Hi guys..

I've been a user of TIME fiber with Astro IPTV in Mont. Kiara for almost 3 years now...Throughout that time I've been fully satisfied with the service and had no complaints.

I am using an Asus RT-AC68U as my router, and the standard Huawei modem. For almost a couple of weeks now, every little while I have to restart my router, with the logs showing "modem hang". I need to restart the modem and router to get connected to the internet again. There isn't anything I've changed in my setup or anything. I've updated my router firmware and everything but that doesn't seem to have solved the problem.

Any advice as to what could be going on? I can try to hook up the linksys router and see if that's stable but I have a suspicion it's a problem with the modem. How can I go about asking for a replacement? Thank you.
*
Hi Bro,

Not advisable to hook up the Linksys Router (if it's E1200 v2.6), it's gonna complicates you finding the actual problem.

Hook up your Computer Directly to the Huawei Modem to test for a few days to see whether this problem happens.

Thanks.

dear all the TIME 50Mbps user, may I know what's the upload and upload speed r u getting? will it be any slow down during night time 7pm-12am? during 7pm-12am unable/extremely slow to load image on facebook? is it possible to stream 4k video at youtube during 7pm-12am ? how's the performance when loading china website?
currently I'm on unifi 50 with 2 ASUS rt-ac87u in order to get 5G wifi cover every corner of my house house. thinking of switching to time bcoz of the problem above. Please kindly advise
*
Hi Bro,

For TIME Fttx, the download & uplaod speed are actually more or less the same..50Mbps package, if you are connected with cable connection, there is no problem of reaching such speed, with a good router definitely helps for achieving consistent speed for both cabled & wifi connection as well.
Streaming 4K videos no problem as well. For China websites, please kindly send me list of sites that you need to check.

Please kindly check out your PM for more details.

Thanks.

Hi. If I subscribe to Time Home Fibre Broadband and terminate UniFi under contract, how will Time reimburse me the penalty? I need to keep UniFi until Time is installed. What is the procedure?

I subscribed to the 100Mbps package. Can I switch to 50Mbps package within the first 3 months? Will there be a penalty?
*
Hi Bro,

The RM500 Rebate under Easy Switch Promo will be reflected under your TIME bill, contra the monthly package subscription charge until the RM500 is fully deducted.

Yes you can switch over to 50Mbps with 1 Month penalty which is RM179 in your case.

Kindly do refer to my PM for more details.

Thanks.

I found out something funny on the TIME routing to SG server.

1 typical good routing to SG IP address will have the result like below:
traceroute to 128.199.104.168 (128.199.104.168), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets
1  router.asus.com (192.168.1.1)  13.412 ms  13.399 ms  13.388 ms
2  lo-0.ag-01-akhmw.ni.time.net.my (223.28.0.215)  22.022 ms  22.028 ms  22.018 ms
3  xe-5-3-0-0.er-01-majjw.ni.time.net.my (223.28.2.41)  22.015 ms  21.989 ms  21.977 ms
4  xe-5-3-0-0.er-01-glsfb.ni.time.net.my (223.28.2.37)  36.222 ms  36.200 ms  37.845 ms
5  xe-0-1-0-1.cr-02-glsfb.ni.time.net.my (223.28.2.9)  36.118 ms  36.148 ms  36.126 ms

7  103.16.102.73 (103.16.102.73)  21.645 ms  21.213 ms  21.196 ms
8  103.253.144.242 (103.253.144.242)  31.304 ms  31.324 ms  31.316 ms
9  128.199.104.168 (128.199.104.168)  31.316 ms  31.302 ms  31.259 ms

However, I found out there is a boomerang effect on certain SG IP address.
traceroute to 139.162.21.176 (139.162.21.176), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets
1  router.asus.com (192.168.1.1)  16.009 ms  16.024 ms  16.011 ms

The part highlighted in bold red shows the the packet has been routed to US and back to SG for some reasons. Hopefully it is a bad BGP setup.

This phenomenon only happen to TIME. I do not see such problem on TM Streamyx/Unifi nor Digi/Maxis LTE.

Can anyone help to forward this TIME to rectify the problem?
*
Hi Bro,

Thanks for the valuable feedback.

It does happens a few times before, possibly LSP glitch caused by bad LDP or BGP config, will highlight to respective team.

Thanks.

First, I am subscribing to Astro IPTV which piggyback on TIME broadband. I am not sure how to work this thing out.

Secondly, I do not have the password to access to TIME's Huawei ONU as it is locked down and remotely configured by TIME. But it has nothing to do with home use router right?

Hi, I think is splitter down.

Time currently is undergo network  issue (due to splitter down) in certain of Kuala Lumpur area. This is affecting GPON(Fibre to the Home) customers in particular.

Rest assure Time Technical team is pushing hard to get it fixed ASAP.
*
Bro,

This is not splitter problem.

Splitter issue does not affect so many parties at different areas.

Thanks.

Hi Guys,

For those of you which are still unable to Boost, please do the followings :

1) Turn off all your devices.
2) Turn on ONU, after the PON light is ON, turn on your Router. Wait for Internet connection to be established within seconds.
3) Login to your Selfcare Portal & try to Boost again.

If problem persists, please call in to 1800 18 1818 to refresh your line.

Hi there! Can someone recommend a router to replace the Time standard router? I have 15 devices and most of the time streaming using Apple TV or Spotify lags like crazy.

Ps. I'm on Time's 12MB plan (old plan).
*
Hi Bro,

Wow it's really an old old plan....first of all you should migrate to the new plan.

Kindly pm me your budget and we will propose some good tested ones for you.

Thanks.

Hello,

Does time enforce the 100GB limit on the 100Mbps accounts? I will be moving to a condominium in KLCC called Avare and I am not sure if I will be going for 50Mbps or 100Mbps. Any recommendations? Mostly it would be to stream netflix and amazon video + accessing my plex server remotely so upload speed is also important.

Thanks,
*
Hi Bro,

Yes, the 100Mbps package comes with 100GB monthly Quota that means your speed will be throttled to 10Mbps once this quota is met.

If you are going for Netflix 4K / UHD, together with Amazon Video + Plex server, go for 50Mbps.

Do check out your PM for more details.

Thanks.

I'm currently using TP-Link Archer C7 (v2) based on the recommendation by The Wirecutter (link: The Best Wi-Fi Router) and it works well for my use cases, which is quite similar to yours. The price is not too bad for the superior performance gain that you'll get.

It can handle multiple HD videos streaming very well. For example, in our house we're using our iMac as a media server, so I'll use Air Video HD on my iPhone to stream movies from the iMac, which I then Airplay it to the Apple TV. At the same time my sister would stream TV series to her phone and my brother would do the same with his iPad. No hiccup.

(P/S: I'm using old-gen iMac that doesn't support direct Airplay to Apple TV. So the app is a nice workaround and I get to browse the folders on the iMac from my phone.)

I can't verify for other routers but just thought of sharing my experience with you. Cheers.

Hi Bro,

Agreed smile.gif This is one of the Router we have tested on-site.

I'm with Astro IPTV and they refuse to upgrade me without locking me down for another 2 years. As one of the early IPTV subscribers from long ago I find this totally unacceptable and will most likely cancel my subscription soon.
Thanks guys for all the advise. Really good stuff! I've come to the conclusion that the Asus routers are up there but so is the price. I'm cost conscious so I will have to drop Asus. In the running is the D-Link 868L and the TP-Link Archer C7. D-Link looks good and matches the decor of the space (I know I can't believe I'm prioritising decor myself!), so D-Link has an advantage going in.

Both also have been tested by my TIME Installation teams.
