I just sold my preowned Saber Alter Vortigern for USD$230 (RM910) to a buyer overseas rclxm9.gif

The local MIB/BIB market is way too stagnant, and people like to bargain like nuts. I'll put some of my figures I want to let go in the international market instead, especially the rare ones.

Oh? Which website did you sold it through? eBay? MFC?

I too am looking to offload some of my (past-loved) figures, but my interests are pretty niche and with the gap between MYR and USD as it is now, I think the international market is the better choice at this moment.

good price. i guess local collectors gotto watch every ringgit and sen. our ringgit is seriously taking a beating... and i try to buy in yen whenever possible. i think this hobby will die a natural death locally if the ringgit continues to slide. all alphamax releases are already breaching the rm500 mark... and it's only gonna get worse. personally, i've cut down on my purchases considerably and just hope the ones i really like bins. sigh... can someone please donate rm26m into my account?

I sold it via MFC. You can only post a figure thread each week.
After u post the thread, you post the link in the comment of that figure's database as well; people who subscribed to that thread or wishlisted that figure, will get an email that a sale is available.

But, MFC works best for rare figures that are expensive now. Americans, UK ppl, Europeans, they are willing to pay.
If you sell, say, a USD$60-100 figure there, some are reluctant to pay USD$35 for registered air parcel (RM130 for 1st kg to USA). But when you are selling $150 or higher figures and these people can afford it, 35 bucks in shipping is not a big deal to them. So, you need to choose the right figures to sell in MFC.

I'm considering selling my Yoshino, from PLUM. Didn't expect her price to breach USD 200. I'm going overseas in Sep to UK, will be shipping my figures to malaysia (dont want to kena EU VAT tax), so I'll probably see them once a year when I return. But then I don't really need the money, hmmm

Thats why, I never bother with Malaysian buyer's. Especially in this forum.
I sold nearly 50% of my collection with profit just few months ago, to overseas buyer.
All I kept are those "what you call" the holly grail!

well... if you look at the overall picture, figure collecting in malaysia is somewhat of an elitist hobby. our minimum monthly wage is rm900... which roughly translates to approximately usd225. it's usd1,000 in singapore (4.4x), usd1,300 in the us (5.8x), usd1,700 in the uk (7.6x) and approximately us2,500 in australia (11x). so it's a double whammy here in malaysia... and therefore the purchasing power here in malaysia is severely affected by (i) low income; and (ii) high foreign exchange rates. all things being equal, a fresh grad in malaysia earning rm2k only has the relative purchasing power of usd500, i.e. a quarter of the purchasing power of a similar grad earning usd2k. it's a simple calculation but i think you know where i'm coming from. it's hard enough making ends meet here in malaysia to afford a rm500 figurine so yeah, you're better of venturing into the overseas market and at least bring in some foreign earnings in the process.

p.s. a cleaner in sg earns us1k/month... so they do in fact earn more than our fresh grads.

This is kinda off-topic as this would apply to parcels in general, not just limited to figures. But I can't find any dedicated topic for this in Lowyat, and I can do away with the generally sarcastic Kopitiam dwellers.

Say your parcel is seized/discarded by customs. What would the tracking info on the Pos Malaysia website show? Would it stay "Awaiting presentation to customs officer", or would there be any special remark along the lines of "parcel is discarded due to reason X"? Anyone with experience care to share?

Yea, i would like to know about this as well. What the tracking result would be like? (Including being detained by customs due to value - requiring you to pay tax).
Like,
"Consignment has been incinerated because the contents are against the country's laws"? sweat.gif

So far i have only heard of one story of the contents being destroyed. Every other case i heard, involved deporting the package back to Japan. I guess the message would be "deported" or "rejected", or something similar.

I dont like the kopitiam section as well. It's just a contest of who's better at sarcasm, and occasionally quarreling and racism also happens there.

For all figures that may exceed rm500 i will stop ordering from amiami. Expensive stuff i will order from NipponYasan - they do underdeclare for you if requested. If item still stuck in kastam, ask them to produce a fake invoice for you, they will.
