Mi3 phone...by the time Mi3 rang for 5 times...it is then disconnected...........
Really? I can't read chinese, can someone post picture to show which one is practice one which one is not. I've put the SP but do not know whether its the practise one....
lay 3 SPs on the table, differentiate the SPs labels, you can tell by their chinese characters. Two should have the same labels, one is different.

I have use one. So only 2 left... I guess I'll check later, if both that left have same label, then I have use the practice one, but if one different from another, then I have use the right one. Ok. Thanks.

It's stated on the sticker on the SP in chinese that it is for practice
Since they do not have sales center here, only service center, they might check what is the problem and revert back to you. Unless the QC is that bad they do not even turn on and test the phones before shipping out.
so they have technician to check the phone right?

Congratulations to those who managed to snagged a mi3 @ a discount. Welcome to MIUI!
MIUI already been few years with Android already.. I used MIUI since HTC Hero..
Hi guys, my XiaoMi keyboard crashes when using autocorrect. I'm not sure what is up with it. If I turn off autocorrect, it works fine.
For example, if I type a word while using Whatsapp, the autocorrect suggestion will appear. Then when I touch the word that I want, the keyboard crashes along with the Whatsapp application.

Do you experience that when you call the Mi3 using another phone, the phone will display an incoming call but the ring tone will only emit after a few seconds of delay ?
ya. this is not an issue, this is to protect ur phone/battery
mi3 charge slower when reach 90+% of battery it is to prevent overcharging and protects the battery etc. so.. 99% --> 100% will be much much slower
I see... I though I'm the only one who's facing the problem... Never wait till 100%.. 99% already take out from charger.. I'll wait until 100% next time.. TQ!
